Abstract

This research was a qualitative descriptive. The formulations this research problem were (1) how is the form  of the euphemism in Mata Najwa talk show on Trans 7, and (2) what euphemism references in Mata Najwa talk show on Trans 7. The data were collected through referring method, tapping and taking note techniques. Data analysis of this research was conducted in three stages, namely: data reduction, data presentation and verification or conclusion. The results of this research are 6 forms of the euphemism in Mata Najwa talk show on Trans 7, namely: a) the form of absorption word: disability, b) foreign language forms: human trafficking, c) word forms: apolitical, d) abbreviated form: DS, e) a form of metaphor: the bottom board, and f) the form of periphrasis:having deficiencies. In addition there are also 6 references to euphemisms in the Mata Najwa talk show on Trans 7, they are: a) reference of character or condition: intolerant, b) reference of object: HIM, c) reference of professional: alya, d) reference of activity: amputation, e) reference of body parts: breasts, and f) reference of events: died.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the use of form anda function of cohesion device in Mercusuar Daily editorial discourse including device of grammatical and lexical cohesion. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The data collection were done in two ways, namely, (1) refer technique and (2) record technique. Data analysis procedures used trough three stages: (1) data reduction, (2) presentation of data, and (3) conclusion / verivication. Based on the research result, there was the use of devices of grammatical and lexical cohesion in Mercusuar daily editorial discourse of may 2016 edition. Devices used in the grammatical cohesion of discourse include, (1) grammatical  forms of cohesion devices, including : (a) molding (reference), (b) ellipsis (deletion), (c) subtitution, and (d) a conjungtion. Lexical cohesion devices include (a) reps (repetition) that replicated that same right (intact), repeat with replacement, replicated the shape change, repeat with synonym, repeat with hyponym, and (b) collocation. 2) Cohesion devices function as follows : (a) the reference refer to a participant who had been mentioned first in discourse, (b) subtitution serves to replace the spesific language elements with other elements that are interchangeable, (c) ellipsis (deletion). There are some functions that use ellipsis, namely: (1) the effectiveness of the sentence, (2) language efficiency usage, (3) cohesion discourse, (4) to activate the mind of reader or listener  to language which didn’t explicitly disclosed, (5) practicality language, and (d) conjungtion. Conjungtions functions are, (1) the relationship of resistance, (2) stating causality, (3) the relationship extra, (4)the relationship comparison and (5) express a temporal  relationship. The used of lexical cohesion in the form of repetition. Repetition serves to defend the idea of topic being discussed.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability to make speeches of grade 6 students Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Alkhairaat Kotarindau. This study is a classroom action research consisting of two cycles, each cycle is held twice in class and each cycle consists of four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Collecting techniques in this study are the provision of preliminary tests and final tests of action, observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. Individual mastery indicator 65% and classical completeness 80%. The assessment component of speech, ie, pronunciation, intonation and expression in speech. The result of the cycle I average completeness of individuals reached 61.29 %% and classical completeness reached 65.05%. The results of the assessment cycle II has a significant increase of the average completeness of individuals reached 80.64% and classical completeness reached 90.32%. Thus it can be concluded that learning by using modeling method can improve students' ability to give speech in grade VI Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Alkhairaat Kotarindau.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the use of expressive speech act covering (1) form, (2) function, and (3) strategy in instructional in grade VIII of SMP Negeri 19 Palu. Data source were obtained from teacher and students utterances during the learning process. The approach used the research was pragmatic approach. Method used was descriptive qualitative. Data collections were done in three techniques, namely: (1) recording, (2) observation, and (3) noting. The subjects of the research were teachers and students at SMP Negeri 19 Palu. Technique of analysis was interactive model. The analysis covered four stages, they were: (1) data collection, (2) data reduction, (3) data display, (4) verification/conclusion. The research findings reveal that instructional conducted in SMP Negeri 19 Palu consist of (1) gratitude form, (2) apologize form, (3) thanking form, (4) compliment form, (5) mocking form, (6) blame form, (7) complain form, (8) refuse form, (9) enjoyment form. The function of expressive speech act found in the findings comprised (1) gratitude function, (2) apologize function, (3) thanking function, (4) greeting function. Strategy used in the expressive speech act consists of (1) direct strategy of gratitude, (2) direct strategy of apologize, (3) direct strategy of thanking, (4) direct strategy of compliment, (5) direct strategy of mocking, (6) direct strategy of blame, (7) direct strategy of complain, (8) direct strategy of refuse, (9) direct strategy of enjoyment. Meanwhile the indirect strategy consists of (1) indirect strategy of apologize, (2) indirect strategy of mocking, (3) indirect strategy of complain with variation functions referred to behind the speech act depend on its context.

