Abstract

The objectives of this study are (1) to find out the speaking ability of students in grade 9th of SMP SultanAgung 1 taught without using Cartoon “frozen” movie. (2) to find out the speaking ability of students in grade 9th of SMP Sultan Agung 1 taught with cartoon “frozen” movie. (3) to know the difference in speaking ability of students in grade 9thin SMP Sultan Agung 1 taught with and without using cartoon “frozen” as Media.This study investigates the speaking ability of the students taught using cartoon “frozen” movie as media, the speaking ability of the students taught without using cartoon “frozen” movie as media, whether or not there is significant difference of speaking ability between the students taught using cartoon “frozen” movie and those taught without cartoon “frozen” as media..This study, belongs to experimental quantitative method. The population of the study was ninth grade students of SMP Sultan Agung 1 Semarang. In this study, purposive sampling has been used to take the samples. The samples were 9A as experimental group, and 9E as control group. Then, the instruments of this study were test and document.It was found that the mean of experimental group was 72.53. Meanwhile, the mean of control group was 60.67. The mean of experimental group was higher than the mean of control group. So, it found that there was significant difference of the speaking ability between the students taught using cartoon “frozen” movie and those taught without using cartoon “frozen” movie as media.From the research findings, it can be concluded that since the use of cartoon “frozen” movie as modelin teaching speaking , the students were more interested in teaching learning process. It was proven based on the computation. The result of t-test was3.71 and t-table was 2.00. So the value of t-test was higher than t-table (3.71>2.00).It concludes that using cartoon “frozen” movie as media can promote students speaking ability. Based on the conclusion, some suggestions were proposed for the teacher and the students. The teacher can use cartoon “frozen” movie as media for teaching speaking. The students can use cartoon “frozen” movie to enhance the understanding of the content information, and to promote their speaking ability.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan aplikasi pembelajaran dalam Pelatihan English for Academic Purpose (EAP) di Universitas PGRI Semarang pada masa pandemi COVID-19. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi masalah yang dialami peserta Pelatihan EAP di Universitas PGRI Semarang pada masa pandemi COVID-19. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh peserta Pelatihan EAP Universitas PGRI Semarang. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuesioner. dan kuesioner disusun menggunakan Google Form. Dalam mengumpulkan data, penulis membagi tautan kuesioner melalui grup WhatsApp. Data penelitian ini dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis kualitatif, yakni reducing data, displaying data, dan drawing conclusion. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Pelatihan EAP Universitas PGRI Semarang menggunakan tiga aplikasi pembelajaran daring selama masa pandemi COVID-19, yaitu Google form, WhatsApp, dan aplikasi iSpring Suite. Hasil penelitian yang lain yaitu mahasiswa mengalami berbagai kendala dalam menggunakan aplikasi pembelajaran daring pada Pelatihan EAP selama masa pandemi COVID-19. Kendalanya utamanya adalah ketersediaan jaringan internet.Abstract:  The current study aims at describing the implementation of Learning Application in the Training of English for Academic Purpose (EAP) in Universitas PGRI Semarang in COVID-19 pandemic era and at identifying the students’ obstacles in using the teaching application in the Training of English for Academic Purpose (EAP) in Universitas PGRI Semarang in the era of COVID-19 pandemic. The approach of the study is a descriptive qualitative research. The population of the study is all participants of the Training of English for Academic Purpose (EAP) in Universitas PGRI Semarang. The instrument used in the study was a questioner. In collecting the data, the writers shared a link of the questioner through WhatsApp Group. The data was analyzed by reducing the data, displaying the data and drawing conclusion. The result of the study shows that there are three applications which have been implemented in Training of English for Academic Purpose (EAP) in Universitas PGRI Semarang in COVID-19 pandemic era, namely Google form, WhatsApp, and iSpring Suite application. The students encountered some problems in using the application in the training. They are mostly due to the availability of internet networking.

