Abstract

AbstractNowadays, the phenomenon of squid game is exploding at an alarming rate. It does not take long for the audience to spread the drama virally, as it is so true to life. People of all ages from all over the world are extremely enthusiastic about the outcome of the drama, which is referred to as euphoria. The descriptive qualitative method was used in this study, and the author discovered that the three most famous trends inspired by the drama are red and green light, dalgona candy, and costume play. Children are more likely to  not consume in order for the rating to be 18+, but the trends can't be denied at all, even when it comes to children. It also has an impact on their mental and behavioral health.

Abstract

This study aims to see the meaning properties of the Covid-19 terms in six different articles. By seeing the meaning properties of these Covid-19 terms we can find if the terms are used meaningfully in those articles. The basis of meaning properties include being meaningful or meaningless – they are deemed meaningless if the words used contain ambiguity, redundancy, anomaly, and contradiction. In this study, the qualitative method was used. The sources of data are covid-19 related articles from Google Scholar. The articles chosen are free-accessed articles related to covid-19 impacts, pandemic, and its measures to tackle the crisis. The six covid-19 related articles are read through and the covid-19 related words or phrases that occur more than one time in one article and in more than one article are collected as the data, thirty-eight terms are the result of this data collection. The application of the thirty-eight terms is analyzed by their meaning properties. The result shows there are nine phrases or sentences that are anomalies, five redundancies, and two ambiguities in the original articles. The findings show that even in Google Scholar articles, some of the Covid-19 terms are not used meaningfully in the sentences.

Abstract

The objectives of the research are to identify the types of translation technique, to evaluate the translation quality and to find out the effect of translation techniques on the translation quality used by Pein Akatsuki and Deni Aurora in Indonesian subtitles of Coco movie. This research applies descriptive qualitative method to assess data with documents and informants as source of data. The result shows that there are 16 types of translation techniques used by Pein Akatsuki and Deni Aurora in translating Indonesian subtitles. For both subtitlers, literal translation and borrowing create high level of accuracy, acceptability, and readability. Modulation and the other techniques are showed in high and medium levels of accurate translation, but they result in high levels of acceptability and readability. Based on the findings, the translation techniques applied by the subtitlers contribute positively to the quality of Indonesian subtitles in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability.

Abstract

Semantic is a branch of linguistics that is focused on the meaning of being used by almost of all people in conveying particular communication purpose. Such in the context of speech, people are tend to choose particular diction or language which may bring different sense or meaning to the hearer. It is thus necessary to study the meaning semantically for preventing misunderstandings in interpreting the meaning. So then this study explored the used of semantic meaning in Susilo Bambang Yudhoyo’s speech entitled “The Role of Military in a Changing World”. This study focused on associative meaning and conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The researcher found that there are 131 utterances in SBY’s speech categorized as associative meaning. The results of this study indicate that the associative meaning in SBY’s speech can be realized through contrastive concept and considering the context it used. Furthermore, it is found that the frequently type of associative meaning used in SBY’s speech was affective meaning in amount of 44%.

Abstract

The research found how the realization of swear word in RS’s case in twitter. By analysed the tweet to know how the realization of use swear word trough the motive has used to find out the reasons use swear words related to the RS’ case. The motive has found how to realization swear word in RS’s case are psychological motive, social motive and linguistic motive. Supporting research by analysed the tweets related in RS’s case, as many 121 clauses were obtained. It found psychological motive is the most motive has used by twitter’s users.

Abstract

This research aims to find out and describe the improvement of students’ listening skill through bingo game. Classroom Action Research (CAR) designed by Kemmis and Mc Taggart which consisting of four phase in each cycle: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting was used as the research method. In obtaining the result, there were two types of data collection: the qualitative data (observation and interview) and the quantitative data (pre-test and post-test). In analyzing the data, descriptive analysis and statistic analysis were used to find out the result of bingo game implementation. The result showed that the use of bingo game improved the students’ score and their responses were good. For the students’ responses, it can be seen through the observation and interview taken. In addition, the improvement of the students’ achievement were proved after the tests in each cycle (pre-test, post-test I, and post-test II) taken: the students’ mean score in pre-test was 57.25 and the students’ mean score in post-test II was 75 which the improvement of the students’ mean score in pre-test and post-test II was 17.75. Then, the percentage of the students who met the KKM in pre-test was 35%, post-test I was 65% and post-test II was 85%. In summary, the result showed that the implementation of the Classroom Action Research met the target CAR (75%) which means that the Classroom Action Research was successful.