Abstract

This research intends to 1) describe representation form of power in directive speaking action on Indonesia Lawyer Club Talk Show TV One, 2) describe representation function of power in directive speaking action on Indonesia Lawyer Club Talk Show TV One. Method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Data of this research was directive speaking action of moderator and interviewees on Indonesia Lawyer Club which include representation of power. Data were collected through open securitize speaking involvement with basic technique of take a note. Data were analyzed through several stages such as: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The result of this research reveals 1) speech of moderator and on Indonesia Lawyer Club Talk Show TV One shows the existence of representation of power in directive speaking action in form of giving order, forbidding, giving advice, questions, inviting, requesting, and stating, 2) speech of moderator and on Indonesia Lawyer Club Talk Show TV One shows the existence of representation of function power in directive speaking action in form of giving order, forbidding, giving advice, questions, inviting, requesting, and stating. Power used by the moderator and speaker are legitimate power, coercive power, reward power, and expert power.

Abstract

Psikologi Sastra adalah analisis teks dengan mempertimbangkan relevansi dan peranan studi psikologis. Hal itu terungkap dari penelitian terhadap permasalahan: (1) Bagaimanakah Konflik Batin Tokoh dalam cerpen Salawat Dedaunan karya Yanusa Nugroho ? (2) Unsur-unsur apa saja yang membangun cerpen Salawat Dedaunan karya Yanusa Nugroho?. Penelitian ini bertujuan (1) Mendeskripsikan Konflik Batin Tokoh dalam cerpen Salawat Dedaunan karya Yanusa Nugroho. (2) Mendeskripsikan unsur-unsur yang membangun cerpen Salawat Dedaunan karya Yanusa Nugroho. Metode pengumpulan data menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan teknik simak catat. Teknik analisis data menggunakan model analisis mengalir, yang meliputi tiga komponen, yaitu 1) reduksi data; 2) penyajian data; dan 3) penarikan simpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa memiliki nilai-nilai didaktis yang bermanfaat bagi pembacanya. Nilai didaktis yang terdapat dalam cerpen ini adalaah pentingnya kita berikhtiar untuk memakmurkan mesjid, diantaranya dengan sholat berjamaah di Mesjid, merawat kebersihan, dan membangun pengembangan sarana Mesjid untuk kepentingan Agama.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the value contained in the poem of Sayed Idrus bin Salim Aljufri and the implication of poem value of Sayed Idrus bin Salim Aljufri on character education. Type of research is qualitative research. The data used were qualitative from poem of Sayed Idrus bin Salim Aljufri. Technique of collecting data there are three that is, documentation, recording and interview. Data analysis techniques are descriptively inductive. The research results show that there were 11 values contained in the verse of Sayed Idrus bin Salim Aljufri namely the values of education, social, religious, philosophy, historical, psychological, economic, moral, legal, cultural, and struggle. The implications of poetry value in character education, among others, the value of education implies with self that includes motivation to study, love science, logical thinking, critical, creative and innovative. Social values have implications for self and sesame in the form of hard work, good manners and good speech. Religious values imply on the relationship with God Almighty in the form of thoughts, words and actions pursued based on the value of the Deity / religious teachings. The value of philosophy implies self-love of knowledge. Historical value implies the fellow and the environment that is appreciating the work and achievements of others; attitudes and role models prevent damage to the natural environment surrounding. The value of psychology has implications for itself in the form of responsible attitudes. The economic value implies itself as an entrepreneurial spirit. The moral values implicated in them are honest and polite. The value of the law has implications for the relationship with God Almighty and to others who obey the social rules. The culture value has the own implications in the form of hard work, courteous and appreciate the work of others. The value of struggle has implications of national and nationalist values.

Abstract

This research aims to: (1) improve writing simple scientific report ability through modeling strategy for the students of class VIII A at SMP Negeri 20 Palu Central Sulawesi and (2) describe the improvement of writing simple scientific report ability based on modeling strategy. This research was a classroom action research conducted in two cycles. The subjects of this research were 20 students of class VIII A at SMP Negeri 20 Palu. Procedures for implementing a classroom action research: (1) action planning, (2) action implementation, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. Based on the results of the research on improving writing simple scientific report ability through modeling strategy, it is concluded that there is a significant improvement. The result of the research on pre-action is 58 with the percentage of 18% classical learning achievement. Next, an action is implemented in cycle I with the average score is 71.5 with 50% classical learning achievement percentage. Then proceed to cycle II with the average value of 84.42 and the percentage of 92.85. Based on the result, it can be concluded that using modeling strategy can improve the ability of students in class VIII A at SMP Negeri 20 Palu in writing simple scientific report. Improving students' ability to write simple scientific reports through modeling strategy deserves to be considered as a classroom action material for teachers and subsequent researchers. The final result of this research shows that the application of modeling strategy in learning to write simple scientific report can improve students’ competence. Aspects assessed include; systematic of writing, grammar, effective sentences and neatness of writing.
