Abstract

The area around the Parit Belanda Riverhas been used by human activity. Remains of the activity may enter the water and decrease the water quality of the river. To understand the water quality of the Parit Belanda River, a research was conducted in March-April 2016. There were three sampling stations namely Station 1 in up stream, Station 2 in the middle of the stream, and Station 3 in down stream. Samplings were conducted 4 times, once/week.Water quality parameters measured were temperature, transparency, velocity, pH,DO,CO2,nitrate and phosphate.Results shown that temperature: 29-30oC, pH : 5, DO:3.15-3.96 mg/L, CO2: 22.98-56.93mg/L,velocity : 0.9-0.27 cm/second, transparency: 30.75-38.75 cm, nitrate: 0.13-0.21 mg/L, and phosphate 0.25-0.33 mg/L. Nitrate concentration indicate that the Parit Belanda River was categorized as oligotrophic, but base on phosphate concentration indicate that the Parit Belanda River is mesotrophic.Keywords : River , Parit Belanda River, Water Quality, oligotrophic, mesotrophic

Abstract

ABSTRACTPeriphyton is a microscopic organism that lives attached to a submerged substrate. This study aims to determine the trophic status based on periphyton on a glass substrate at Lake Perupuk conducted in June-July 2019. There are three sampling stations, namely S1 (at the inlet lake), S2 (in the middle of the lake). lake) and S3 (at the end of the lake). Sampling is done once / week for 3 weeks. Periphyton samples were brushed from glass substrate (8 x 3) cm2. The number of media in S1, S2 and S3 is 24 pieces each. Water quality parameters measured are brightness, temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, free carbon dioxide, nitrate, and phosphate. The results showed that there were 29 types of periphyton found consisting of 5 classes, namely Bacillariophyceae (11 species), Chlorophyceae (7), Cyanophyceae (6 species), Zygnematophyceae (3 species) and Euglenaphyceae (2 species). The abundance of periphyton in the glass substrate at S1 on the surface was 8,763 cells / cm2, at S2 it was 11,939 cells / cm2 and at S3 on the surface was 21,339 cells / cm2. Water quality parameters are as follows: oxygen range: 5.32-6.40 mg / L, CO2: 5.99-15.98 mg / L, temperature: 28-30 0C, brightness: 44.3-49.3 cm, pH: 5, phosphate: 0.0125-0.0646 mg / L, nitrate: 0.0553-0.2146 mg / L. Data obtained shows that the quality of perupuk lake water is suitable to support periphyton life.    Keywords : Type and abundance, sessile organism, aquatic algae, glass

Abstract

AbstractManinjau Lake is a volcanic lake that is used for various human activities such as drink water sources, tourisms, transportation and aquaculture. Many activities contributes the input of organic and anorganic matters that affect water quality and the trophic state of the water in general. A research aims to understand the types and abundance of phytoplankton and the trophic state of the Maninjau Lake waters based on the Nygaard Index was conducted in January – March 2017. There were 4 stations namely  Station 1 (bay area), Station 2 (inlet area), Station 3 (fish floating cages area) and Station 4 (outlet area). In each station, the water were sampled from 3 different depths, in the surface (0.5 m), 2 Secchi depth (1.2 m) and 4 Secchi depth (2.4 m). Samplings were conducted once/2 weeks for 1.5 month period. Results shown that there were 68 phytoplankton species that were belonged to six families, namely Bacillariophyceae (20 species), Chlorophyceae (29 species), Cyanophyceae (13 species), Euglenophyceae (2 species), Dinophyceae (1 species) and Chrysophyceae (3 species).The average of phytoplankton abundance was around 12,517 – 21,565 cells/L and the Nygaard Index value was 2.4 – 3.4. The water quality parameters were as follows: temperature 26.8 – 28.4 0C, transparency 53.67 – 72 cm, depth 16.9 – 47.5 m, pH 6 – 8, free CO27.3 – 32.7 mg/L, DO 0.24 – 8.09 mg/L, nitrate 0.02 – 0.39 mg/L and phosphate0.068 – 0.161 mg/L.Based on the abundance of phytoplankton and the Nygaard Index value, the Maninjau Lake can be categorized as mesotrophic to eutrophic. Keywords:Phytoplankton, Maninjau Lake, Indeks Nygaard, Water Quality