Abstract

This paper is aimed at describing the cyberbullying issues that occur in social media platform especially in Instagram. The qualitative method is used in this paper. The data source is obtained from several Indonesian Celebrity Instagram accounts through case study approach. Through this paper, the researcher presents several examples of cyberbullying cases, what motives that cause someone to become a bully, and what are the impact that will occur in victims of bullying. By identifying and analysing all the data, the researcher found the motives of someone became a bully, such as; do not like the presence and personality of others, tends to saying negative comments which immoral and abusive, to entertain others by mocking someone, having bad personality such as envy, jealousy of someone’s achievements, having high of self-confident, think the bullies are better and more qualified than the victims and assume that cyberbullying is a natural thing.

Abstract

This research examines the use of apology strategies applied by Kevin Rudd in his speech of stolen generation. Kevin Rudd is an Australian former politician who was the 26th Prime Minister of Australian, serving from December 2007 to June 2010. This study is conducted to find out (1) the types of apology strategies Kevin Rudd used in his speech, and (2)the way on how apology strategies used by Kevin Rudd in his speech. This study applies descriptive qualitative method. The data were taken from the transcript of Kevin Rudd’s speech. This study uses Trosborg’s theory on apology strategies. The result of apology strategy analysis in Kevin Ruud’s speech shows that he has used the apology strategy in delivering his speech. This study reveals that there are seven categories and nine sub-categories of apology strategies on Kevin Rudd’s speech. The strategies are acknowledgement of responsibility, promise and forbearance, expressing concern for the hearer, minimizing the degree of offense, explanation or account, as well as offer of repair as the type of apology strategy which are employed. Based on Trosborg’s theory, the most dominant apology strategy used by Kevin Rudd in his speech was “expression of apology”.

Abstract

As an activity of transferring a message from a source text to a target text, translation certainly involves several processes. Different processes require certain amount of time allocation depending on the translator’s cognitive load. Studying translation process is essential to reveal what actually happened while a translator was doing his/her tasks, contributing to a better translation product. This study aimed at finding out the time management and the translation method in translating a scientific article by a professional translator. The scientific article is composed of more than five thousand words; thus, the researcher reduced the limit of the words to one thousand words to avoid the technical problems. This qualitative study used a case study as the research method. The participant of this research was a professional translator from the Association of Indonesian Translator (HPI). The data were collected using a keyboard logging program (Translog-II) and a screen recording tool (OBS Studio). Based on the data analysis it was found that the professional translator (i) distributed more time in the drafting stage; and (ii) applied the linear and inline methods during the translation process. It was found that the professional translator focused translating on word by word, phrase by phrase, and paragraph by paragraph. It is concluded that the activities in each stage of translation process contributes to the result of translation.

Abstract

This research was concerned with social consecutive interpreting; its objetive was to analyze and find out the mastery in knowledge of two interpreters who played their role in two different religious activities. The first religious activities led by an American Evangelist, namely John Hartman; and the other activities led by the Israeli Evangelist, namely Ps. Benny Hinn. Both the Interpreters observed in this research are Indonesian and work as an Evangelist. The data in this research were collected by using questionnaire and conducting interviews and processed by using Likert scale calculation and analyzed by using descriptive quaitative method, based on the theory of interpreting competency in order to find out their mastery in knowledge to determine their competency in interpreting. The questionnaire then given to three raters who are Indonesian and really experienced in doing Interpreting in religious setting. The result of this research are: (i) both Interpreters mastered in both source and target language (namely English and Indonesia), as well as in both cultures; (ii) although they do not work as an Interpreter, both of them are succeed in transferring the message and making the audiences understand about the preaching.
