Abstract

Kiai Kholil is a scholar of international scale and a pivot of power for the synergy of the scholars network of santri. Specifically, in the land of Madura and Tapal Kuda ranging from Situbondo, Banyuwangi, Probolinggo and Bondowoso with the network of Pesantren Sidogiri Pasuruan and Talangsari Jember. By this coordination he succeeded to gather those social groups through the Sabilillah-Hizbullah laskar which also connected the kinship line of his predecessors. He was able to capture the hidden potentials behind the land and Madurese community, as Snouck Hurgronje had assessed as central to the network of scholars of santri in Java. This paper intends to trace the life of Kiai Kholil Al-Bangkalani as one of the influential clerics of his time. The influence was built not only by the kinship line it possesses, but also pioneered with great soul and expertise in various sciences and studies of social religious fields of society. His thoughts were contained in a number of works that continue to adorn the treasury of science from the past until today.Keywords: Thought, Madurese, Ulama, Kiai Kholil

Abstract

ABSTRAK Jaringan Ulama di Cirebon abad ke-19 merupakan rangkaian mata rantai keilmuan baik berupa sanad tarekat yang ketersambungannya merujuk kepada Rasulullah SAW maupun melalui jalur  nasab yang dimiliki oleh para pendiri pesantren di Cirebon yang bermuara kepada Sunan Gunung Jati atau Syekh Syarif Hidayat (1448-1568) sebagai pendiri kerajaan Cirebon pada abad ke-15. Keduanya merupakan entry poin yang dapat menghubungkan ketersambungan ulama atau lebih dikenal sebagai jaringan ulama pada abad sebelum dan sesudah abad ke- 19 tersebut.Peran Makkah dan Madinah saat itu, terutama pada abad ke-17 dan 18 bahkan memuncak pada abad ke-19, sangat signifikan dalam membentuk rekonsiliasi tasawuf (mistisisme Islam) dan syariat sehingga muncul istilah neo-sufisme. Dan salah satu bentuk dari neo-sufisme ini adalah pengajaran-pengajaran tarekat selain pengajaran Islam lainnya yang lebih berorientasi kepada fikih.Tarekat Syattariyah kemudian menjadi tarekat yang paling dominan yang diinisiasi oleh para ulama Cirebon yang kemudian membentuk jaringan tersendiri dalam wadah pesantren-pesantren yang tumbuh dan berdiri di Cirebon; selain tentu saja banyak tarekat-tarekat lainnya yang juga berkembang cukup signifikan dengan jumlah pengikut yang cukup massif.Keberadaan pesantren tidak bisa dilepaskan dari keberadaan halaqa; baik di Makkah atau di al-Azhar Kairo, sampai kemudian  pesantren ini mengalami fungsi yang semakin meluas tidak hanya sebagai tempat kajian intelektual dan spiritual semata, tetapi juga sebagai tempat pengkaderan calon ulama-ulama yang kelak menjadi generasi penerus bagi terbentuknya jaringan ulama antar pesantren, khususnya yang berada di wilayah Cirebon. Kata Kunci: Cirebon, Tarekat Syatariyah, sanad, nasab, jaringan ulama

Abstract

Alih-alih disebut sebagai motor penggerak perubahan birokrasi dari sistem pemerintahan tradisional ke modern, Raffles justru memberikan ruang dan kesempatan bagi para pejabat kolonial untuk semakin memperbesar kekuasaannya. Sementara, para raja, sultan dan penguasa lokal semakin dikecilkan perannya, terutama dalam kegiatan politik dan ekonomi. Salah satu bentuk reformasi birokrasi yang diputuskan oleh Raffles adalah penetapan Sistem Landeliijk Stelsel (Sewa tanah) yang dianggap mengawali perubahan dalam gerakan sosial budaya dan mengangkat posisi para petani dengan cara menghapuskan sistem tanam paksa menjadi sistem kontrak atas tanah. Sebaliknya, sistem ini menjadi bukti dominasi terhadap priyayi yang banyak dikurangi tersebut. Apalagi setelah Raffles membentuk kebijakan baru yaitu mengangkat pegawai Eropa. Para pegawai Eropa yang baru dan dijadikan sebagai petugas pendamping, pengawas para bupati dan para pengawas penghasilan yang diperoleh dari tanah (Opziener der landelijke inkomsten) yang kemudian disebut sebagai pangreh praja (Controleur van het Binnenlands Bestuur). Abstract

