Strengthening Vocal Register through Tembang Jawa Ornament Practice

This study analyzes Javaneseâs song ornament luk to strengthen vocal register. The movement of luk is either upward or downward has similarity to western vocal technique portamento. Portamento ornament is usually used in strengthening the switching technique of vocal register. Register is a vocal technique that has an advantage in maintaining timbre, so that the timbre sounds homogenous when the changing of register occurs. The results of the study show that the Javaneseâs song ornament Luke has successfully strengthened the vocal register on the practice of register intensification in western vocal disciplines.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari relevansi antara proses pembelajaran mata kuliah instrumen pilihan wajib piano, dengan tujuan kurikulum Fakultas Pendidikan Bahasa dan Seni UPI. Data penelitian adalah mahasiswa-mahasiswa peserta mata kuliah instrument pilihan wajib piano àdan tiga dosen pengampunya serta dokumen kurikulum FPBS UPI tahun 2009 yang memuat tujuan kurikulum. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah àmetode evaluatif dengan ciri khusus studi kasus sosial inkuiri. Hasil penelitian menyatakan, bahwa para peserta mata kuliah bersangkutan masih belum dibekali dengan materi komponen pembelajaran musik umum yang diaplikasikan melalui piano. Rekomendasi menyarankan subyek mata kuliah diperkaya dengan materi yang bersifat pendidikan dan pembelajaran musik yang diaplikasikan melalui piano.àThis study aims to explore the relevance of the instructions processes of ââ¬ÅPiano as a Compulsory Courseââ¬Â and the purpose of the curriculum of the Faculty of Education, Language and Arts at UPI. Data research participants were students of this course and three lecturers and the curriculum goals of FPBS UPI for 2009. The method used is an evaluative method of case studies in social inquiries with special features. The results of research are; the participants stated that the course has not yet provided the students with the material components of general music instructions applied through piano. Recommendations suggest that the subject of the course material be enriched with education and music instruction as applied through piano music.

This study analyzes the role of in-service teacher in supervising the pre-service teachers during the Teaching Practicum Program and in building the pre-service teachersâ character to be competent music teachers in the future. This study implements narrative inquiry as the method of research. Narrative inquiry method explains the variety of cases during the process of supervision by the in-service teacher. In addition, the research was held in Pasundan 8 Senior High School Bandung and was analyzed further by using qualitative methods with interactive analysis as it is formulated in the research question of this study. Results show that the supervision by an in-service teacher has been successfully enhanced the ability of pre-service teachers in teaching art and culture, particularly music lesson. The competence of pre-service teachers can be achieved by giving them examples, model, and music experience from in-service of the pre-service teachers.

This study is aiming at finding out the audiation model of salendro musical scale and teaching it to the non-Sundanese learners. Treatment done to the learners whose hearing sensitivity has not been familiar with salendro tone during the audiation practice. A method implemented in the study was grounded theory. It was used to explore initial audiation theory from Edwin E. Gordon in Syntax Learning Sequence in Music that was adjusted with learning stages of salendro tone. This study resulted in an audiation model of salendro tone to sharpen hearing sensitivity of non-Sundanese learners who had not been familiar with salendro tone.
