Abstract

Raden Aria Wangsakara's house is an architectural heritage object in Kampung Lengkong Kyai in Tangerang. He is a scholar from Sumedang and a prince from the Cirebon Sultanate, who has an important relationship with the history of Banten and Jayakarta in general, and Tangerang and Tigaraksa in particular. At a glance, his house is similar to Betawi houses or like traditional houses on the north coast of Sunda-Banten, which are multicultural in general. What are the characteristics of this house? This study intends to analyze the architectural characteristics of this house using a qualitative approach in the form of a case study. This analysis was carried out to analyze and verify the type of space, type of form, and type of building style. The results of this study indicate the type of space and the type of form that still follows the Sundanese house but is modified in the context of the local physical environment which is close to the Cisadane River and the context of a multicultural environment. The style type of the house borrowed and received some elements of Indo-Islamic, Arabic, and European Colonial styles.

Abstract

Alam Sutera is planned with a one-stop living and green city approach, which is good, safe, comfortable, and healthy. This approach tries to differentiate it from the surrounding and other formal areas. This study tries to examine and identify the characteristics of the Alam Sutera area by analyzing these characteristics using urban theories. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study approach to produce data, which will then be used in developing hypotheses. The research results show that the planning for Alam Sutera has good and complete urban elements, but the local context issues (environment and culture) have not been properly considered. Alam Sutera is the same as the surrounding formal areas except in terms of greening, but it does not yet have a distinct and different local identity.

Abstract

The history of Indonesian traditional architecture has not yet addressed the history of architecture itself; instead, it has only addressed national and regional universal history as a backdrop or ancestry. Furthermore, the sources mainly relied on Western paradigm-adhering written documents and literature rather than empirical sources from a specific cultural community, particularly oral traditions. As a result, the significance of historical context for the evolution of Indonesian architecture has diminished somewhat. Indeed, anthropology, archaeology, and history have long used ethnohistory as a research methodology. Furthermore, traditional architecture has been mentioned in these studies. How does one go about researching the history of traditional architecture using ethnohistory? The objectives of this research are to identify research trends on this topic as well as to discover novelty as a new direction for future studies. This study employs a systematic literature review (SLR) method to descriptively analyze a big dataset and examine the content of primary data selected from publications between 2013 and 2023. It indicates how very promising the research trend is for architecture science. Furthermore, this study develops three research focuses, approaches, implications and constraints in light of the data gathered and examined.

Abstract

The water crisis is affecting the entire world, including Indonesia. Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara regions are vulnerable to such disasters. Low-income and traditional communities will be the first to feel the effects. Low-tech dew and fog harvesting buildings have been built in several parts of the world as alternative methods to address water scarcity. This technology necessitates the collaboration of multidisciplinary researchers and practitioners, particularly in architectural science, in the design development of this building. These building design requirements must be tailored to local Indonesian conditions. This study will examine the building opportunities that use this technology in the local Indonesian context, focusing on the potential for the adoption and modification of traditional buildings. This research method employs a narrative literature review of official document data and scientific studies. The study's findings indicate that traditional buildings in Indonesia have a high potential for the use of this technology.

Abstract

The study of Nusantara Architecture has been a subject of debate since it was first introduced. To this day, the concept continues to spark controversy, particularly among many academic audiences who view it as a representation of old local architecture rather than a body of design knowledge. This research aims to examine the definition and position of Nusantara Architecture further and explore the perceptions of academic audiences regarding the concept based on existing literature. By conducting a systematic literature review, this study builds upon previous research that analyzed trends in Nusantara Architecture studies and provides deeper insight into how this architecture is perceived and defined in academic discourse. The findings indicate that the definition of Nusantara Architecture lies in the formal aspects of traditional architecture, specifically in its design knowledge. In relation to Western architecture, it distinguishes itself from both traditional and vernacular architecture. However, it cannot fully detach from the knowledge of these two forms, which contribute to its development. The majority of academic audiences perceive its definition and position differently, focusing more on its material aspects. Keywords: nusantara architecture; traditional architecture; vernacular architecture; systematic literature review AbstrakPenelitian mengenai Arsitektur Nusantara telah menjadi topik perdebatan sejak awal diperkenalkan.

Abstract

Program Studi Arsitektur Universitas Matana mencoba mengintegrasi ketiga tridharma dengan menerapkan metode Research Based Teaching and Learning (RBTL) dan Service Learning (SL).
