Abstract

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate minerals and nutrient composition of young coconut husk silage fermented with rice bran at different concentrations. The study was conducted for seven months in the Laboratory of Feed Technology of State Agricultural Polytechnic of Kupang. A completely randomised design was employed with four treatments and five replicates. The treatments were young coconut husk without rice bran (P0) or the husk plus 4% (P1), 8% (P2) or 12% (P3) of rice bran out of the silage total weight. Variables measured were dry matter, ash, crude protein, crude lipid, crude fibre, Calcium, Potassium and Phosphorus. Analysis of variance showed that rice bran significantly (P<0.01) affects all variables measured. The Duncan’s range multiple test showed that 12% and 4% were the best rice bran concentrations to increase nutrient content and minerals of the silage, respectively. It can be concluded that adding 12% of rice bran to young coconut husk silage increased dry matter, ash, crude protein and crude lipid but reduced Calcium and Potassium. Crude fibre and Phosphorus increased at the inclusion of 8% rice bran. Key words: Nutrient; Minerals; Rice bran; Silage; Young coconut husk. Abstract

Tamarind seeds have a high energy content but have limited use for pigs because the seed coat is tough and contains anti-nutrient tannins. Therefore, liquid feed fermentation technology is carried out. The aim of this research was to assess the gross energy, digestible energy, and metabolic energy content of liquid feed fermentation (Lff) with different fermentation times in growing pigs. The research materials were whole tamarind seeds, bran, corn, meat and bone meal, and soybean meal. The study used a completely randomized design and consisted of 5 treatments and 5 replications. Treatment = Lf0: Lff time 0 days; Lf1: Lff for 7 days, Lf2: Lff for 14 days, Lf3: Lff for 21days, Lf4: Lff for 28 days fermentation. The research variables were the energy content of the ration and the prediction of digestible energy and metabolic energy value. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance and Duncan's advanced test. The results showed that the Lff with different fermentation time had a significant effect (P <0,05) on gross energy, digestible energy, and metabolic energy value. The best value of energy is Lff for 21 days. It was concluded that the time for fermentation of liquid feed made from tamarind seeds which can produce good energy content, digestibility, and metabolic energy is 21 days.

Abstract

One of the conventional feed ingredients commonly used as pig feed to reduce ration prices is tamarind seeds. However, tamarind seeds have a hard seed coat texture, therefore liquid feed is fermented by formulating it with other feed ingredients, in order to know whether the liquid feed has economic value or not. The purpose of this research is to examine the price of liquid feed containing different percentages of tamarind seeds and estimate their economic value in the form of total consumption costs and feed cost per gain. The research was using yellow corn, rice bran, soybean meal, meat and bone meal, whole tamarind seeds, and aquades. Liquid feed is formulated according to the needs of the grower phase of pigs. The research treatments were R0: Fermented liquid feed (FLF) containing 0% tamarind seeds, R10: FLF containing 10% tamarind seeds, R20: FLF containing 20% tamarind seeds, and R30: FLF containing 30% tamarind seeds. The variables studied were the price of liquid feed (Rp/kg), total consumption cost (Rp/kg/e), and feed cost per gain (Rp). The data were analyzed descriptively according to the research variables. The results showed that the price of liquid feed, the total cost of consumption, and the cost of the R30 treatment feed were Rp. 6868/kg, Rp. 12,579,711/kg/e, and Rp. 18,177 lower or more economical than treatment R0, R10, and R20. It was concluded that the presentation of the use of tamarind seeds in liquid feed at a level of 30% was more profitable.

Abstract

A study with the aim of assessing the economic value of fermented liquid pig feed in various levels of tamarind seeds and different protein sources has been carried out from July-August 2022. Liquid feed is formulated according to the needs of the grower phase of pigs. The treatments, Feed A : soybean meal (SM) and Whole tamarind seed (WTS) 0, 10, 20, 30%; Feed B: Meat and bone meal (MBM) and WTS 0, 10, 20, 30%; Feed C: SM and MBM and WTS 0.10,20,30%; Feed D: Fish meal and WTS 0, 10, 20, 30%. The research variables were the price of feed per kg and the total feed costs incurred in rearing grower pigs from weaning until 5 months of rearing reached a slaughter weight of 80 kg. This research is a qualitative research based on the results of the calculation of 4 feed formulations. Data analysis was descriptively by calculating the difference and the percentage of feed costs incurred. The results showed that the decrease in the price of feed per kg and the total cost of feed incurred to reach the slaughter weight of pigs was caused by the use of tamarind seeds which increased up to 30% as well as the price, quality, and type of protein source feed ingredients are used. The conclusion is the use of tamarind seeds in feed with different levels and different protein sources can reduce the price of feed per kg and the cost of feed required to reach slaughter weight.

Abstract

Pig livestock feed generally competes with human needs; therefore, alternative feed is needed in the form of tamarind seeds, which contain nutrients but are also antinutrients. The technology required was to use fermented liquid feed. This study aimed to examine the effects of tamarind seeds on the nutrient digestibility growth performance of pigs. The study used a randomized blocked design (RBD) with 4 treatments and replications. In the present study, R0 = fermented liquid feed (FLF) without tamarind seeds (TS), R10 = FLF with 10% TS, R20 = FLF with 20% TS, and R30 = FLF with 30% TS. The analyzed data were subjected to analysis of variance and Duncan's test. The research variables were nutrient consumption and nutrient digestive rations. The results showed that increasing the percentage of TS in FLF had no significant effect (P>0.05) on nutrient consumption or crude fat digestibility in Landrace crossed pigs but had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on the digestibility of dry matter, crude protein, nitrogen-free extracts, crude fat, crude fiber, and ash. The conclusion is that tamarind seeds could be used in fermented liquid feed up to 30%, but it is better to use 20% to increase the nutrient digestibility of pigs. Further research regarding its use to determine the performance of carcass production is recommended
