Abstract

Radiation dose reduction in pediatric radiography, particularly for babygram examinations, is a critical concern in modern healthcare. Infants and young children are highly sensitive to ionizing radiation, necessitating stringent protection measures to minimize potential long-term health risks. This study aimed to implement and evaluate Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRL)-based strategies for optimizing radiation doses in babygram procedures at RSUD Dr. Soedirman Kebumen. A socialization program was conducted for radiology staff, including radiologists, radiographers, and medical physicists, focusing on DRL application, ALARA principles, immobilization techniques, and collimation strategies. Results showed improved adherence to DRL guidelines, enhanced awareness among staff, and more effective use of dose reduction techniques. Evaluations indicated significant potential for dose reduction without compromising diagnostic quality. By incorporating advanced dose reduction techniques and conducting regular audits, this study concludes that implementing DRL-based strategies significantly enhances patient safety in pediatric radiography while maintaining diagnostic efficacy. Recommendations include prioritizing professional development, regular quality assessments, and expanding the use of DRLs alongside investments in automated planning technologies.

Abstract

Beetroot, also known as Beta Vulgaris L, is a type of tuber plant that is reddish purple in color and has a shape similar to a potato. The pigment found in red beets is betalain, betalain is a class of antioxidants. Betacyanin is classified as an antioxidant that can prevent cancer, Cancer is one of the most devastating diseases affecting many people around the world. It is characterized by the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body, which can spread to other tissues through a process called metastasis. Beetroot has been linked to various health benefits, including its ability to fight cancer. However, public knowledge and understanding of the benefits of beetroot and how to cook it creatively and enjoyably is still limited. The solution is provided through training and mentoring for the community in making foods and beverages containing beetroot, ranging from practical training sessions to creating recipes that are easy to understand and follow. method of providing material on the importance of beetroot for preventing cancer as well as training and mentoring or hands-on in making beetroot juice and pudding. This community service activity was held at the Dinar Indah Cluster, RT 04 RW 26 Meteseh, Tembalang, with 30 participants. The activity included providing information on the importance of beetroot in preventing cancer. Community service activities also involve hands-on activities involving making beetroot juice and pudding by participants. Based on the results of the comparison between the pre-test and post-test, there was a significant increase between the scores of 40-60 to 80-100. This increase in scores indicates that the participants' understanding of beetroot, starting from the scientific aspects, nutritional content, to its role in cancer prevention, has experienced a real increase, and 100% of participants stated that the benefits of beetroot are very good for preventing cancer and encouraging people to adopt healthy behavior by diligently consuming beetroot.

Abstract

Background: Challenges in conventional radiology services, such as long queues and manual administrative procedures, hinder the efficiency of radiology services. With the introduction of a web-based administrative and archiving information system, it is hoped that patient registration, examination recording, and the delivery of results can be carried out effectively and efficiently. Research Objective: To design and evaluate the impact of a web-based radiology administration information system on a suitable radiology department so that it can replace the existing manual administration system in the radiology department. Method: Using the Research and Development (R&D) method and Rapid Application Development (RAD), the system was functionally tested via Blackbox Testing (Equivalence Partitioning technique) and its satisfaction level was measured using the End User Computing Satisfaction (EUCS) method. Results: Expert validation results showed that out of 89 test cases, 85 were deemed valid, achieving a validity rate of 95.5%. Furthermore, user satisfaction testing indicated that respondents were satisfied with the system’s content, accuracy, format, ease of use, and timeliness. Conclusion: this information system is capable of addressing service issues and reducing the potential for data input errors as it is fully integrated, covering medical records, administration, examinations, and the retrieval of patient results.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The quality of radiotherapy verification images on a 6 MeV Linear Accelerator (Linac) often decreases due to noise generated by high energy, potentially reducing the accuracy of irradiation positioning and endangering surrounding healthy tissues. The combination of Bilateral Filter and Non-Local Means techniques is a denoising method designed to reduce noise while preserving important image details. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of combining these two techniques in improving the quality of pelvis region verification images, focusing on the quantitative parameter Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) and the qualitative parameter of image information. The research design used was Research and Development (RD) with 20 samples of anteroposterior (AP) and lateral projection verification images obtained from the Electronic Portal Imaging Device (EPID) of a 6 MeV Linac at the Radiotherapy Unit of RSUD Dr. Moewardi. The denoising process was performed using Python–OpenCV. PSNR values were measured before and after denoising, while image information was assessed by four expert evaluators using a 1–5 scale checklist. Statistical analysis employed paired t-test or Wilcoxon test for PSNR, and Wilcoxon test as well as Cohen’s Kappa for image information. The results showed a significant increase in PSNR values in both projections (p 0.05) with an N-gain score of 59%–64%. Image information assessment also showed a significant improvement (p 0.05), with Cohen’s Kappa indicating moderate to strong agreement among evaluators. Therefore, the combination of Bilateral Filter and Non-Local Means has been proven effective in improving the quality of pelvis region radiotherapy verification images, potentially enhancing irradiation accuracy and patient safety. Keywords: PSNR, Bilateral Filter, Non Local Means, Radiotherapy.
