Abstract

The growth of Financial Technology (FinTech) in Indonesia has continued to increase in recent years, along with the development of information technology and the use of the internet. These developments have driven the rapid growth of studies related to Fintech in Indonesia. In this regard, this research intends to conduct a systematic literature review of various studies related to FinTech in Indonesia that were made and published in the last ten years. To achieve this objective, this study utilizes the publish and perish application version 7 to access the Google Scholar database and select it using several keywords that match this research topic. The reviewed studies were selected based on the level of accreditation of the journal where the research articles were published, either by national accreditation (Sinta) or international accreditation (Scopus). Furthermore, they were analyzed and processed using simple descriptive statistical analysis using MS Excel. This research found that over the past ten years, there are 79 journal articles related to Fintech in Indonesia, of which 44 of them are published in journals accredited by Sinta, and the rest 35 were accredited by Scopus. Moreover, most of the reviewed studies only discuss the usage of Fintech in general, especially those related to the use of P2P Lending and mobile payments. Regarding the methodology used in the studies, there are significant differences between journal articles published in the Scopus and Sinta Journals. The Scopus-accredited journal articles are dominated by research using quantitative methods, whereas the Sinta-accredited journal articles tend to use qualitative methods. These results highlight that there is still plenty of room to extend the research topic of fintech studies in Indonesia, such as the security and privacy issues related to fintech adoption.

Abstract

Sanggar Rangkiang is a women’s group in Selayo village with a common interest in improving their family living standards. Through the group, they learn together how to master knitting skills. Using their little own pocket money, they try to buy the knitting material and turn it into various kinds of knitted products. Some have also successfully sold the products to their acquaintances through direct selling or personal approaches. Despite those achievements, however, this group has been facing critical challenges, such as limited product varieties, unstandardized product qualities, and lack of neat consistency, undermining the product’s potential to compete in the larger knitted products market. Due to this condition, the team of Universitas Andalas has provided knitting materials and conducted training series on various knitting techniques and models. The training was conducted through three sections the delivery of learning materials through lecturing, the application of learning materials, and counselling and monitoring through mentoring. After the training, the participants can produce a variety of good-quality products according to the given time target. Ultimately, the knitted products are expected to be sold in the larger market, paving the way for their business independence.

Abstract

Over the last decade, the popularity of "buy now, pay later" (BNPL) in Indonesia has been increasing due to the various attractive offers available to consumers. However, the unwise use of BNPL may cause impulsive buying behavior, leading to excessive consumptions and waste productions that ultimately negatively affect the environment. Therefore, it is important to understand factors influencing the use of BNPL and impulsive buying behavior in order to help the BNPL users to use it more responsibly, ultimately control their consumption and reduce unnecessary wastes. This study explores the influence of BNPL users' digital financial literacy, self-control, and perceived risk on their impulsive buying behaviors. This study surveys BNPL users in Indonesia through various online channels. Using PLS Smart 3.0 on the survey data of 185 respondents of BNPL users, this study found that digital financial literacy and self-control influenced the impulsive buying behavior of BNPL users. However, the results also show that self-control has a greater influence than digital financial literacy on the impulsive buying behavior of BNPL users. In contrast, risk perception showed the opposite result. Hence, a policy strategy involving self-control and DFL in minimizing impulsive buying should be implemented to avoid overconsumption and waste crises.

Abstract

This research focuses on the influence of formal finance access and digital financial services on household consumption in Indonesia. Researchers use secondary data by digging into information obtained from Susenas 2019 and using The Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method. The research results show that the development of Access to formal finance and digital financial services is increasingly developing, which will increase household consumption in Indonesia. The results of this study are based on previous studies. The results imply that digital financial inclusion can increase household consumption expenditure in Indonesia. It is important for policymakers to find the right mechanism to improve the financial well-being of Indonesia's economically vulnerable population. Promoting the comprehensive and balanced development of financial institutions is an important step to stimulate household consumption. Therefore, financial institutions need to embrace digital finance as a great opportunity and expand their market by providing easier access to financial services for low- and middle-income households so that people can reap the desired benefit.