Abstract

Abstract. With skyrocketing development of online learning due to the Covid-19 outbreak, pronunciation classroom is one of the evidences that was quite affected by this pandemic situation. The controversial mindset, that this lesson needs literally face-to-face practices since they relate to organ speech's output, leads the authors into this investigation. This paper was aimed at finding out students' response toward the implementation of blended learning in pronunciation classrooms. The research design was descriptive quantitative with the population of 176 fourth semester students of English Education Department of Universitas PGRI Semarang in the academic year of 2019/2020, and 28 students coming from 4A to 4D were taken as the sample. The data were collected online through Google Form using a perception questionnaire and confirmed by phone call interview preceded by classroom observation. The data from the questionnaire were then analyzed quantitatively to determine the level of students' perception supported by descriptive data from the interviews. The results indicated that students' perception toward blended learning in the Pronunciation classroom was in the level of intermediate. Additionally, the interview revealed that the students were satisfied with blended learning implementation in Pronunciation classroom. They preferred online classes which were balanced in terms of assignment-giving and learning material. Too many assignments with fewer materials only burden the students. Therefore, the lecturers were suggested to consider their ability in handling the class, which also interests students in engaging the online classes more.Keywords: blended learning; pronunciation, higher education, students' perceptionAbstrak. Pesatnya perkembangan pembelajaran online akibat dari wabah Covid, kelas pronunciation sebagai salah satu bukti yang cukup terpengaruh oleh situasi pandemi ini. Pola pikir kontroversi, bahwa pelajaran pronunciation benar-benar membutuhkan praktik tatap muka karena berkaitan dengan luaran speech organs, sehingga mengarahkan peneliti ke permasalahan ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui respons mahasiswa terhadap penerapan blended learning di kelas pronunciation. Desain penelitian adalah deskriptif kuantitatif dengan populasi 176 mahasiswa semester IV Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas PGRI Semarang tahun ajaran 2019/2020 dan diambil sampel 28 mahasiswa dari 4A sampai 4D. Pengumpulan data dilakukan secara online melalui google form menggunakan kuesioner persepsi dan dikonfirmasi dengan wawancara melalui telepon yang didahului dengan observasi kelas. Data dari kuesioner dianalisis secara kuantitatf didukung oleh data interview yang dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa persepsi mahasiswa terhadap blended learning di kelas pronunciation berada pada level intermediate. Selain itu, hasil wawancara menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa merasa puas dengan penerapan blended learning di kelas pronunciation. Mereka lebih menyukai kelas online yang seimbang dalam hal pemberian tugas dan materi pembelajaran. Terlalu banyak tugas dengan materi yang lebih sedikit hanya akan membebani mahasiswa. Oleh karena itu, para dosen disarankan untuk mempertimbangkan kemampuannya dalam menangani perkuliahan yang juga menarik minat mahasiswa untuk lebih banyak terlibat dalam kelas online.   Kata kunci: blended learning; pronunciation, pendidikan tinggi, persepsi mahasiswa

Abstract

The study aims to find the right PIESQ Training material model to fit the demands of the time while adhering to the Universitas PGRI Semarang’s identity. The goal of the first year is to identify the perception and impact of training on the quality of student’s Physic, Intellectual, Emotional, and Spiritual (PIES). To achieve its goal, the study employs a research and development approach (Research and Development - R & D). The study will be held at the University of PGRI Semarang with a population of all students of the Universitas PGRI Semarang who have participated in the PIESQ Training and the sample was taken purposive sampling. Overall, students' impressions of the PIESQ Management 3.0 training were positive, according to data analysis results. Despite the small sample size, a few people have complained that the training itself is tedious and boring. There were still a few respondents who said that the materials were out of date.

Abstract

A song is a literary work that can describe a person’s feelings. Many songwriters write the song lyrics according to the feelings they felt at the time. This research aims to (1) classify the types of idiom expressions that were found in song lyrics of the album Positions by Arianna Grande. (2) find out the dominant types of idiom expression found in song lyrics of album Positions by Arianna Grande’s. (3) identify the meaning of idiom expression found in song lyrics of album Positions by Arianna Grande. This research is included in qualitative descriptive research. Researchers have implemented several steps, are a follows: downloading all songs of album Positions from website, searching te scripts lyrics songs, listening to the songs as data for the research been carefully, finding the idiomatic expression in Positions album by Arianna Grande, classifying the idiomatic expression based on the types, finding the idiomatic meanings in Positions album by Arianna Grande. The result of the analysis, the researcher found 16 songs that used the idiomatic expression 22 songs used the types of idiomatic expression phrasal verb. Then, the researcher found 8 songs that used the types of idiomatic expression, preposition verb. In addition, the researcher found 9 songs types of idiomatic expression that used partial idioms. The researcher concluded a percentage: phrasal verb (56.40%), preposition verbs (20.50%), and partial idioms (23.10%). The dominant type of idiomatic expression used in the “Position” album was the phrasal verb type, with the highest percentage of 56.40%.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out what kind of illocutionary act that found in Angelina Jolie’s speech video and what is the frequent type of illocutionary act that used by Angelina Jolie on her speech “Equality for Women”. Descriptive qualitative method was used to investigate and describe Illocutionary Act of Angelina Jolie’s Speech: Equality for Women. The data of this study collected by analyzing the data from the video of Angelina Jolie’s speech entitled “Equality for Women”. From this study the researchers found that there are several kind of illocutionary act that used by Angelina Jolie on her speech such as declarative (3,1%), commissive (14%), directive (9,3%), expressive (18,7%), and representative (54,6%). The most frequent type of illocutionary act that Angelina Jolie used is representative with 35 data (54,6%). From the finding, it can be seen that the most frequent of illocutionary act found in Angelina Jolie speech video “Equality for Woman” was representative type. Angelina as a UN Defense emphasized reports and real facts abot issues and case of gender equality that was happenned around the world. By delivering this speech, Angelina Jolie provided a real overview about gender equality cases and issues. In line with the issues stated by Angelina, she expects that people will be more aware of gender equality and what they can do as a form of their contribution in helping realise the goals of the UN and people can better understand their rights in the future.

