Abstract

Vocabulary is an important component in learning a language. Vocabulary is used to communicate to each other through listening, writing, speaking, and reading. These skills are closely related to vocabulary mastery. However, students have difficulties in understanding the vocabularies from their reading or listening activities. This research belongs to quantitative study using quasi experimental of nonequivalent control group design to find out the influence of using Hangman game on the seventh graders’ vocabulary mastery. The data were collected through a multiple-choice test. The hypothesis is tested using t-test. From the calculation of t-test, it was found that tobserved = 2.7, with df = 30+29-2 = 57 in ttable = 2.0, because tobserved ≥ ttable or 2.7 ≥ 2.0. Therefore, it can be concluded H0 is rejected, while Ha is accepted. In other words, “Hangman game influences the seventh graders’ vocabulary mastery.”

Abstract

Reading means understanding a written text to get the information and knowledge as efficiently as possible. The foundational skills of reading are: word reading, fluency, vocabulary, and word knowledge. Many students of the fifth semester still get low in reading score. There are many factors that caused the low score of the students, such as: they do not have suitable method in learning English, they are lazy to repeat the material at home, and they have low motivation, and so on. Based on the problem, the researcher wants to investigate the correlation among learning strategies, emotional intelligence, and reading achievement. Furthermore, the population of the research is the fifth semester students of English Education Department of STKIP Muhammadiyah Kotabumi consisting of 85 students, from the population, 50 students were represented as the sample which was taken through simple random sampling technique. The instruments to collect the data used questionnaires for learning strategies and emotional intelligence and test for reading achievement. While to analyze the data, it was used multiple correlation in SPSS 13 Program for Windows. The data analysis shows that Ryx1x2 = 0.391  at the significant level of 0,05. And for the criteria of significant test is gotten Fcount (4.230) > Ftable (0,05) (4,01). The result of hypothesis test showed that there is significant correlation among learning strategies, emotional intelligence, and reading achievement.  Therefore, it is suggested that English teachers should teach by giving appropriate strategy and give the good example of emotional intelligence in teaching reading skill. Key words:  Learning Strategies, Emotional Intelligence, and Reading Achievement.

Abstract

Learning needs to be designed based on a need assessment and the need to develop learning materials that can answer learning problems in higher education. The development of Blended Learning materials is carried out to provide learning that can accommodate the breadth of required discussion and to elaborate on students' understanding, practice, and attitudes as competencies that are expected to be achieved in course learning. This paper aims to provide information about designing and producing blended learning materials that can solve learning problems. Dick and Carey's system approach model and Allan Jolliffe's web-based materials development model were used in the development of blended learning materials. The combination of learning materials, both printed and non-printed materials, can be arranged in face-to-face or non-face-to-face learning. Learning makes student activities and learning outcomes that make maximum learning outcomes. This paper describes the development of blended learning materials in higher education.

Abstract

The aims of this research was to develop the teaching material and to know the effectiveness of learning material developments’ result through Interactive Reading subject by using Dick and Carey for third semester students majoring in English education Muhammadiyah University of Kotabumi in academic year 2020/2021. The sites were class 3A which consists of 17 students. This teaching material was developed using DICK and CAREY development procedures which included: 1)Identity Instructional Goal, 2) Conduct Instructional Analysis,  3) Analyze Learners and Contexts, 4) Write Performance Objectives, 5) Develop Assesment Instruments, 6) Develop Instructional Strategy, 7) Develop and Select Instructional Materials, 8) Design and Conduct Formative Evaluation of Instruction, 9) Revise Instruction, and 10) Designing and Implementing Summative Evaluation. Based on the test results, it can be concluded that teaching material that has been developed is very effective for learning Interactive Reading subject. It can be seen by the average score of 3A students got 75.6 higher than the score of 3B was 67.7, while based on the results of questionnaire, the three aspects of teaching material is in very good category.

Abstract

Berbicara merupakan salah satu kemampuan yang harus dimiliki oleh siswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris, karena berbicara digunakan sebagai alat untukberkomunikasi satu dengan yang lainnya. Pengajaran berbicara untuk anak-anak bukanlah hal yang mudah, karena diperlukan metode yang menyenangkan dan tidak membosankan. Salah satu metode pengajaran berbicara untuk anak-anak adalah Show and Tell. Show and Tell adalah sebuah metode pembelajarandimana mereka bisa menunjukkan dan menceritakan objek yang ditemuinya dengan berbicara secara langsung. Tujuan dari Show and Tell adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mereka dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris, meningkatkan kepercayaan diri, menimbulkan keberanian, dan berani dalambersosialisasi dengan orang lain.