Abstract

Periphyton is one of microorganisms that serve as primary producer in the aquatic environment. The periphyton contain Chlorophyll-a that is used for photosynthesis activity. To understand the concentration of Chlorophyll-a in glass substrate the Salo River, a study has been carried out in April-May 2015. The Chlorophyll-a data are used as a basis to calculate the primary productivity in the Salo River. There were 3 stations, in each station the water and periphyton were sampled once/week, for a 4 weeks period. The number of glass sampled in each station is following Berkman and Canova 2007, there are 30, 15 and 9 pieces in Stations 1, Stations 2 and Stations 3 respectively. The periphyton samples are brushed from the surface of glass substrate (10 cm x 3 cm). The chlorophyll-a concentration in the glass substrate ranged from 2.574 mg/m2 – 5.514 mg/m2. The chlorophyll-a concentration indicates that the trophic status of the Salo River is oligotrophic.Keywords : Salo River, Periphyton, glass substrate, chlorophyll-a

Abstract

Periphyton is a group of microorganisms that grow in some natural subsrates such as rock, wood, plants and aquatic animals. A research aims to understand the type and abundance of periphyton at smooth surface glass and rough surface glass in the Parit Belanda River has been carried out in March-April 2016. There are three station namely station 1 up stream, station 2 in the middle of stream, and station 3 at down stream. Sampling once/week for a 4 weeks period. The periphyton samples were brushed from the surface of glass substrate (8 cm x 3 cm). Type of periphyton was identified based on Bigg and Killroy (2000), Yunfang (1995) and Prescot (1974). Result shown that there are 36 types of phytoperiphyton are belonged to 4 classes, namely Bacillariophyceae (17 species), Chlorophyceae (10 species), Cyanophyceae (8 species) Rhodophyceae (1 spesies), whereas zooperiphyton are belonged to 5 classes, namely Monogononta (9 spesies), Euglenophyceae (3 spesies), Crustacea (1 spesies), Adenophprea (1 spesies) and Insecta (1 species). The abundance of phytoperiphyton attached in the smooth surfaced glass was 18,790-25,230 cells/cm2 and the zooperiphyton was 1,400-2,540 organisms/cm2. While the rough surfaced glass, it was 20,780-30,450 cell/cm2 and the zooperiphyton was 1,280-1,470 organisms/cm2. Based on the composition of periphyton, it can be concluded that the Parit Belanda River can be categorized as eutrophic.Keywords: Parit Belanda River, Periphyton, Glass Substrates

Abstract

A research aims to understand the biomass of periphyton in the Salo river based on its biovolume has been carried out in April-May 2015. There were 3 stations namely the upstream (S1), midstream (S2), and downstream (S3) of the river. Samplings are conducted 4 times, once/ week. Results shown that the biomass of the periphyton in the S1 was 9.43 mg/cm2, S2 was 14.63 mg/cm2 and S3 was 51.32 mg/cm2. The abudance of periphyton in the all station Salo River is significantly different, there were S1 (9.43 mg/cm2), S2 (14.63 mg/cm2), and S3 (51.32 mg/cm2). Abstract

Anthropogenic activities conducted around the Parit Belanda River may produce organic pollutant that affect the water quality in general and it is reflected in the concentration of chlorophyll-a in the water. A research aim to determine the trophic status of the Parit Belanda River based on chlorophyll-a concentration has been carried out in December 2016. There are three stations namely station 1 (in the upstream), station 2 (in the middle), and station 3 (in the downstream). Samplings were conducted once/week for 4 weeks period. Water quality parameters measured were temperature, pH, transparency, turbidity, DO, CO2, nitrate and phosphate. Result shown that chlorophyll-a concentration range from 8.15-11.56 μg/L. Water quality parameters were as follows: temperature 28-290C, pH 5-6, transparency 46.5-55.8 cm, turbidity 19.24-25.06 FTU, DO 2.30-5.10 mg/L, CO2 32.96-54.94 mg/L, nitrate 0.076-0.137 mg/L and phosphate 0.221-0.264 mg/L. Based on the chlorophyll-a concentration, the Parit Belanda River can be categorized as mesotrophic.Keywords : chlorophyll-a, mesotrophic, water quality, Parit Belanda River