Abstract

This final project studied the analysis of the moral values in “Justice Leagu” Movie. This research focused mainly on the moral values found in the movie. The objectives of the study were (1) to find out the moral values found in Justice League Movie, (2) to explore the moral values reflected in main character of Justice League Movie.The design of the research was descriptive qualitative research. The object of the research were script Justice League Movie. The instruments of the study were the data from the script movie. This discussions from prior chapters are to be summarized to achieve the purpose of the study. First, the moral values of being there were peace and ability, self confident and potencially, courage sake and kindness, and the last one is honestly. The second, the moral values of giving were justice and mercy, love and affection, kindness and friendsliness, and the last one is respect.The dominant types of moral values of being use in Justice League movie were peace and ability and selfconfident and potencially that have same percentage that was 35,71%. Second the moral values of giving the dominant was love and affection 75%.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is aimed at developing printed teaching materials with a pragmatic perspective for college students. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative by sharing questionnaire made with google form through the WhatsApp group of two classes. The unit of analysis was the responses of 40 students from 2 classes. This research was based on a qualitative analysis of the students' responses. From the responses, it can be concluded that teaching materials have a very vital role and function in the learning process. Therefore, teaching materials should be designed and developed in such a way that they are adapted to the existing curriculum and also to the needs of students. In this research, researchers will develop an English teaching material with pragmatic perspective which are able to help English learners reach the expected communicative competence. In total, there are five sections that were asked to students. Those five sections are, 1) Textbook availability, 2) Textbook Visual, 3) Textbook Contents, 4) The Textbook Currently Being Used, and 5) Text Selections.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the types of deixis and references used by the main character in the FALL (2022) movie, and to determine the dominant deixis used by the main character in FALL (2022) movie The study employs qualitative methods to gather data from the main character's spoken sentences from the FALL (2022) Movie, which were downloaded from the internet. The study revealed that 608 deixis expressions were utilized. The expression deixis is divided into five types of deixis, namely 424 person deixis, 11 place deixis, 149 time deixis, 21 social deixis, and 3 discourse deixis. The references found in this study are, person deixis found are I, me, my, we, and our as the first person deixis; you and your as second person deixis; it, she, he, him,and they, as third-person deixis; the place deixis found are here, that, these, and this; the time deixis found now,everyday, a weeks ago, morning, today, turn, this weekend, yesterday, night; the social deixis found dad, your mother, my husband, my cherry pie, ; and the last discourse deixis found is that and this. The dominant deixis used by the main character in the FAL (2022) Movie is person deixis.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the fact that there were still many students who experience difficulties in writing and understanding recount text and teachers who apply monotonous or less varied learning methods. The formulation of the problem of this research was whether there was an effect of using Animaker in improving the ability to write recount text in students’ class at XII SMA N 1 Comal? In connection with this, the aim of this research is to find out whether there was an influence of Animaker on the learning outcomes of recount text in class XII SMA N 1 Comal. This study used a quantitative approach. This research used an experimental design consisting of two groups, namely the experimental group and the control group. The population in this study was class XII students of SMA N 1 Comal for the 2023/2024 academic year. The samples from this research were class XII MIPA 1 totaling 36 students and class XII IPA 6 totaling 36 students. This technique in the research was random sampling. Based on the data research results, shows that used Animaker media in writing recount text could improve the ability to write recount text and convey past experiences in written form. Based on data analysis, the Pre-test result in the experimental group was 62.22 while the Post-test was 80.08. In the control group, the Pre-test result was 60.61 while the Post-test result was 70.47. Apart from that, based on the paired sample test table, the result shows a sig (2 tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that there was a difference in the average learning outcomes of students in the Pre-test experimental class and Post-test experimental class used Animaker.
