Abstract

Numerous studies have been conducted on Google Forms; however, there has yet to be research that explores the relationship between the impact of Google Forms and the development of tense proficiency among university students when learning the English language. The purpose of this research is to determine whether there is an impact on students' improvement of their mastery of tenses in English when given practice tests in the form of Google Forms. This research utilized an experimental quantitative method to observe the impact of practice tests in Google Forms after a pre-test and before a post-test. The study employed 35 undergraduate students majoring in Management at Immanuel Christian University. Initial data from the pre-test was collected before the exercises in Google Forms were given, and final data from the post-test was collected after the exercises in Google Forms were administered. These data were then tested for normality. Since the data did not have a normal distribution, they were tested using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Additionally, the data were analyzed using the N-Gain score test. Based on the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test with a probability value less than 0.05, the effect of providing exercises in Google Forms on improving understanding tenses in English was seen. Furthermore, the N-Gain test results showed high scores and effective percentages, proving that the practice test method in Google Forms effectively enhances non-English major students' understanding of tenses in English.   Consequently, English language instructors can implement the method of practice tests on Google Forms in their teaching. For future research, it can be investigated whether there is a significant difference in English tense mastery between students who receive practice tests on Google Forms and those who do not.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of implementing Lecture-Based Learning and Inquiry-Based Learning methods on the Writing and Reading scores of the TOEFL-IBT. The research adopts a quantitative approach and employs an associative research design. A sample of 40 participants was selected using purposive sampling from the population of students at Universitas Kristen Immanuel, subsequently divided into two classes that utilized different teaching methods. Data, consisting of Writing and Reading scores, were collected through TOEFL-IBT test results from the two classes, each employing a distinct learning method. The data were then analyzed using both multivariate and univariate MANOVA tests. The findings indicate a significant difference in Writing and Reading scores between the two classes that applied Lecture-Based Learning and Inquiry-Based Learning methods. While the applied methods had a simultaneous effect on Writing and Reading scores, the distinct methods exhibited a more pronounced influence on Writing scores compared to Reading scores in the TOEFL-IBT assessment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the English language proficiency of students in Management and Accounting programs using the Linguaskill Business test and the CEFR standards. The research sample consists of 10 undergraduate students from the Management program and 10 students from the Diploma program in Management. Data, represented by test scores, were collected through the Linguaskill Business assessment. Subsequently, the data were statistically analyzed to determine the minimum, maximum, mean scores, and frequency distribution. This data was then converted into a CEFR standard table for further analysis of English language proficiency according to CEFR criteria. The findings indicate that the majority of Management and Accounting students possess basic English language skills, primarily at or below the A1 level. Some students demonstrated relatively good proficiency at the A1, A2, and a maximum of B1 levels. Therefore, it is essential to enhance the English language skills of these students, as they have not yet reached the higher levels of B2 and C1.

Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode komparatif. Populasi terdiri dari 11 perusahaan farmasi yang terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI), namun setelah dilakukan purposive sampling, 9 perusahaan yang memenuhi kriteria dan terpilih sebagai sampel. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan tradingview.com untuk menganalisis pergerakan harga saham, dengan bantuan Microsoft Excel. Abstract

The objective of this research is to compare the mastery of English tenses between students majoring in Computer Science and those in Management. This study employs a quantitative methodology with a comparative approach. Utilizing purposive sampling, 20 students from each major were selected to receive instruction on nine English tenses using a uniform teaching method, followed by a comprehension test on the same tenses. The data, derived from test results, were statistically analyzed based on score ranges categorized by frequency, percentage, highest score, lowest score, and average score. The statistical outcomes from both majors were then compared to identify similarities and differences. The findings indicate that Computer Science students demonstrated greater proficiency in the Simple Present, Simple Future, Present Continuous, Present Perfect, and Past Perfect tenses, while Management students excelled in the Simple Future, Present Continuous, Past Continuous, Present Perfect, and Future Perfect tenses. According to the average test scores, Management students outperformed their Computer Science counterparts in nearly all tenses, with the exception of the Past Perfect tense. The difference in tense proficiency between Computer Science students and Management students can primarily be attributed to the nature of their academic training and the skills emphasized in their respective disciplines This research can serve as a foundational reference for English language instructors at the higher education level, applicable to both scientific and non-scientific study programs. By understanding the characteristics and proficiency levels of tense usage across different disciplines, English teachers can adapt their teaching methods accordingly to achieve optimal outcomes.
