Abstract

Background: Indonesia is a country with the world’s biggest potential and producer of sea cucumbers. Golden sea cucumber contains glicosaminoglycans, such as heparan sulphate and chondroitin sulphate, which could have a positive implication on wound healing process. This acceleration of wound healing process could be observed through the increasing of lymphocytes on ulcus traumaticus. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the effects of golden sea cucumber extract on the number of lymphocytes during the healing process of traumatic ulcer on Wistar rat’s oral mucous. Method: Golden sea cucumber extrat was made with freeze-dried method, and then gel was prepared using PEG 400 and PEG 4000 solvent. Twenty male rats with mucosal ulcus made were divided into a control group and three treatment groups with 20%, 40% and 80% golden sea cucumber extracts. All samples were euthanized on day 4 and then a preparation for histopathological examination was made to examine the number of lymphocytes. Result: The biggest number of lymphocytes was found in the treatment group with 40% golden sea cucumber extract, while the lowest one was found in the control group. The results of one way Anova test then showed a significant difference between the control group and the treatment groups. And, the results of Tukey HSD showed a significant difference between the control group and the treatment group with 40% golden sea cucumber extract. Conclusion: It can be concluded that 40% golden sea cucumber (Stichopus hermanii) extract can increase the number of lymphocytes during the healing process of traumatic ulcer on Wistar rat’s oral mucous.

Abstract

The coffee husk waste has not been utilized optimally by farmers. Coffee skin waste, which has been considered as a leftover material from the production of ground coffee, turns out to have many benefits and uses in life. Based on the results of research by experts, coffee husk waste is useful in agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries, namely as compost, protein nutrition and additional fiber in animal feed. This solid waste of coffee rind has high levels of organic matter and nutrients that can improve soil structure. One of the efforts that can be done to handle the increasing amount of coffee husk waste is by processing coffee skin waste into compost. The by-products in the form of coffee skins range from 50-60 percent of the harvest. If the yield is 1000 kg of fresh coffee, then about 400-500 kg of coffee beans will be produced and the rest is a by-product in the form of coffee husks. The advantage of this coffee skin compost is that its nitrogen content is quite high, around 6% so that it can substitute for fertilizers containing nitrogen. The problem is that the C/N ratio is high enough that it takes a long time to decompose or the solution is to add nitrogen sources and a decomposer to speed up decomposition. This community service activity was carried out in collaboration with the community in the Bondowoso district, namely the KAPAS Community in Sumbergading Village, Sumberwringin District and the TSS community in Sukosari Lor Village, Sukosari District. In the Bondowoso area, there are many youth communities with various activities aimed at advancing people's lives and improving the socio-economic status of the area. Coffee husk waste is very common in the area, so far, coffee skin waste has not been used optimally, so its benefits cannot be obtained. The solutions offered in this community service activity include: Provide an understanding of the importance of utilizing existing coffee husk waste for communities and communities in the Bondowoso area, Provide training on making fertilizer from coffee husk waste as an innovation in making fertilizer to increase agricultural yields in the Bondowoso area, Exploring and empowering the natural potential that exists in the community environment so that it can be put to good use, Initiate the business of making fertilizer from coffee husk waste as an innovation in making fertilizer for cost efficiency in agriculture Keywords : waste, coffee husk, innovation, fertilizer, health DAFTAR PUSTAKA Dzung NA., Dzung TT.,Khanh VTP.,2013. Abstract

Objective: Indonesia has many kinds of useful herbs, which are often used as species such as chili, pepper or cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L). Previous study showed topical capsaicin can be used as a therapy to cure pain due to inflammation. Small concentrations of capsaicin can attenuate cytokines in the inflammatory process. Capsaicin studies in animal model showed activation of the transient receptor potential vanilloid-1. Capsaicin can decrease various cytokines such as IL-6, IL-12, IL-1β, and increase IL-10. Capsaicin is a natural agonist for transient receptor potential vanilloid-1. The aim of this study is to prove the effect of capsaicin on transient receptor potential vanilloid-1 expression and TNF-α and TLR-4 toward pain.Material and Methods: An experimental laboratory research used animal model Wistar male rats (Rattus novegicus) induced with Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans serotype b and green chili extract (Capsicum frutescens L.) with a dose of 0.0912 mg/kg/day was applied to surface of the gingiva on maxillary first molar for 7 days. An immunohistochemical examination was conducted to see the density of transient receptor potential vanilloid-1, and the expression of TLR-4 and IL-1β in the mucosal tissues of the oral cavity. Results: There were significant differences in the applications of Capsicum frutescens L. with increasing of TRPV ligand-1 and IL-1β (p < 0.05), while the TLR-4 (p > 0.05) showed a significant difference to TRPV-1 and IL-1β. There is no significant difference to TLR-4.Conclusion: Capsaicin can increase TRPV-1 and decrease IL-1β but did not affect the TLR-4. Capsaicin can be used to decrease pain and accelerate healing process in periodontitis.