AbstractThe idea of Shrieke in his race theory, as quoted by Azra, says that the Portuguese expansion can not be separated from the Crusade War in Europe and the Middle East. It is further said that the desire of adventure and ambition of honor combined with religious spirit is the driving force that drives the expansion of the Portuguese into the Asian region. The arrival of the Portuguese came in early 1511 to Malacca, followed by other Europeans such as France, Britain and the Netherlands to various parts of the archipelago, ultimately creating resistance from the people of the archipelago. In an effort to defend his honor and his homeland, the indigenous fighters were not only from the Adam people, as some of them were heroes of the female sex. The colonial period and the effort to achieve independence are very difficult times to pass. Where at that moment, words no longer sounded but only the sounds of ammunition. This is certainly a difficult time especially for women. In this condition, they are required to maintain the honor and salvation of their own lives.Keywords: female, colonial, Islamization

Abstract

The current paper is dedicated to investigate a moderate religious doctrine through the presence of Islamic mysticism (sufism) resulted from Imam al-Ghazali. We argue that al-Ghazali's teaching imparted balance between the world and the hereafter like body and spirit. Al-Ghazali’s thought influenced many Indonesian mystics across fifteenth to nineteenth century. We believed that Indonesian Moslems scholars who were influenced by Al-Ghazali’s teaching developed religious propagation through wisdom and moralilty. We found that by applying mysticism moderate Islamic propagation were accepted by most of Indonesian Moslems. As a result, they were succesful in undertaking social transformation without any negative impact.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss the millennial era version of zuhud in the perspective of hadith. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive-analytic method. The formal object of this research is the traditions about zuhud in Sunan at-Tirmidzi chapter Zuhud, while the material object of this research is the millennial era version of zuhud. The results and discussion of this study show that the millennial version of zuhud from the perspective of hadith can be extracted from the traditions of Sunan at-Tirmidzi chapter Zuhud in the hadith about early success in the hereafter, the hadith about the humiliation of the world before Allah and there is no comparison with the hereafter, and the hadith about hastening in goodness. This study concludes that the attitude of zuhun as an Islamic teaching exemplified by the Prophet PBUH which later became the forerunner of Sufism teachings can basically be realized in the form of a millennial era version through understanding and practicing hadith.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss the concept of community spiritualism in the era of modernization in religious social life. This study uses a qualitative approach by applying descriptive methods. The results and discussion of this study indicate that urban society, which is often synonymous with modern society, still tends to be individualistic, rationalistic, materialistic, and formalistic. It is this problem that causes society to continue to focus on following the trend of modernity, even though along with the development of the times it must be adjusted to the quality of spirituality in spiritual training so that it can lead itself to the right path that is not bound by lust. This study concludes that the essential meaning of spirituality is not material but rather a metaphysical concept that focuses on deepening the psyche where this is relevant to be actualized in modern society.

Abstract

The purpose of this service is to provide an understanding of the importance of the attitude and practice of religious moderation in this pluralistic world. In this community service activity, it is carried out at Jam'iyyah Zawiyah Dar el-Sa'adah, which is a non-formal Islamic educational institution in the form of a community of regular recitation congregations. Activities at dedication to the community at Jam'iyyah Zawiyah Dar el-Sa'adah are carried out to form a more moderate understanding. In this community service, the participatory action research methodology is used as a strategy to achieve the goals of the service. The implementation steps used for community service are filling out lectures and presentations as references, followed by discussion. The conclusion of this activity is to shape the attitude and practice of religious moderation towards the Jam'iyyah Zawiyah Dar el-Sa'adah community in the life of the nation and state and to create harmony in social relations in various aspects of life.
