Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research is a quantitative research which has the purpose to find out whether or not there was significant correlation among students’ reading interest, reading comprehension, and their intralingual translation achievement of the sixth semester students of English Education Department of STKIP Muhammadiyah Kotabumi, North Lampung in the academic year of 2013/2014. Furthermore, the population of the research is the sixth semester students of English Education Department of STKIP Muhammadiyah Kotabumi consisting of 120 students, from the population, 42 students were represented as the sample which was taken through simple random sampling technique. The instruments used were questionnaire for reading interest, multiple choice test for reading comprehension, and written test for intralingual translation. After having the result, then the data were analyzed by using multiple correlation  in SPSS 20 Program for Windows. From the result of the data analysis shows that Ryx1x2 = 0.655 at the significance level of 0.05, and for the criteria of significant test is gotten Fcount (37.037) > Ftable (4.08). So, the result of hypothesis test shows that there is significant correlation among students’ reading interest, reading comprehension, and their intralingual translation achievement of the sixth semester students of English Education Department of STKIP Muhammadiyah Kotabumi, North Lampung in the academic year of 2013/2014. Key words: Reading Interest, Reading Comprehension, and Intralingual Translation Achievement.

Abstract

Corrective feedback is the most common ways of written feedback that usually used by lecturer to correct the mistakes of the students' writing and improve students' language accuracy in their writing tasks. Giving correction can be done by orally or written. It will inform about the errors of thestudents' writing especially a paragraph by Direct or Indirecrt corrective feedback. Furthermore, it also can encourage the students to improve their writing paragraph. The aims of the research are to investigate the types of corrective feedback that the lecturer provided in students' writing a paragraph, to investigate the students' development in writing a paragraph after receiving corrective feedback, and to investigate the dominant of corrective feedback that the lecturer provided in students' writing. This research employed qualitative research that examined 10 students in second semester of Muhammadiyah Kotabumi University. The instrument used was students' writing a paragraph. The result of this research showed that lecturer used both direct and indirect corrective feedbacks. It found that direct corrective feedback is more dominant than indirect corrective feedback. Moreover, it was also found that there were some improvements in their second written text after corrective feedback was given. In addition, giving some corrective feedbacks on students' writing paragraph could develop students' writing ability and motivate them revise and do better in their writing. Keywords: corrective feedback, direct and indirect, paragraph writing

Abstract

The aims of this research was to develop the teaching material and to know the effectiveness of learning material developments’ result through Interactive Reading subject by using Dick and Carey for third semester students majoring in English education Muhammadiyah University of Kotabumi in academic year 2020/2021. The sites were class 3A which consists of 17 students. This teaching material was developed using DICK and CAREY development procedures which included: 1)Identity Instructional Goal, 2) Conduct Instructional Analysis,  3) Analyze Learners and Contexts, 4) Write Performance Objectives, 5) Develop Assesment Instruments, 6) Develop Instructional Strategy, 7) Develop and Select Instructional Materials, 8) Design and Conduct Formative Evaluation of Instruction, 9) Revise Instruction, and 10) Designing and Implementing Summative Evaluation. Based on the test results, it can be concluded that teaching material that has been developed is very effective for learning Interactive Reading subject. It can be seen by the average score of 3A students got 75.6 higher than the score of 3B was 67.7, while based on the results of questionnaire, the three aspects of teaching material is in very good category.

Abstract

Program Kampus Mengajar merupakan program yang dapat dijadikan pilihan untuk dapat memperbanyak pengalaman. Kegiatan Kampus Mengajar dilaksanakan dengan memberikan bantuan pendampingan kepada guru dalam proses berlangsungnya kegiatan belajar mengajar khususnya meningkatkan kompetensi siswa dalam pembelajaran literasi dan numerasi. Adapun kegiatan Asistensi ini dilaksanakan mulai 26 Februrari 2024  sampai  13  Juni  2024,  dan  kegiatan  asistensi  mengajar dilaksanakan di SMP Negeri 5 Sungkai Utara yang berada di Kecamatan Sungkai Utara, Kabupaten Lampung Utara. Adapun kegiatan asistensi tersebut antara lain: mading kelas, jendela perpus, membaca 15 menit, belajar kreatif literasi dan numerasi, matematika ceria, skill praktis, pembentukan karakter religius, berkreasi dengan alam, dan penjagaan dan perawatan perpustakaan. Program pelaksanaan asistensi ini dilakukan dalam beberapa metode kegiatan dan seluruh kegiatan berjalan dengan lancar. Dengan adanya program kampus mengajar ini dapat memberikan dampak yang sangat baik pada Mahasiswa dan pihak sekolah terutama bagi SMPN 05 Sungkai Utara.

Abstract

The aim of the research is find out seven reader response strategies can encourage students’ literacy ability through lesson study. The method of research is Lesson Study-based Action Research. While the subjects in the action research in this lesson study are the fifth semester students of English education study program which consist of 28 students. The instruments used are observation and test. The data used in this study are qualitative and quantitative data. Related to the result of students score in cycle one shows that there are 3 students who categorized in very good, 10 students who categorized in good, 15 students who categorized in enough, and there were not categorized in poor and very less. Based on the result of observation and students score have not good enough categorized so it needed improvement on the next stage or next cycle that is second cycle. Related to the result of students score in cycle one shows that there are 10 students who categorized in very good, 13 students who categorized in good, 5 students who categorized in enough, and there were not categorized in poor and very less. Based on the result of observation and students score have mostly very good and good categorized so it means that there are improvement from cycle one to cycle two.

