Abstract

This paper was aimed at investigating the dialectics of power in library management in Islamic universities. The research used critical theory to understand power relations and ideology in the social dynamics of libraries. The research adopted a constructivist qualitative approach to examine the unique social phenomena of professional practices in which the power of ideology has taken place among library actors in a hidden way. The data collection technique employed interviews and observations validated through triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. The analysis technique used Miles and Huberman's three stages: display, reduction, and data conclusion/verification. The research results illustrate three main findings, namely the dialectic of ideology in the interaction of library actors that can be seen in the contestation between pluralist and non-pluralist groups, both among library actors and in its implications for library collections. The second issue is the struggle between internal and external actors in the library. This issue includes relations between the library and other units or with other library institutions. Lastly is the contestation between libraries and other institutions, especially international relations, such as corners managed in libraries.

Abstract

In the current era of globalization, increasing literacy in libraries is important, affecting the efficiency of services to users. This research aims to explain librarians' efforts to increase literacy at SMA Negeri 1 Karangreja. Descriptive qualitative methods are used to describe these efforts. The research results show effective strategies, such as a weekly literacy schedule, age-appropriate book selection, and incentives for active readers. Improving literacy also includes fun reading activities, creativity space, access to reading materials, use of technology, and collaboration with the journalist community and internet access. The role of librarians is key in providing satisfactory services to users, through good communication and dedicated service in the library.

Abstract

Kecemasan sering muncul ketika berada di sebuat tempat yang dirasa asing atau baru ia temui. Library anxiety adalah kondisi di mana pemustaka merasakan ketidaknyamanan, rasa tidak aman, ketidakmampuan dan pikiran negatif lainnya sehingga dapat menghambat kemampuan saat melakukan penelusuran di perpustakaan. Library anxiety juga dapat dialami oleh seluruh mahasiswa, tidak terkecuali mahasiswa baru penyandang disabilitas Tunanetra. mahasiswa baru penyandang disabilitas tunanetra juga dapat mengalami rasa cemas, tidak hanya dari internal diri mereka sendiri, melainkan juga dipengaruhi oleh faktor sosial disekitar mereka, termasuk dalam lingkungan perpustakaan. Penelitian ini mebahas tentang kecemasan perpustakaan yang dialami mahasiswa baru penyandang disabilitas tunanetra di Perpustakaan UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian studi kasus. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini data primer dan dat sekunder. Hasil penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa dari Sembilan faktor yang ditanyakan berdasarkan teori mellon dan Bostick terdapat lima faktor yang ditemukan mengalami kecemasan dan empat tidak ditemukan mengalami kecemasan. Adapun faktor yang mengalami Library Anxiety: The size of library, a Lack of knowledge about where things were located, Affective barriers, Library knowledge barriers, Mechanical and technological barriers. Faktor yang tidak menyebabkan kecemasan perpustakaan: How to begin, what to do, Barriers with staf, Library comfort barriers.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berupaya mengungkap kegiatan pelestarian naskah kuno sebagai upaya menjaga warisan budaya bangsa di Perpustakaan Museum Dewantara Kirti Griya Tamansiswa. Kajian tersebut fokus pada kegiatan pelestarian bersifat preventif dan kuratifnya, sekaligus membahas kendala-kendala yang dihadapi serta solusi yang diberikan dalam kegiatan pelestarian naskah kuno tersebut. Jenis pendekatan yang digunakan adalah deskriptif-kualitatif yang berupaya mengungkapkan fenomena dalam bentuk naratif sebagaimana adanya yang ditemukan di lapangan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Untuk memperoleh data yang valid, tiga bentuk triangulasi digunakan, yaitu triangulasi sumber, teknik, dan waktu. Sementara, analisis data yang digunakan mengacu pada teori Miles dan Huberman dalam tiga tahapan, yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data, dan verifikasi/kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa kegiatan pelestarian naskah kuno dilaksanakan melalui tahap kebijakan pelestarian untuk mengatur kegiatan pelestarian, seperti kuratif melalui cover box, pengaturan suhu, dan kelembaban. Selanjutnya, preventif dilakukan melalui digitalisasi, duplikasi naskah ke hard copy, dan pembersihan secara manual. Kegiatan pelestarian tersebut bermuatan penjagaan warisan budaya bangsa melalui perawatan fisik dan informasi naskah yang didiseminasikan ke publik. Terakhir, kendala yang dihadapi terkait sumber daya manusia dan pendanaan telah dikelola dengan langkah-langkah solutif perpustakaan. Hasil penelitian tersebut secara akademik menjadi masukan urgensif dalam pelestarian naskah kuno sekaligus berkaitan dengan kontinuitas warisan budaya bangsa.

Abstract

Introduction. Libraries as a dynamic environment have supported dynamic interactions in various aspects of life. These interactions occur in several frames such as culture, social, and ideology that pose power in library leadership at universities. Data Collection Method. In-depth interviews with nine informants, consisting of heads, librarians, and library staff in three libraries, conducted unstructurally between 2018 and 2020. Interview data was used as the main data collection technique, supported by observations and documentation. Data Analysis. Miles and Huberman's model with three stages, i.e. data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion or verification, was employed to interpret findings. Results and Discussion. The results showed five main issues, which are directly related to power representation in libraries. These issues include religious understanding, institutional vision, temporary power, seniority of library personnels, and the influence of the library collection development. Conclusion. The representation of power in library leadership practices has emerged in the frames of religiosity, organizational ideology, seniority, power, and impact of library collection. Therefore, this research contributes to library science theorists and practitioners concerning the awareness of the power representation issues.