Abstract

ABSTRACTPhytoplankton will respond to the nutrient material that is input into the Koto Panjang Reservoir in Batu Bersurat. The dynamics of phytoplankton abundance will occur depending on nutrients and light intensity based on time and depth. This study aims to look at the dynamics of phytoplankton abundance based on time and depth. This research was conducted in June-July 2019. The sampling locations were determined by 3 stations 4 times with a time interval of 1 week. At each station, there are 3 sampling points, namely on the surface, at 2 Secchi depth and at 4 Secchi depth. The parameters measured are temperature, brightness, depth, pH, DO, CO2, nitrate, and phosphate. Based on measurements at different depths, it was found that the abundance of phytoplankton was most surface and decreased at depths of 2 Secchi and 4 Secchi. Based on time, phytoplankton abundance is increasing every week. Water quality parameters recorded as follows, temperature 29-31 oC, transparency 153.5-161.25 cm, pH 5, DO 6.2-6.8 mg/L, CO2 7.3-9.3 mg/L, nitrate 0.056-0.082 mg/L and phosphate 0.59-0.96 mg/L.Keyword: The Dynamic of Phytoplankton, Water Quality Parameters, Reservoir Puddles

Abstract

                   AbstractTypes and abundanceof phytoplankton can be used to determined the trophic state of water.To understand the types and abundances of phytoplankton present in the Tuok Tonga Lake, a research has been conducted in June-July 2019. There were three sampling points, namely in the inlet, in the middle of the lake and in the end of the lake. In each sampling point, water was sampled from the surface and 2 Secchi depth. Samplings were conducted 3 times, once/week. Water quality parameters measured were temperature, transparency, depth, dissolved oxygen, CO2, pH, nitrate and phosphate contents. Results shown that there were 43 species of phytoplankton that were belonged to 5 classes, namely Bacillariophyceae (10 species), Chlorophyceae (24 species), Cyanophyceae (4 species), Euglenophyceae (4 species) and Cryptophyceae (1 species). The phytoplankton abundance in the Tuok Tonga Lake was 59,462-129,908 cells/L. The most common type of phytoplankton present was Monoraphodium sp. Results shown that the temperature was 29.7-31.7oC, transparency was 61.7-62.7 cm, depth was 125-284 cm, pH was 5, dissolved oxygen was 3.4-5 mg/L, CO2 was 5.3-14.7 mg/L, nitrate was 0.02-0.08 mg/L, phosphate was 0.03-0.15 mg/L and pH was 5. Based on the type and abundance of phytoplankton present, it can be concluded that the Tuok Tonga Lake can be categorized as mesotrophic. Keywords: Kampar River, Oxbow Lake, Mesotrophic, Phytoplankton abundance

Abstract

This research was conducted of March 2013 in the Tanjung Putus Oxbowthat is located in the Buluh China Village. This research aims to understand thevertical profil chlorophyl-a.Chlorophyl-a samples were collected from 3 stations. In each stations,there are 2 sampling sites, in the surface and 2,5 depth. Sampling was done threetimes, once a week. Result shown that the chlorophyl-a content ranged from 8,97-20,1 g/l. Water quality parameters values were: depth : 89,0–92,3 cm;temperature: 30 –31 oC; transparency: 141–301,7 cm; pH: 5; DO: 3,67 – 6,17mg/l; CO2: 7,76–15,7 mg/l; phosphate: 0,04– 0,13 mg/l and nitrate: 0,02 – 0,100mg/l. Chlorophyl-a was higher in the surface tahan of secchi area. The resultshowed that Tanjung Putus Lake water is enough productive and be support theorganism aquatic.Key words : Chlorophyl-a, the vertical profiles, Tanjung Putus Oxbow
