Abstract

Smoking habit is a health problem that is found globally. Indonesia has the largest number of active smokers, reaching 65 million people. Fisherman is one of the occupation in Indonesia which have the largest proportion of active smokers, almost 44,5% compared to other occupation. Smoking habit triggers pathological conditions in the oral cavity. Smoking cause an inflammation of the palatal mucosa named nicotine stomatitis. The purpose was to determine the prevalence of nicotine stomatitis in fisherman at Puger Kulon and to find out the correlation between age, type of cigarette, the intensity of smoking and the incident of nicotine stomatitis in fisherman. Data were collected by interview with 301 respondents. Purposive sampling was used in this study. The chi- square test was used to examine the correlation between age, type of cigarette and the intensity of smoking with the incident of nicotine stomatitis. The prevalence of nicotine stomatitis in fisherman at Puger Kulon Village is 5.3% and age, type of cigarette, and intensity of smoking did not have a significant correlation to the incident of nicotine stomatitis in fisherman at Puger Kulon Village Puger District Jember Regency.

Abstract

Dental health problem in Indonesia is interesting to be studied since it reaches 80% of population. This study was conducted on the elementary school students in the working area of Kaliwates and Wuluhan Public Health Centers in Jember Regency in 2008 aiming at knowing the relations between dental caries and age as well asgender. The result showed that gender was not related to students’ dental caries, while age showed relation to the students’ dental caries.

Abstract

Recipe is the final embodiment of competence, knowledge and expertise of clinicians in applying his knowledge in the field of pharmacology and therapeutics. Factors determining the selection of patients who used the drug dosage form. In the pediatric patients given the drug orally in liquid dosage forms of solusio, suspensions or emulsions, and solid dosage forms pulveres form (powder). The research aims to find a picture of student knowledge of dental school at the profession on how to write prescriptions in the form of powder.The results showed that more than 90% of professional degree students do not know how to write a prescription correctly.

Abstract

Dental health perception and behavior of Indonesian people is still worse. The prevalence dental caries and oral diseases in Indonesia were increasing. A lot of Indonesia people didn’t know about how to care oral health. The aim of this study was to know how to care dental health of student in Pondok Pesantren Al-Azhar Jember. This was descriptive study. Sampling technique was absolute technique and used questioner. Result analysis was showed in frequency distribution. The result showed that dental health care behavior of elementary students was good; otherwise junior high school students were moderate.

Abstract

Objective:Cerebral palsy (CP) is a postural syndrome and non-progressive motor disorder due to pyramida and extrapyramidal tract damaged that causes limited motor activity and often accompanied by cognitive impairment or visual deficits. Limited motor activity causes the process of brushing teeth to be hampered so that oral hygiene becomes low. Nowadays there many types of toothbrushes that required difficult motor activities so it is not effective for children with CP. Wall Mounted Automatic Toothbrush with an automation system es expected to help CP children maintained their oral hygiene.Material and Methods:This study was clinical experimental with one group pretest posttest design in 5 samples in SMPLB and SMALB DYPAC Jember. Data analysis was the One Way Anova and Post-Hoc test using the Least Significat Diffferent. The Material of this study is wall mounted automatic tootthbrush and manual toothbrush, both of them is used by children with cerebral palsyResults:There are significant differences between all treatment groups. The lowest of Silness and Loe plaque index of all treatment groups is the treatment group after brushing teeth with manual toothbrush. Conclusion:The conclusion of this study is wall mounted automatic toothbrush can improve oral hygiene measured by the Silness and Loe plaque index.

Abstract

Pondok pesantren are Islamic religious education institutions, pesantrens' students are not allowed to bring communication tools that can cause the lack of knowledge of students, especially about dental and oral health. Eduaction is the provision of information that will increase knowledge. The purpose of study was to determine the influence of education toward knowledge dental and oral health of MTs class IX students at Pondok Pesantren Nurul Jadid and Al-Izza Situbondo. This study used quasi-experimental method with one group pretest and posttest research design. The research subjects was recruited using total sampling technique, as many as 37 students. The measuring instrument of this research used questionnaire. Data analysis used univariate analysis and T test and R2 test. The results showed that as many as 16 students (43%) had poor knowledge before being given education, after being given education there was an increase as many as 37 students (100%) had good knowledge. The results of the T test and R2 test showed that the value of p=0.000 (<0.05) and R2 was 0.086 (86%). The study concluded that there is an influence of education toward knowledge dental and oral health of MTs class IX students at Pondok Pesantren Nurul Jadid and Al-Izza Situbondo and had very strong category of closeness.