Abstract

Rapid digital advancements present opportunities and challenges that significantly affect young adults' mental and emotional well-being. This study aims to 1) determine the level of digital literacy of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library Science students, 2) determine the level of quarter-life crisis experienced by UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library Science students, and 3) determine the effect of digital literacy skills on quarter life crisis of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library Science students. This research uses quantitative methods with descriptive and correlation types. The subjects are Library Science students’ classes of 2019 and 2020, and the object is the influence of digital literacy on the quarter-life crisis. Data collection was carried out using interview techniques, documentation, and questionnaires. Data were analyzed using mean, grand mean, product-moment correlation, and simple linear regression. The results of the analysis show that 1) students' digital literacy is in a very high category with a value of 3.4, 2) students experience a quarter-life crisis of 2.85 in the high category, and 3) digital literacy affects quarter-life crisis with a significance value of 0.000 <0.05. Based on the coefficient of determination, digital literacy affects 18.4% of quarter-life crises. Product moment correlation analysis shows a Pearson correlation value of -0.429, which means the higher the digital literacy, the lower the quarter-life crisis, and vice versa.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the harmonization of Islamic values and the local wisdom of the Banjar community in South Kalimantan, particularly from the perspective of the Qur'an. The research focuses on the work of Sheikh Muhammad Arsyad Al-Banjari in the book Sabil al-Muhtadin, which serves as a primary reference in resolving tensions between Islamic law and local traditions. The method employed is a literature review with heuristic and hermeneutic approaches to interpret the texts in the book. The results indicate that Sheikh Arsyad successfully integrated local wisdom, such as the use of jamban, burial with tabala, as well as zakat laws and halal food, into the framework of Islamic law with contextual considerations. These findings affirm that Sheikh Arsyad's moderate and adaptive approach not only preserved the authenticity of Islamic teachings but also respected local culture. This research makes a significant contribution to understanding the dynamics of interaction between Islam and local wisdom, as well as its relevance to contemporary Muslim societies.

Abstract

Religious energizer is a term that is frequently used to define an individual who serves as a facilitator in everyday life, including work, based on their knowledge and religious teaching. In the librarians’ circumstances, the religious energizer behavior can be observed through their attitudes at work. These behaviors arise from their experience and religious knowledge, which then disseminate to their work circumstances and relatives. This research aims to determine the religious activities carried out by librarians as religious energizers to support their performance at UIN Imam Bonjol Padang. This research is descriptive with a qualitative approach, using interviews, observations, and documentation methods to get information and data. The object of this research is the UIN Imam Bonjol Padang library, while the subjects are three librarians of UIN Imam Bonjol as informants. The samples are generated based on a purposive sampling technique with particular criteria such as respect for librarians in work. After getting information and data, the author analyzed the data using triangulation, considering several steps such as data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The finding revealed that three main activities reflect religious energizers performed by librarians at the State Islamic University of Imam Bonjol, Padang, such as 1) participation in religious practices, 2) sharing information, and 3) morning meetings. These activities bring librarians positive energy and vitality, conceivably upgrading their mental and emotional stability at work. Therefore, it is evident that religious energizers can improve the performance of librarians at the UIN Imam Bonjol, Padang library.

Abstract

The development of online application-based library services has experienced significant growth in recent years. The evolving digital era has opened up opportunities for libraries to utilize modern technology to improve user services. The use of online applications is a significant aspect of this development, allowing users to access the library catalog, borrow and return books online, and access electronic resources quickly and efficiently. With this ease of access, users have a more significant opportunity to explore the library collection and utilize the available resources. This research discusses the development of online application-based services at Grhatama Pustaka Yogyakarta. The method used is qualitative, with observation and interview data collection techniques. This research uses the concept of the nature of services related to all forms of information needed by library users and the means of searching for information available in the library. The results showed that the management of the Si Yokca application as a whole has experienced rapid development, which provides efficient access to users. The application provides various features and services that can assist users in retrieving information independently. The latest innovation from the application is the availability of the Delivery Order service, which allows users to borrow collections without having to come directly to the library. This research contributes to the understanding of the development of online application-based library services, the efficiency of user access, and innovations such as Delivery Order services for borrowing collections

Abstract

This research aims to understand the role of al-Hakim Biamrillah in developing of Dar Al-Hikmah library in Egypt during his leadership as Khalifah Daulah Fatimiyah. The research used a qualitative approach based on literature, both primary and secondary sources. This study found a number of important points related to the development of Dar Al-Hikmah library for the role played by the Khalifah al-Hakim. The first role played by al-Hakim is management of Dar Al-Hikmah library with the appointment of library managers to handle the library collections. The second role is the development of collection through procurement, especially related to the mechanism of purchasing books, both from local and other the countries. The last role concerns the library as a center for the development of science and teaching. As a center of science, this period is marked by the birth of great scientists, such as Ali bin Nu'man and Ibn Killis.
