Abstract

Nasrudin Joha's ideology and discourse were one of the attempts to compensate for the dominance of rulers and capitalists. The criticism developed by Nasrudin Joha built the consciousness of the oppressed. With that awareness, Nasrudin Joha mobilized the oppressed to form a unified Islamic political identity and establish a caliphate system in Indonesia. This research aims to analyze Nasrudin Joha's strategy in building the ideology of the caliphate system and proclaiming it through social media. The authors used qualitative research methods in the field of mass media and used critical discourse analysis. The focus of his study was ideology and discourse in an article written by Nasrudin Joha on an online media platform. The results of this study found that Joha had used the theory of active reception to the readers. Joha positioned himself as the opposition and voiced the aspirations of the oppressed. In developing ideology and discourse about the caliphate system, Joha has similarities with the flow of Marxism, namely the resistance of the oppressed. On the other hand, Joha has a tendency to follow post-Marxist notions of freedom and oppose the oppression of the regime and capitalist groups.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to analyze Da’wah Tarbiyah of the Indonesian Muslim Students Islamic Union (KAMMI) from the perspective of political communication and public opinion. The methodology used is qualitative with a literature study approach. Data was collected from various journals, books, and research results published online. Data analysis techniques use flowing techniques (data reduction, data display, and drawing research conclusions). The nature of data analysis carried out in the study is descriptive-analytical by making descriptions and analyzing all library data that has been obtained. This study concludes that the Da’wah Tarbiyah of KAMMI has a romantic relationship with Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and the Muslim Brotherhood. The typology of the Da’wah Tarbiyah is conservative, accommodating, and reformist, carrying out the vision of uniting the state with Islam. KAMMI built Da’wah Tarbiyah by conducting political communication with the PKS as the house of the movement. This organization makes public opinion so that the Muslim community accepts Da’wah Tarbiyah. This extra-campus organization fights political communication and public opinion by integrating da’wah and politics so that Islam can become a formal ideology in building the country.

Abstract

Several works available on religion and HIV/AIDS indicated that several religious groups in the world, including Indonesia, are still reluctant to be involved in the prevention of HIV/AIDS. However, the involvement of the two largest religious organisations in Indonesia, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Moluccas Protestant Church (Gereja Protestan Maluku/GPM) in combating HIV/AIDS for the last ten years deserve to be investigated and studied, as new evidence which refutes the above studies. The result of this study shows, first, the involvement of NU and GPM in the prevention of HIV/AIDS showed the potential of religious organisations in health development, particularly as a progressive strength in the fight against pandemics such as HIV/AIDS. Second, the most fundamental forms of involvement are changing religious views about HIV/AIDS as a cursed disease into a disaster or a test that requires patience. NU and GPM also organise social activities, public education, and policy advocacy for HIV/AIDS programs. Third, although this article has not been able to present the decrease of HIV/AIDS prevalence in Indonesia as a result of religious organisations involvement such as NU and GPM, however, at least there have been some contributions from both organisations toward the decrease of negative stigmatisation to people living with HIV/AIDS.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines a local case of HIV/AIDS prevention and stigma reduction in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, focusing on the role of the Victory Plus Yogyakarta Foundation in integrating social and religious approaches. HIV/AIDS prevention programs in Indonesia continue to face major challenges, including unequal access to health services, social inequality, and persistent stigma against people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). This study aims to analyze the role of religious leaders in HIV/AIDS prevention from both global and local perspectives, as well as the role of religious leadership within the Victory Plus Yogyakarta Foundation. Employing a constructivist paradigm and a qualitative approach, the research uses in-depth interviews, literature reviews, and data and source triangulation. The theoretical framework is based on Jan Servaes’ development communication perspective, which emphasizes the interaction between global and local dimensions and the importance of participatory social actors. The study is further enriched by Patchanee Malikhao’s perspective on the strategic role of religious leaders in health communication. The findings show that HIV/AIDS prevention efforts continue to encounter barriers such as limited public participation, unequal access to services, and persistent stigma toward PLWHA. Nevertheless, the digital da'wah communication approach implemented by the Victory Plus Yogyakarta Foundation has proven effective in increasing public awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging empathy and social acceptance. Religious leaders play a strategic role in communicating humanistic moral values, although capacity-building remains necessary to prevent the reproduction of stigmatizing narratives. This study contributes theoretically by integrating Jan Servaes’ participatory development communication framework with Patchanee Malikhao’s faith-based health communication perspective, offering a new perspective on inclusive and culturally grounded HIV/AIDS communication strategies in local religious communities.
