Abstract

ABSTRACT Watermelon (Citrullus vulgaris Schard) is one of the fruits that are very popular Indonesian society because it tastes sweet, and a lot of water content. Watermelon needs continue to increase while the results are still low. So it is necessary to increase the yield of watermelon. To improve the growth and yield of watermelon watermelon plant development at the start time of seeding. How to nursery and nursery media greatly influence the growth and yield of watermelon. For research that has been carried out from  1 December  2012 to 10February 2013 subdistrict located in Batang Kapas Puppies South Coastal District. In order to know the influence of various media seedling on growth and yield of watermelon seedlings and get a suitable media to the results of a watermelon. This research used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments and 5 replications. Garden soil, garden soil + river sand , rice husk ash + garden soil, garden soil + cow manure, river sand + soil + rice husk ash garden. Supervision starting at week 2, week 4, week 6 and week 8th after planting. Observation is the observed percentage of live seeds, the number of leaves (pieces), plant height (cm), weight of fruit crops (g). Data were analyzed using analysis of variance and LSD test continued at α level of 5 %. Results showed media soil + river sand is the best medium for the growth of watermelon (Citrullus vulgaris Schard). The results were analyzed with the following variance showed that the use of tangible media to be more influenced seedling crops including watermelon seed alive, number of leaves (pieces), plant height (cm), weight of fruit crops (g). From the results of the research in order to encourage the farmers to use the media in raising crops of watermelon seedlings as more economical .

Abstract

ABSTRACT Sonneratia caseolaris is one mangrove plant species belonging to family Sonneratiaceae. Sonneratia caseolaris has three morphological variations are dwarf, semi-dwarf and normal. In connection with such variation has been studied to determine the anatomical structure of the vegetative organs pedada red (Sonneratia caseolaris (L.) Engler) in Mangrove Forests Kenagarian Mangguang Pariaman city. This study was conducted in January-February 2013 by using the descriptive method of making permanent preparations. Based on the results, the differences in the complexity of the tissues of the three variations Sonneratia caseolaris. At the root Sonneratia caseolaris dwarf and normal tissue there is a sklereid amplifier, whereas the semi-dwarf Sonneratia caseolaris reinforcements in the form of fiber tissues. In the third variation stems from Sonneratia caseolaris there is no difference but the similarity of the complexity of their tissues  covering cuticula thin epidermis, cortex, vascular tissue and pith while the third variation on the leaves of Sonneratia caseolaris difference is the semi-dwarf and normal Sonneratia caseolaris there is substance ergastict in the form of crystalline type drush , while the dwarf Sonneratia caseolaris not found. Another difference is in the normal Sonneratia caseolaris  the epidermis consists of 2 layers, on Sonneratia caseolaris dwarf and semi-dwarf only 1 layer and the normal Sonneratia caseolaris  palisade tissue consists of  2 layers while Sonneratia caseolaris dwarf and semi-dwarf 3 layers.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBamboo distributed in various places in West Sumatera, including at Anai Valley Nature Reserve  Tanah Datar District. Anai Valley Nature Reserve has a high biodiversity that estimated diversity at Anai Valley is quite high. Descriptions using the bamboo flower organs was difficult because most rare bamboo flowering and some have not flowering. It is necessary to look for other alternatives as descriptions of materials, namely by using the anatomical structure of vegetative organs such as culm. To determine the type of bamboo that is at Anai Valley Nature Reserve has conducted investigated on morphological and anatomical characters some of bamboo species, using descriptive and quantitative methods were conducted in March-July 2013. Specimens of bamboo identified in Herbarium Andalas University (ANDA) Padang. Making preparations carried out in the Laboratory of Structural Plant Development, Department of Biology, Andalas University, Padang. Results of present study, six species of bamboo in Anai Valley Nature Reserve are: Bambusa balcooa (Roxb.) Voigt, Schizostachyum brachycladum Kurz, Bambusa glaucophylla Widjaja, Schizostachyum silicatum Widjaja, Bambusa vulgaris Schrad. Ex Wendl, Schizostachyum mampouw. Anatomical culm structure of B.balcooa, B.glaucophylla. and B.vulgaris, tends to have a dominant fiber outer sheath compared with Schizostachyum genus. Genus Bambusa consists of 6-9 rows that have a separate fiber sheath of vascular bundle centripetally, while the genus Schizostachyum obtained 3-4 rows. Longest fiber in Bambusa vulgaris get on that 2830±32 mm and the shortest on Bambusa glaucophylla is 1855±20 mm . While the width of the fiber diameter on Scyzostachyum silicatum at 28±4 mm and narrowest on Bambusa vulgaris is 19±4 mm. Comparison perenkim cell diameter of the rod toward the edge of the shows that growth stems from the edges toward the inside

Abstract

ABSTRACT Sea cucumbers (Holothuroidea) is one class of Echinodermata (thorn-skinned animals) that live in coastal waters Saibi that have no nutritional value and high economic. This causes the animal much overexploited by communities around the coast that have reduced the presence of population. Based on this research has been done on the composition  of  the  cucumbers were  found  in  Saibi  Beach  Middle  Siberut  Mentawai District, in December 2012. This research is descriptive and sampling using belt transect method with squares measuring 1 m2. Sample identification is done in Laboratory Animal Ecology, State University of Andalas Padang. The results showed that sea cucumbers were found to be composed of 6 species which consists of 1 class, 1 order, 2 Family and 4 genus Holothuria consisting ie 3 species, whereas Stichopus, Bohadchia Thelenota and 1 species each. Highest density at Station I (3.66 indivedu/m2) and the lowest at Station III (2.99 individu/m2). Highest frequency contained in the Station I (3.66%) and the lowest at the third station (2.99%). Indeks Divesty  is highest at the first station (1.4672) and lowest in the Station II (1.3693). Spearman correlation level obtained at the third station r count  is smaller than α r table at 5% level (0.829) correlated not real, physical and chemical factors in the Pantai Saibi Kecamatan  Siberut Tengah Mentawai District, temperature range 27-300 C, pH 74-75, DO 7,1-8,4 ppm and salinity 15.18-50.20 mg / L Â
