Abstract

Currently, the most complete measure of community welfare is the happiness index because this measure is based on community subjectivity. This study aims to determine the effect of per capita income, minimum wage, income inequality and gross enrollment rates on the Happiness Index in Indonesia. The research objects are 34 provinces in Indonesia. The data used are secondary data for 2014, 2017 and 2021. The data source is the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics. Using the panel data regression, the results show that per capita income, income inequality, minimum wage and gross enrollment rates together have a significant effect on the happiness index. and partially the per capita income variable has no significant positive effect on the happiness index while income inequality has no significant negative effect on the happiness index, conversely the minimum wage variable and gross enrollment rate have a significant positive effect on the happiness index in Indonesia. In order to increase the happiness index, it is recommended that the provincial government periodically review the minimum wage policy, increase the gross enrollment rate and increase per capita income and reduce income inequality.

Abstract

Purpose: This research explores the challenges and opportunities of integrating a gender perspective into tourism development in the border regions of East Nusa Tenggara (ENT) and Timor Leste. Research Methodology: Using a qualitative approach, this study collected data through literature reviews and stakeholder interviews. Results: The analysis revealed that women face various obstacles to tourism sector development, such as limited access to capital, unequal job opportunities, and societal gender stereotypes. Despite these challenges, there are significant opportunities for women to enhance their participation in the tourism industry, potentially leading to increased wellbeing. Limitations: This study acknowledges limitations, including the scope of qualitative research and the challenges in generalizing findings to broader contexts beyond ENT and Timor Leste. Contributions: Based on these findings, this research proposes tourism development strategies focusing on inclusive gender vocational training programs; enhanced collaboration among government, private sector, and educational institutions; and promoting women's leadership and decision-making roles in tourism management. Novelty: This study highlights the potential for more inclusive tourism development in the ENT-Timor Leste border region, with the aim of providing economic benefits to local communities.

Abstract

The Islamic banking industry in Indonesia has grown significantly, particularly following the 2021 merger that established Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI). However, the level of profitability, as measured by Return on Equity (ROE), remains less than optimal. Within the framework of Financial Intermediation Theory and Maqashid Shariah, financial performance in Islamic banks is influenced not only by conventional financial indicators but also by intangible assets such as Intellectual Capital (IC) and the application of profit- sharing financing systems. This study aims to analyze the effect of IC and Profit-Sharing Ratio on ROE in 13 Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia during the 2021–2024 period. The research applies a quantitative approach using multiple linear regression analysis on secondary data from annual financial reports. IC is measured using the VAIC™ method, while the Profit-Sharing Ratio is calculated from mudharabah and musyarakah financing contracts. The findings show that both IC and the Profit-Sharing Ratio significantly affect ROE, both partially and simultaneously. These results emphasize the strategic role of intellectual capital management and profit-sharing mechanisms in enhancing the profitability and sustainability of Islamic banking. This study contributes to the development of Islamic finance literature and offers practical implications for managerial decision-making in the Islamic banking sector.

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the influence of tourism sector to regional revenue of Malang Raya. In this case, tourism sector used the number of tourist arrival, hotel's room occupancy rate, the number of restaurants, and the sum of PDRB (Gross Regional Domestic Product) during the period of 2006-2016. The secondary panel data from three Local Governments in Malang Raya is analyzed by using fixed effect model of multiple regressions. The result shows that all independent variables simultaneously give significant influence to regional revenue. Partially, the number of tourist arrival and hotel's room occupancy rate give the significant influence to regional revenue. The other two variables, i.e. the number of restaurant and sum of PDRB did not give significant influence. A regression model of 97.76% is generated to predict regional revenue of Malang Raya. The conclusion gives an insight that local governments in Malang Raya should pay more attention to the effort of promoting Malang Raya to encourage tourist to come and stay longer, in order to increase the regional revenue and also to increase the share of the tourism sector to regional revenue. Keywords: Malang Raya, regional revenue, tourism.

Abstract

This study investigated residents' willingness to pay (WTP) for community-based flood mitigation infrastructure through a Malang, Indonesia, case study of the Glintung Go Green (G3) program. This study aimed to identify the key factors influencing WTP and assess the structural and cultural challenges in sustaining such community-based environmental programs. A mixed method approach was applied, combining focus group discussions (FGDs) with quantitative analysis using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results showed that socio-economic factors and personal motivation significantly influenced WTP, with education levels and perceived direct benefits of the program being the most influential indicators. The average WTP value is IDR 37,273 per month, with a median of IDR 50,000, showing promising potential for participatory financing mechanisms. However, the FGD revealed critical barriers, including low ecological literacy, reliance on external funding, limited community leadership regeneration, and lack of documentation for replication. These findings underscore the importance of institutionalizing environmental values, building local capacity, and leveraging digital tools for program transparency and outreach. The study concludes that community-based environmental programs should integrate financial and institutional strategies to improve long-term sustainability and inclusivity. Future research is encouraged to explore broader psychosocial and institutional factors that influence community participation
