Abstract

Background: Timber industry is one industry that has experienced an increase in noise levels as a result of the presence of modern machines, higher speeds, and more levels so that the risk of workers experiencing hearing loss due to noise can increase as the occurrence of Noise-Induced Permanent Threshold Shif (NIPTS). Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the risk factors associated with subjective complaints of workers due to noise at work and formulate control measures to prevent the occurrence of NIPTS. Method: This type of research is analytic observational with a cross-sectional design at PT.X, Probolinggo Regency in June 2019. The research sample of 44 respondents was chosen randomly by simple random sampling and the data were analyzed by chi-square test (α = 0.05). Result: The results of noise measurements in the work environment show that the 5 areas in the production section, only 3 areas have an average noise more than 85 dBA, namely WW1, WW2, and WW3. Whereas the most non-auditory complaints suffered by workers were among those with noise intensity of more than 85 dBA and in the WW2 and WW1 work areas. The results of cross-tabulation and analysis of Chi-Square statistical tests showed that the value of p = 0,000 <(α = 0.05). This means there is a significant relationship between noise intensity with complaints of hearing loss in workers. Conclusion: only the intensity of noise with complaints of hearing loss in workers who have a statistically significant relationship.

Abstract

Introduction: Obesity is a health problem experienced by workers in the manufacturing industry. The incidence of obesity is caused by various factors, including lack of knowledge. This study aims to analyze the factors associated with knowledge about obesity among workers. Methods: This study an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach conducted at PT XYZ in Surabaya City, East Java Province. The population of this study consisted of 145 workers in the manufacturing sector from various work units. The sample size consisted of 119 people. The independent variables were age, sex, work tenure, work unit, education level, and access to information about obesity. Meanwhile, the dependent variable was knowledge level. The statistical test used was the contingency coefficient test. Results: The results showed that most workers were over the age of 35 years (89.9%), males (67.2%), worked in a production work unit (60.5%), had worked for more than 20 years (78.2%), had a high school degree (54.6%), had good knowledge (55.5%), and did not have access to information about obesity (55%). A relationship was found between work tenure (p = 0.001), education level (p = 0.002) and access to information (p = 0.004) with knowledge level of the workers about obesity. Meanwhile, age (p = 0.437), sex (p = 0.643), and work unit (p = 0.335) had no significant relationship with knowledge level of the workers about obesity. Conclusion: A relationship was found between work tenure, education level, and access to information with knowledge level about obesity.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia is a country that is rich in various tourism potentials. Tourist destinations in Indonesia have spread not only in big cities, but also in districts and even villages that have the potential for promising tourist sites. Gresik Regency is one of the regencies with lontar sewu tourist destinations that are quite interesting to visit. The number of emerging tourist destinations in various regions makes the manager consider the safety aspects of visitors and employees working at tourist sites. Therefore, tourism managers need to develop contingency plans and mitigation measures to improve preparedness and reduce the adverse impacts of disasters. Purpose: This service activity aims to map evacuation routes and educate employees at tourist sites with disaster mitigation socialization activities related to knowledge and awareness of disasters and a simulation of disaster occurrences in Gresik Regency tourism, namely Edu Wisata Lontar Sewu, Hendrosari Village, Menganti District. Methods: The method of activities carried out is divided into 3 main stages, namely 1) the planning stage starting from exploring partner problems, reviewing the program target areas, preparing proposals, mapping evacuation route points at tourist sites; 2) the implementation stage consists of the location mapping stage, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), visualization stage, installation stage and socialization activities; 3) The last stage is the evaluation stage consisting of a question and answer session at the end of the socialization session, and 2) disaster simulation by participants. Results: The result of this service activity is that 21 evacuation routes have been installed at tourist sites, the installation of evacuation route maps at 5 location points that have the potential to have many visitors, and the presence of gathering point locations at tourist sites. In addition, related to the results of non-structural disaster mitigation, showed that participants looked enthusiastic when socialization related to disaster mitigation was carried out and they were able to take part in disaster simulation activities properly and correctly and carry out self-rescue efforts by following the evacuation route that had been installed and heading to the gathering point according to the time. determined is 1 minute 25 seconds. Conclusion: Employees at tourist sites can make mitigation efforts by the directions at the time of socialization, namely by running in the direction of the evacuation route that has been installed at the tourist location and can go to the meeting point location according to a fast time of 1 minute 25 seconds.

Abstract

Background: Leaf litter in Carangwulung Village, Wonosalam, Jombang, often accumulates and is either burned or discarded, potentially contributing to air pollution and environmental degradation. Processing leaf waste into compost is an appropriate and practical solution that is not yet widely known or implemented by the local community. Objective: This activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of the community, particularly farmer groups, in independently managing dry leaf waste into compost fertilizer. Method: The methods used included education, outreach, and training involving 20 participants representing farmer groups. Evaluation was conducted using pre- and post-test questionnaires to assess knowledge levels, as well as direct observation during practical sessions and group discussions to assess participant skills. Results: There was an increase in participants' knowledge, with the average overall score rising from 7.5 on the pre-test to 9.0 on the post-test. Conclusion: This training successfully enhanced the community’s capacity in managing organic waste and represents an initial step toward adopting simple technologies to support environmentally friendly farming at the village level.
