Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of Hohenheim Aceh type solar tunnel dryer with the application of proportional integral derivative (PID) controller for outlet fans. The instrumentations used were solar tunnel dryer type Hohenheim Aceh, HTC-meter, anemometer, pyranometer, and other supporting equipments. The results showed that during the drying process solar irradiation had fluctuated, where the average solar irradiation was 649 W/m2. The average temperature in the drying chamber is 40.6°C while the average temperature in the environment is 32.9°C. Conditions in the drying chamber were suitable for drying because the temperature inside the dryer was relatively higher than the ambient temperature. The average relative humidity (RH) in the drying chamber was 36% and the average RH in the environment was about 40%. The relationship between temperature and RH value was negative and strong indicated bu r-value of 0.7379. On the other hand, the relationship between solar irradiation and temperature was positive and also strong indicating that the energy source for this dryer was from solar irradiation with an R-square of 86.02% and r-value of 0.92747. The application of PID controller had improved the performance of Hohenheim Aceh type solar tunnel dryer by preventing the incident of unproper drying temperature. However, the airflow in the drying chamber was too low thus the further engineering design is needed to improve the drying system.

Abstract

The study aimed to evaluate the influence of blanching methods to the quality of oyster mushroom flour. The treatments were non-blanching, hot water blanching and steam blanching at 3 replications. The amount of mushroom used for each treatment was about 500g. The mushroom was cut into cube shape sizing approximately 1cm. The drying process was conducted by using solar tunnel dryer type Hohenheim Aceh. The temperature and relative humidity were recorded by using proportional integral derivative (PID) controller connected to the outlet fans. The moisture was analyzed by using a moisture analyzer XY105MW, while color was examined by using a colorimeter LS171. The protein content of mushroom flour was determined by Kjeldahl method, and the ash content was identified by dry ashing method at temperature of 400-550C. Data were analyzed by using analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results showed that the blanching method could cut the drying time approximately for 3h. The ANOVA had shown a significant influence of blanching methods to the moisture, yield, ash content and whitness index (WI). However, there is no significant influence of treatments to the protein content. This study suggests the hot water blanching in processing the oyster mushroom flour because it produced the best performance of oyster mushroom flour i.e moisture of 5.78%, yield of 6.26%, protein content of 19.32%, ash content of 4.99% and whitness index of 63.88. Further study is necessary to determine the best combination of temperature and drying time in order to increase the yield.

Abstract

This community service aimed to educate the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) about management of production technologies in obtaining halal certification. The partners of this program were UKM Meugah Pliek and UKM Wina Mandiri as pliek-u and asam sunti processors in Aceh Besar Regency. The production steps of the products that need technology are drying and pressing process. This program had been conducted through survey, preparation, and education. Results of this program were 2 hours training on production technology management to support halal products, 1 unit Hohenheim Aceh solar tunnel dryer, 1 unit hydraulic press, 4 units digital balance at capacity of 40kg and 1000pc of thin wall plastic containers. The technologies adapted were believed to support the production process in order to warrant the halal products. The results of the program were also published on online media to transfer knowledge and motivation to wider community. The participants showed high enthusiasm to the program as it can increase not only their knowledge but also provide technologies and tools to be used in supporting halal production.

Abstract

The purpose of this community service activity is to adapt the Hohenheim Aceh tunnel dryer technology for solar energy, to help Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) produce Pliek U in Aceh Besar District to increase productivity and quality of Pliek U produced. This community service was conducted in several steps including a survey, focus group discussion with targeted people, designing the dryer, constructing the dryer, training the producers, and dissemination. Results of this program are constructing 3 unit type Hohenheim Aceh solar tunnel dryers for 3 producers, management entrepreneurship training, improvement of packaging and application of digital management, and marketing of the product by using the Qasirs application. In conclusion, the performance of this dryer is very good, namely, it can speed up the drying process while increasing the quality of the Pliek U produced.

Abstract

Salah satu hasil pengolahan pliek-u di Usaha Kecil Menengah (UKM) Meugah Pliek adalah minyak pliek. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat berbasis produk teknologi tepat guna (PKMBP-TTG) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesehatan keluarga dan perekonomian UKM Meugah Pliek dengan inovasi sabun padat transparan berbahan dasar minyak pliek. Kegiatan telah dilaksanakan dengan metode focus grup discussion (FGD), transfer ilmu pengetahuan melalui sekolah lapangan, penyediaan fasilitas produksi sabun dan pendampingan. Partisipasi aktif UKM Meugah Pliek diwujudkan dengan koordinasi dan penugasan produksi sabun. Partisipasi aktif mahasiswa terlibat diwujudkan dengan memberikan konstribusi pada desain label produk dan pemasaran. Sabun pliek Aceh (SPA) yang dihasilkan layak dipakai dengan kandungan air 23-25% dan pH 10. Rendemen sabun SPA yang diperoleh adalah 700%. Hasil kegiatan adalah transfer ilmu pengetahuan dan keahlian tentang cara membuat sabun kepada UKM Meugah Pliek. Sabun ini dapat dimanfaatkan untuk kesehatan keluarga maupun dijual ke masyarakat untuk meningkatkan perekonomian. Perlu penelitian lebih lanjut untuk menguji aktivitas anti mikroba dari sabun SPA dan perlu upaya lanjutan untuk proses hilirisasi massal sabun SPA dengan upaya memeroleh izin edar Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan (BPOM).

Abstract

The business of processing simplicia and dried spices has challenged prospects to be developed in Aceh. Simplicia can be used as herbal medicine while dried spices are always needed in various daily cooking recipes by the community. This community service aimed to build a business for a group of young women in Ajee Cut Village, Ingin Jaya District, Aceh Besar Regency, named UKM Adee Thoe Ajee (UKM ATA) for producing simplicia and dried spices with the application of solar tunnel dryer type Hohenheim Aceh. The methods applied were focus group discussion, preparation, field school, dissemination, and ongoing assistance. The outcomes of the program were 1 unit of Hohenheim Aceh tunnel dryer, 1 unit of Android thermal printer, 1 unit of grinder at capacity of 500g, 1 package of production facilities, and raw materials for production. About 2 trainings were conducted including digital business management training, and production management training with the application of technology which were held in form of field school and dissemination. Those activities have also been published on YouTube channel of university (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGmw-XMhjII&t=51) as well as through daily newspaper Serambi Indonesia in both offline and online version on 23 December, 2024 (https://aceh.tribunnews.com/2024/12/23/usk-bantu-ukm-ata-mesin-pengeringan). The products produced by UKM ATA were simplicia, and various powders of ginger, curcuma and red chili. Mentoring is carried out during the program and evaluation is carried out through the Qasir application. It is expected that by adapting production technology UKM ATA could produce at good quality as well as meet halal requirement.