Abstract

This research is a deixis analysis which is one of the sciences of semantics. This study aims to classify deixis, to find the dominant deixis in movie, and to discover is there any deixis that cannot found in the movie. This research use qualitative descriptive strategy as the method. Researchers used a movie from Disney entitled "Toy Story: Lamp Life" as a medium for researching deixis. There are 5 types of deixis; person deixis, time deixis, place deixis, discourse deixis, and social deixis. Through the analysis process, it was founded 4 deixis but 1 deixis or social deixis is not founded, researchers used qualitative research method. After researchers classify the data, researchers found the dominant deixis in the movie "Toy Story: Lamp Life" is person deixis, and the deixis did not find is social deixis. Based on the result of the analysis, it is concluded that the movie has so many deixis that the students can use it to be a media to learn deixis in semantic learning.

Abstract

Community service activities carried out in Madukoro Baru Village, North Kotabumi District, North Lampung Regency, Lampung Province on 1–28 February 2023, the activity of making wallets using a rope was carried out as a form of community creativity in Sukadamai hamlet with the aim of increasing the creative economy and business development, the aid team to the people of Muhammadiyah University Kotabumi saw that in the village of Madukoro Baru there was a need for direction so that many people would be interested in coming to the village of Madukoro Baru because there was no tourism in that village so with this activity the team hoped that the village of Madukoro Baru would be able to attract the interest of people outside the village of Madukoro Baru and enliven the village by learning together. The implementation method is carried out with the community service team demonstrated how to make rope kur wallets as well as residents, especially mothers who are involved in this activity. With this activity, it is hoped that it can increase the creative economy in the handicraft sector as an effort to build the family economy in particular and the village economy in general.

Abstract

The aim of implementing community service in the form of training is so that PKK women as micro business product has expertise in how to make good and attractive packaging, labels and marketing. There were 15 participants who attended this activity, this activity was held one day on February 27 2023 at the Sukajadi district, the activity was held from 13.00-17.00 WIB. This activity is carried out starting from making preparations, namely by observing what problems we can help with, then providing information about the activities we want to do and then carrying out the activities we have planned and prepared. In this implementation activity, our PkM UMKO team provided material regarding labeling to micro business product actors who are members of the PKK women's group. In this training the team community service presents 2 materials, namely: digital marketing and the importance of labeling on products. The final activity is evaluating the results of community service activities in the form of training for micro business product actors.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dilakukan di desa Madukoro Baru Kecamatan Kotabumi Utara Kabupaten Lampung Utara Provinsi Lampung  pada tanggal 1–28 Februari 2023 kegiatan membuat dompet mengunakan tali kur dilaksanakan sebagai bentuk kreatifitas masyarakat di dusun Sukadamai dengan tujuan meningkatkan ekonomi kreatif dan pembangunan bisnis, tim pengabdian kepada masyarakat Universitas Muhammadiyah Kotabumi melihat bahwa di desa Madukoro Baru perlu adanya suatu arahan agar banyak orang tertarik untuk datang ke desa Madukoro Baru karena di desa tersebut tidak ada pariwisata sehingga dengan adanya kegiatan ini tim berharap agar desa Madukoro Baru mampu menarik minat masyarakat di luar desa Madukoro Baru dan meramaikan desa dengan belajar membuat dompet bersama, Metode pelaksanaan dilakukan dengan tim PkM mendemonstrasikan cara membuat dompet tali kur serta warga khususnya ibu-ibu yang ikut terlibat dalam kegiatan ini. Dengan adanya kegiatan ini semoga dapat memajukan ekonomi kreatif dalam sektor kerajinan tangan sebagai usaha untuk membangun perekonomian keluarga secara khusus dan perekonomian desa secara umum.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the factors of students' anxiety in writing class and identify the dominant factors of students' anxiety in writing class. This research used descriptive qualitative research methods. The data from this research were taken from the interview results with 10 students in the fourth semester of the English education study program at Muhammadiyah Kotabumi University academic year 2021/2022. The instrument used in this research is an interview. In the data analysis technique, the data using the Miles and Huberman model which consists of reduction data, display data, and conclusion drawing/verification. The research findings reveal eight key factors contributing to students' anxiety in writing classes. These include inadequate writing practice (4 respondents), low self-confidence in writing (6 respondents), anxiety from writing (8 respondents), inadequate writing technique (8 respondents), pressure for perfect work (8 respondents), time pressure (9 respondents), problem with topic choice (9 respondents) and language difficulties (10 respondents). The three most prominent factors are language difficulties, time pressure, and topic choice issues, affecting 10 and 9 respondents. These findings provided important insights for educators to understand the sources of students' anxiety and develop effective strategies to help them overcome barriers in learning to write