Abstract

Tidak dapat dipungkiri bahwa keberadaan dan keberadaan globalisasi membawa dan memberikan banyak pengaruh dalam berbagai pada sektor pendidikan. Tentunya, ini akan menjadi suatu permasalahan jika sekolah/lembaga tidak mengamati secara komprehensip dan memperhatikan dengan baik terhadap setiap pengaruh dan perkembangan yang tampak dari globalisasi. Pendidikan menghasilkan kebiasaan hidup bagi seseorang. Ini bisa dilihat dari perubahan nilai-nilai budaya yang ada pada individu dan masyarakatnya. Pengimplementasian budaya berdasakan karakter pendidikan adalah hal-hal yang pokok dari pentingnya kebudayaan bagi seorang individu.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dan pengembangan (R&D). Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengembangkan bahan ajar menulis esai (Essay Writing) melalui PLAN dan WRITE di STKIP Muhammadiyah Kotabumi dan untuk mengetahui efektifitas bahan ajar menulis esai terhadap hasil belajar mata kuliah Essay Writing. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode R&D yang terdiri dari 10 langkah namun peneliti hanya membatasi sampai dengan langkah ketujuh antara lain: studi pendahuluan, pengumpulan data, desain/penyusunan bahan ajar, validasi bahan ajar, revisi bahan ajar, ujicoba bahan ajar, dan yang terakhir revisi produk bahan ajar. Bahan ajar yang disusun terdiri dari 7 Bab/Unit, bahan ajar disusun merujuk pada buku panduan akademik dan Rencana Pembelajaran Semester (RPS) dalam satu semester yaitu untuk mahasiswa semester 3 Prodi pendidikan bahasa inggris. Bahan ajar juga telah divalidasi oleh dua ahli materi dan satu ahli desain dan media, berdasarkan hasil dari validasi bahan ajar oleh ketiga ahli tersebut bahwa bahan ajar termasuk dalam kategori sangat baik dan layak untuk diujicobakan. Ujicoba melalui tes menulis esai dan angket. Berdasarkan hasil tes dapat disimpulkan bahwa bahan ajar yang telah dikembangkan sangat efektif untuk pembelajaran mata kuliah Essay Writing, itu dibuktikan dengan nilai rata-rata kelas 3B yaitu 80,3 lebih tinggi dibandingkan nilai rata-rata kelas 3A yaitu 74,4, sedangkan berdasarkan hasil angket, ketiga aspek bahan ajar termasuk dalam kategori sangat baik.

Abstract

Clitics are words or parts of words that are structurally depend on neighboring words (it is the host) and cannot stand alone. The objectives of the research are 1) to investigate the types of clitics in the Novel “Murder on the Orient Express” by Agatha Crhistee. 2) to investigate the dominant types of clitics in the novel “Murder on the Orient Express” by Agatha Crhistee. This research used qualitative descriptive method and the instrument used was the researchers. The data of this research is taken from the novel “Murder on the Orient Express” by Agatha Christee. The data analysis technique used is Miles and Huberman technique, the steps are: data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion and verification. From the research results obtained that the researchers found 699 clitics. There are 22 proclitics and 677 enclitics. Proclitic only has two kinds (o') and (d'). While enclitic has eight kinds, namely ('m), ('re), ('ll), ('ve), ('d), ('s), (n't), and genetive ('s) and the percentage shows that enclitic is 96.85% greater than the proclitic is 3.15%. So it can be concluded that enclitic is the most dominant used in novel Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christee.

Abstract

The popular social media network today is Youtube. In the context of teaching and learning, Youtube can be used as a learning medium. Youtube can increase students' interest in learning Speaking. The benefit of the results of this study is to describe how students are interestedtouse Youtube in a learning medium for Speaking. This research uses descriptive quantitative research methods. The instrument of this research is a questionnaire. The results in this research is the use of Youtube as a learning medium played a significant positive role in increasing students' interest in learning. Youtube also has a positive role to increase students' interest in learning.

Abstract

Pada abad ke-21 ini, banyak sekali inovasi pembelajaran yang diperkenalkan sebagai alat untuk belajar berbicara, salah satunya adalah teknologi modern. Dalam pembelajaran, banyak jenis teknologi modern yang diperkenalkan untuk membantu siswa dalam belajar berbicara, seperti laboraturium bahasa, video, satelit, internet, blog, kamus digital, dan lainnya. Teknologi modern tersebut bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara terutama berbicara bahasa Inggris.
