Abstract

In practical activities of animal structure subject, the students needed a handbook that can help them to master the materials through practice activities. Animal development practical handbook based on scientific approach could help students to increased their abilities and competencies in practice activities. The research aimed to describe the developmental process of practical handbook based on scientific approach and to produce a valid, practical, and effective handbook. The research used Plomp models which consisted three phase involving of preliminary research, development or prototype, and assessment phase. The instruments of data collection were obtained from handbook validity sheets, practicality questionnaires for lecturers and students, and observation sheets in order to see the students’ competencies (cognitive and psychomotor aspects). The field test was done by 41 biology students at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. The data was analyzed descriptively and statistically. The results of the research show us that animal structure practical handbook based on scientific approach is very valid. It meant that the practical handbook has a good quality based on the assessment from the expert of content, constructive, technique, and language. The lecturers and students categorized this handbook as very practical since it is easy to used. The handbook was categorized as effective because the experiment class shows the increasing of their competencies at cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. It is because the students could follow the phases of scientific approach well. Thus, it could be said that the animal structure practical handbook based scientific approach that has been developed was valid, practical, and effective. Abstract

The learning module is one of the learning materials that makes students learn independently so that is known to what extent students have mastered a learning material. Based on the analysis of needs at SMA Nurul Qomar Palembang, it is known that the condition of the learning module is still a learning module with material presentation in the form of essays which are still equipped with writing without a certain approach, so that students find it difficult to understand the material. This study aims to determine the validty and practicality of mind mapping learning modules on the circulatory system material for SMA Nurul Qomar Palembang. This research is up to the seventh stage of ten stages, namely: 1)potential and problems, 2)data collection, 3)product design,4)design validation, 5)design revision, 6)product testing, 7) product revision. The subjects of this study were students of class XI IPA SMA Nurul Qomar Palembang. The data collection techniques used were observation, interview and questionnaire distribution. The data analysis technique used is the analysis of the validty of the learning module and the analysis of the practicality of the learning module with a measurement scae according to Riduwan (2009). Based on the validation of several experts 90,62%, and learning device experts 83,33%, biology teacher response 75,59%, student response 88,21%, the mind mapping learning module on the high school blood circulation system material gets the criteria of “Very Appropriate” so it is very well usedin the learning process. Abstract

The lack of availability of biology learning materials integrated by Qur'an's verses, especially in biology subjects, even though Indonesia has the largest number of moeslim in the world. We should have variations of learning materials integrated by Quran’s verses to help students understand biology subject matter that is integrated by Quran’s verses. The aim of study was test the validity of the biology handouts on animalia material for SMA/MA. This type of research was research and development using the Plomp model. This research is limited to two phases, namely the prelimanary research and the prototype phase. The data collection technique was obtained from the validation sheet. Validation was carried out by four validators, namely media, linguists, material , and experts in interpreting Quran’s verses. Based on the validation stage, the results were very valid for the four fields, namely media (3.63), language (3.25), material (3.62), and interpretation of the Quran’s verses (3.67). Thus, it can be concluded that the integrated biology handout of the verses of the Qur'an on animalia material is declared very valid.

Abstract

Students are using the Quizizz application for the first time in a Microbiology course, so it is necessary to know their response regarding using this application. The purpose of this study was to describe the responses of students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic regarding the use of Quizizz while attending Microbiology lectures. This research is descriptive. This research was conducted in the January-June 2021 and 2022 semesters. This research involved 79 students of the 2019 and 2020 batches of Raja Ali Haji Maritime University who had taken online Microbiology courses. This study used a questionnaire distributed via Google Forms after students attended Microbiology lectures with the Quizziz application until the end of the semester. The number of questionnaire items given was 18, which were grouped into three aspects: 1) easiness of the application, 2) available benefits, and 3) unique benefits felt by students during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the results, the response of students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic related to the use of Quizizz while attending Microbiology courses is in a good category.

Abstract

The current development of artificial intelligence technology demands that everyone improve their critical and reflective thinking skills. Therefore, efforts are needed to prevent weakening human thinking skills due to dependence on this technology. This research aims to describe a critical and reflective thinking design framework suitable for applying artificial intelligence technology in the biology learning process. It was conducted through a literature review related to this topic. Based on the results obtained, there are eight elements of a critical and reflective thinking design framework for applying artificial intelligence technology.

Abstract

This study is a Research and Development study, namely product development including validity and practicality tests. The ADDIE model consists of the stages of analysis, design, and development with details, one to one and small groups. Data collection was in the form of observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The results are as follows: media experts rated the product as 98% “highly valid,” subject matter experts rated it as 92% “highly valid,” language experts rated it as 80% “valid,” interpretation experts rated it as 77% “valid,” and religious values experts rated it as 98% “highly valid,” with an average validation score of 89% “highly valid” and suitable for use. The results of the practicality test from the educators were 97% “very practical,” one-to-one evaluation 89% “very practical,” and small group evaluation 88% “very practical,” with an average result of 91% categorized as “very practical” for application in the learning process.

Abstract

An effective understanding of curriculum analysis is crucial for prospective Biology teachers, as it lays the foundation for their future teaching practices. Recognizing the extent of students' foreknowledge in this area is essential to adapting appropriate teaching methods to enhance the student's overall learning experience. This study was conducted in August 2024 to assess the initial knowledge of third-semester Biology Education students at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang regarding the course material. Data were collected and analyzed quantitatively using a closed questionnaire consisting of 10 questions, distributed via Google Forms, with a sample size of 77 students. The primary objective of this research was to evaluate students' prior understanding of the curriculum analysis topics in biology. The results indicated that the average knowledge score among students was only 38.83 with low category, suggesting that many students lacked a solid understanding of the curriculum analysis course material. These findings highlight the need for enhanced instructional strategies and resources to better prepare students for the curriculum analysis course, ultimately improving their comprehension and performance in this essential area of their studies. The novelty of this research is that it reveals learning strategies and policy recommendations that are appropriate to the needs and initial level of understanding of students in taking the Biology Curriculum Review course.
