Since the formation of the Islamic society by Prophet Muhammad, mosque libraries fulfilled several important roles that deserve scholarly attention. Therefore, this article elicits the significance of these various roles within Muslim societies through Islamic history. Until present day, almost all mosque libraries provide a variety of collections, concerning both religious and non-religious issues, such as social science and education. In line with these roles, this paper presents different examples of mosque libraries that, through history, contributed significantly to the development of Islamic civilization, like the library of the al-Azhar mosque in Egypt, the Grand Mosque Library in Cordova, etc. In addition, several aspects determining the (in)significance of mosque libraries through history, such as library management and factors contributing to the stagnation of mosque libraries, are investigated.

Library collection development is mostly studied as professionalism based on a positivistic paradigm neglecting constructivist based paradigm. This constructivist base is reflected in various factors, such as ideology and commodification, which influence collection development. This research aims to investigate ideological contestation and commodification of institutions and audiences related to the collection development of Muhammadiyah University library. The ideological contestation was examined using Giddens? structuration and Bourdieu?s habitus. The research data was collected from interviews with five informants from librarians and library directors. The data were supported by observation and documentation. The data obtained were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman technique based on three stages: reduction, display, and conclusion/verification. The results of the research found three formations in contestation, i.e. internal institutions, external institutions, and professionalism of librarians. The internal institution represented by the UMY Library encountered with outside institutions, such as American Corner, Iranian Corner, and publishers. Meanwhile, librarians show their professionalism in facing the ideological domination of those institutions through various strategies regarding the development of library collection.

This research was conducted to investigate archives as information infrastructure in research. This term is used because archives are seen as the primary source for research. Thus, it is very fundamental and urgent for researchers regarding the data to be used and their accuracy is reliable. The research used a qualitative descriptive method in the frame of a constructivist approach in reading the phenomena of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Archives. Data collection was carried out using three main techniques, namely interview, observation, and documentation. The results of the study found three important issues related to the existence of archives as information infrastructure on research, i.e. archives as a means of historical preservation, primary document, and research development capital. As a curator of history, it seems that its function is very important in historical research because its birth was not intended to produce historical materials, but was born by itself following the interaction of the people. As a primary document, archives are important because they were born simultaneously with events, not from the stories of social actors. As for the framework of research development capital, archives are a source that has a high degree of accuracy, so that its function in research is very important to produce qualified research.

The legal politics of applying Islamic criminal law (al-jinâ'iyyah) to national law is still debatable. This is because many factors encourage Indonesian Muslims to feel that Islamic criminal law is very appropriate to apply considering that positive criminal law (KUHP) has not been able to complete a sense of security and justice for the community, especially the victims. This writing aims to explain how the ideal form of transformation of Islamic criminal law to national law is intended so that Islamic criminal law can be accepted by all groups or is universal and does not conflict with the goals of the state in the state constitution as a preventive effort against criminal crimes. This research uses normative juridical research with historical, philosophical and hermeneutic approaches. The results of this paper reveal that Islamic criminal law has been enforced although not in its entirety due to assumptions that view Islamic law as a rigid law, inhumane law and cruel law, so there needs to be socialization to the community that Islamic criminal law is present as an alternative law in create legal guarantees and certainty. Keywords: Legal Politics; Transformation; al-ahkâm al-jinâ'iyyah.
