Abstract

This research aims to improve the reading and viewing skills of grade 2 students at SDN 1 Limboto Barat on material about recognizing the alphabet. The problem identified was the low reading and viewing ability of students, where around 12 students had not reached the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM). To overcome this problem, this research applies display media as a learning aid. The method used in this research is Classroom Action Research (PTK) which involves four main stages: observation, planning, action, and reflection. At the observation stage, researchers identify students' problems and needs. The planning stage involves preparing learning strategies using display media. The action stage involves implementing the plans that have been prepared, while the reflection stage is used to evaluate the effectiveness of the actions taken. Data is collected through observation and tests. The results showed significant improvements in students' reading and viewing abilities. Before the action, only 44.44% of students reached the KKM. However, after using display media, the percentage of students who achieved the KKM increased to 84.71%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the use of display media is effective in improving the reading and viewing abilities of grade 2 students at SDN 1 Limboto Barat. This research makes a positive contribution to efforts to improve the quality of learning, especially in material about recognizing the alphabet, and can be used as a reference for teachers in implementing innovative learning strategies.

Abstract

In the context of educational reform in Indonesia, the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum has brought significant changes over the past few decades. A crucial aspect of this transformation is the curriculum for students, aimed at equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to become productive members of society. Launched by the Ministry of Education in 2020, the Merdeka Curriculum emphasizes a more holistic and inclusive educational approach, focusing on student-centered learning and technology use. This study aims to analyze the alignment of the textbook "Bright An English" with the Merdeka Curriculum for second-grade junior high school students, identifying its strengths and weaknesses in supporting English language learning. A qualitative approach was employed, specifically through document analysis. This method is often used to analyze written or visual data to identify specific characteristics or materials, focusing on the English textbook "Bright An English". The analysis revealed that the textbook generally meets the English language competencies outlined in the Merdeka Curriculum. Students are able to engage with various types of texts and develop their language skills effectively. However, areas such as the integration of character values and cultural diversity in the teaching materials require improvement. The findings indicate that "Bright An English" is largely aligned with the Merdeka Curriculum, fulfilling many essential requirements. Despite some shortcomings, the textbook remains a valuable resource for teachers and students, and supplementary materials are recommended to enhance the learning experience. Overall, it provides a solid foundation for English language education at the junior high school level.

Abstract

Computer-assisted language Learning (CALL) is a learning method that uses computers as auxiliary media to facilitate language learning. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the development of research in Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) in the last five years based on the Scopus database. This quantitative study uses bibliometric analysis with the search keyword Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL). The results of this study highlight a significant increase in the number of articles about Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) indexed by Scopus every year, starting from 142 articles in 2018 and 2023, which increased to 251. The type of publication is dominated by journal articles, followed by conference papers and reviews, and the rest in the form of books or book chapters. The largest source of publications comes from Lecture Notes in Computer Science (including the subseries Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence and Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics) with 29 publications. Our comprehensive analysis reveals a significant downward trend in citations from 2018 to 2023. Furthermore, based on the visualization using VOSviewer shows the use of AI technology in language teaching and the impact of digital media on language learning. The results of this study show that it is essential to continue to review and evaluate the factors influencing the dissemination and acceptance of CALL research. Moreover, it is crucial to reinforce the continuity between technological innovation and practical practice in various areas of life, thereby highlighting the real-world impact of CALL research.
