Abstract

Abstract

Learning Management Systems (LMS) have become essential tools in educational institutions for delivering online learning experiences. Despite their widespread adoption, many elderly teachers face considerable challenges in navigating and operating these platforms, which can hinder the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process. Recognizing this issue, the present study focused on developing a more user-friendly LMS tailored specifically for elderly teachers by employing a design thinking approach. This approach, known for its human-centered and iterative nature, involves five key stages: empathy, problem definition, ideation, prototyping, and testing. The study involved 30 participants, including senior teachers, younger teachers, and LMS administrators, to ensure a comprehensive understanding of user needs and to foster collaborative development. During the empathy stage, the specific difficulties faced by elderly teachers were identified, and these insights guided the formulation of the core problems. Ideas for improving the LMS interface and functionality were generated and transformed into prototypes, which were subsequently tested and refined based on user feedback. Evaluation of the final LMS design involved expert validation in UI/UX, as well as the use of two established usability instruments: the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) and the System Usability Scale (SUS). Results showed significant improvements in user satisfaction and usability. The UEQ scores reached the “excellent” category, with the lowest score being 1.815, indicating high user experience across various dimensions. Additionally, the SUS score improved markedly from 50 to 76, highlighting a substantial increase in perceived usability. These findings suggest that the design thinking approach is highly effective in addressing usability issues and can lead to the development of more accessible and comfortable LMS platforms for elderly educators.

Abstract

Computational Thinking (CT) has become a crucial competence in 21st-century vocational education, particularly in programming-related fields. However, programming instruction in vocational high schools often emphasizes syntactic correctness rather than higher-order problem-solving processes. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of integrating the HUTS Online Judge (HUSTOJ) system with a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in improving students’ CT skills and to examine students’ learning behavior patterns through system log data. The study employed a quantitative pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design involving 38 tenth-grade vocational students majoring in Software Engineering. CT skills were measured using Problem-Based programming tests covering decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithmic thinking, while learning behaviors were analyzed using HUSTOJ activity logs. The results indicate a significant improvement in CT skills, with a large effect size and a moderate-to-high normalized gain. Log analysis revealed distinct learning behavior profiles, highlighting the role of iterative refinement and persistence in CT development. These findings suggest that integrating HUSTOJ and PBL provides effective scaffolding for learning and process-oriented assessment, making it a promising instructional model for vocational programming education.

Abstract

Abstract

Large language model development depends on large-scale training data, yet centralized collection raises privacy risks and concentrates control among a few organizations. Federated learning addresses part of this problem but retains a central aggregator, cannot readily verify contributions, and lacks sustained incentives. Blockchain integration resolves coordination and transparency, yet participant identity remains exposed to sybil attacks. This study designs, implements, and evaluates a prototype platform combining these three technologies. The prototype uses GPT-2 Small with 10,000 Alpaca samples partitioned Non-IID across five clients, the FederatedHub contract on Ethereum, and IPFS as off-chain storage. Evaluation covers 5 rounds across 3 seeds, 9 attack variants, a sybil attack using 10 identities, and two-attacker collusion. The delta-based scoring function yields scores from 27.3 to 73.0 correlating 0.920 to 0.991 with data volume, perplexity falls from 24.6722 to 7.7798, and ROUGE-L rises by 106.6%. The gate catches 8 of 9 variants, yet one variant that positions itself inside the acceptance range passes every trial while capturing 95.2% of legitimate client rewards. All sybil identities are admitted, and gas cost limits the system to 15 or 16 participants. The weakness lies in the identity and incentive layers, not in model quality.

Abstract

Visual false-context misinformation pairs an authentic image with an inaccurate claim about when or where it was captured, and is prominent in disaster reporting. Existing verification methods either rely on external web evidence unavailable before publication or on text-only analysis that is vulnerable to professionally written false narratives. This study designs and evaluates a proof-of-concept system that extracts Indonesian location and date claims using BERT-based Indonesian Named Entity Recognition and checks their consistency against GPS and timestamp fields in EXIF metadata through great-circle distance and temporal-delta calculations. Evaluation used a controlled synthetic benchmark of 250 samples built from 50 Flickr images with five narrative variants each, split by photo identity so that the test set held 50 narratives from 10 held-out images. Three configurations were compared, namely TF-IDF with linear SVM, an NLP-only rule system, and the proposed EXIF-assisted consistency checker. On this controlled test set, the hybrid configuration classified all 50 samples correctly, reaching 100% accuracy with an exact 95% confidence interval of 92.9% to 100%, whereas the two text-only configurations showed strong class bias with F1-Macro of 54.03% and 35.52%. However, the labels and hybrid features were both defined from the same spatio-temporal deviation, the test set was small and clustered by image, and EXIF integrity was assumed rather than authenticated. The findings therefore demonstrate correct implementation and potential utility for consistency screening, not real-world misinformation verification. External validation on human-written cases, missing or tampered metadata, and cluster-aware statistical evaluation is required before newsroom deployment.
