Abstract

Many opinions state that girls have a tendency to be closer to their fathers than boys. This is because fathers usually reveal soft attitude and a kind way of talking toward his daughter. In addition, fathers also succumb to the demands of his daughter. Conversely, with his son, fathers are usually much more 'rough and tough'. So, girls feels more secure to their fathers than boys. The objective of this study was to determine the differences of attachment style to fathers between early adolescent male and female in seventh grade classes of Junior High School 19 Banda Aceh. The number of samples taken were 60 students. A rating scale was used for collecting data, namely Adult Attachment Scale (AAS). The result obtained from the T-Tests showed there was no significant differences of attachment style to fathers between early adolescents male and female in seventh grade classes of Junior High School 19 Banda Aceh. However, early adolescents prefer to have close attachment style with their fathers.

Abstract

Non-intact families have a negative influence on children's development. A child needs a warm and loving family atmosphere. In families that are not intact, this need is not satisfactorily obtained. The child cared for by a single mother loses a father figure, whereas the child cared for by a single father will lose a mother figure. From that explanation, the researchers were interested in examining more deeply about family functioning among children from single parent families in Bener Meriah District. Data collection was carried out using Family Functioning Scale developed by Moos and Moos (2002). The results showed that most subjects had a perception of medium family functioning category. This is supported by previous research, indicated that other family members also play a role in the formation of family functioning, even though one parent in the family does not exist.

Abstract

Abstract Health survey demonstrates that 5.3 million people each year experienced a premature death due to physical inactivity (Lee et al., 2012). Data from Department of Health (2004) revealed that in the United Kingdom more than 60% of adult males and 75% of adult females did not perform enough physical activity. Hence, to minimize this problem, currently, health practitioners are trying to encourage people to be more physically active, especially by promoting several types of exercise, including walking (Marshall et al., 2009; Hallal et al., 2012). Regular walking is one of the essential predictors for long-term physical and mental health benefit. Some recent studies mention that there are lots of advantages if adults can maintain their regular walking (Gunnell, Knuiman, Divitini, & Cormie, 2014; Morgan, Tobar, & Synder, 2010; Roe & Aspinall, 2011; Shiue, 2015; Nagai et al., 2011). Regular walking minimum 10,000 steps each day can burn as much as 400 calories so that it may help overweight or obesity people to reduce their weight (NHS, 2014). However, most of the people perceive walking as one form of transport rather than exercise; therefore, this reason discourages them to walk sufficiently for healthy life purpose (Darker et al., 2007).Keywords:  walking, walking benefits, walking barriers

The data collection technique was done by using Family Functioning Scale developed by Maryam (2007) by referring to Rice’s theory (1986). The results showed that most of the family members had instrumental and expressive functions with medium category, with amounts of 53.3% and 91.7%, respectively. Abstract

Breakfast is one of the most important meals within a day and many studies have found that regular breakfast consumption is important in order to maintain an academic performance above average. However, young adults aged 17-24 years old are the highest population of breakfast skippers among other groups. Therefore, this study aimed to measure the association between frequency of breakfast consumption and cognitive function among college students in Banda Aceh city. The number of participant recruited through simple random technique was 300 college students. Cognitive Functioning Self-Assessment Scale was employed in order to obtain the data on cognitive function, whereas breakfast consumption was calculated based on the frequency of taking breakfast during the past week. Pearson Correlation was used to analyze the data and it showed a positive relationship between those two variables. Besides, the analysis also displayed a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05). This indicated that the hypothesis was accepted –there was a very significant relationship between frequency of breakfast consumption and cognitive function among college students in Banda Aceh city.