Abstract

HIV-AIDS is a complex health problem and the number of cases increases year by year. The highest number of new HIV-AIDS cases in East Java in 2018 was found in Jember at Primary Health Center (PHC) of Puger and Jember Kidul. In PLWHA (People Living with HIV-AIDS) patients, HIV-AIDS gives manifestation in their oral cavity. PHC plays a role in handling oral health problems of PLWHA and also HIV-AIDS problems. Purpose was to determine the utilization of oral health services by PLWHA in primary health center of Puger and Jember Kidul in 2019. This research was a descriptive study by analyzing secondary data. The data was taken from medical record data of VCT and registration book of oral health services at PHC of Puger and Jember Kidul. In 2019, there were 47 new PLWHA patients at PHC of Puger and there were 36 new and old PLWHA patients with oral health problems at PHC of Jember Kidul. Most of the oral health problems of PLWHA are oral candidiasis. PLWHA with oral candidiasis were treated at VCT, while caries was referred to oral health services. There were no PLWHA who utilize the oral health services in oral health services room at PHC of Puger meanwhile, the research wasn't carried out at the oral health services room of Jember Kidul primary health center due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The utilization of oral health services by PLWHA in PHC of Puger and Jember Kidul was low, and more persuasive approaches were needed to motivate PLWHA.

Abstract

A vape or e-cigarette is a battery-powered inhaler that serves nicotine which the WHO calls the Electronic Nicotine Delivery System (ENDS). Vape is a technology that resembles tobacco cigarettes without burning the tobacco leaves. Metal casing with built-in battery-powered atomizer to generate steam to inhale from cartridges containing propylene glycol and glycerol, flavorings, and nicotine. Various studies have been carried out to determine the impact of vaping. This study aims to determine the correlation between vaping with demographic characteristics and dry mouth complaints. The design of this study was cross-sectional, involving 44 people aged less than 60 years, who were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected by filling out questionnaires and saliva examination, then analyzed using Fisher's exact test and Spearman's correlation. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that smoking vaping has an correlation with dry mouth complaints (dry mouth complaints score and salivary secretion rate) and age. Keywords: vaping; dry mouth complaints; demographic characteristics

Abstract

Based on Basic Health Research Data (RISKESDAS) in 2018, the number of dental and oral diseases in Indonesia was 57.6% while the number of visits to the dental clinic was only 45.3%. As a result, in order to avoid disease, guardians must understand and apply efforts to maintain dental and oral health from an early age. These efforts can be influenced by the level of knowledge and the level of individual attitudes. The data is in line with the condition of Jelbuk District, Jember Regency, in 2020 the total visits to the dental clinic are still relatively low compared to existing dental and oral health cases. The aim of this research is to determine the level of knowledge, the level of attitude and analyzing the relationship between the level of knowledge and the level of attitude in an effort to maintain dental and oral health in the kindergarten guardians in Jelbuk District, Jember Regency. This research used analytic observational method with a cross sectional design. There are 3 samples in this study including Dharma Wanita Kindergarten, Al Baiturrahmah Kindergarten, and Gemilang Kindergarten. The data obtained were analyzed by the Kendall tau correlation test. The characteristics of the respondents include the average gender of women aged 20-30 years with the latest education level of Junior High school and Senior High school and the majority work as housewives. The level of knowledge and level of attitude of respondents in an effort to maintain dental and oral health is in the good category. The level of knowledge and level of attitude in an effort to maintain dental and oral health for the guardians of kindergarten students in Jelbuk District, Jember Regency are mostly in the good category and there are some belonging to the less category and the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitude is significant, strong and unidirectional.

Abstract

Background: The results of the Basic Health Research in 2018 show that the prevalence of caries in Indonesia is high (88.8%), and the prevalence of active caries in East Java is also high (42.4%). One of the consequences of untreated caries is stress dental pain due to toothache which has an impact on the quality of life.Method: Observational analytical research with a cross-sectional approach on people aged 17 years and above was conducted on February 2023 – March 2023. A total of 318 respondents uses simple random sampling. The variable of the research are dental caries severity (using the PUFA index) and dental pain stress (using a modification of the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale questionnaire with Perceived Stress Scale).Result: The data obtained were tabulated and analyzed with descriptive statistics and continued with the Spearman correlation test. 36% of respondents age 26-35 years, 57.23% were female. 41.82% have primary school education and work as housewives and farmers. The average caries severity is 2.6 categorized as high with dental pain stress categorized as medium. Spearman correlation test show significance (p) <0.05 which means there is a correlation between caries severity level and dental pain stress.Conclusion: There is a relationship between caries severity and stress dental pain
