Abstract

English language learning in class VIII-B is still perceived as suboptimal, as evidenced by the number of students who are unable to write recount texts accurately. The researcher implemented differentiated learning focused on content for the students. The research aimed to determine how to improve students’ ability to write recount texts through photo media in class VIII-B. The research design included two cycles: Cycle 1 and Cycle 2. The data type used was quantitative, examining in-depth the results of writing recount texts using photo media, drawing conclusions from students’ learning outcomes, observing activities, and collecting responses from students. The students’ learning outcomes in Cycle 1 were 12.0%, with 3 students completing the task and 22 students (88.0%) not completing it. In Cycle 2, 14 students (56.0%) completed the task, indicating a significant improvement due to the use of photo media. Therefore, it can be concluded that differentiated learning through photo media is highly effective in enhancing recount text writing skills, leading to an interactive and creative classroom.

Abstract

The success of rukyatul hilal (moon sighting) is not only influenced by the physical aspects of the hilal (the crescent moon), but also depends on non-physical (non-astronomical) aspects. In the last 5 years, 7 out of 23 locations in East Java have contributed to sighting the hilal while other locations have experienced failures due to various constraints and obstacles. This paper evaluates these locations using geographical and topographical theories to delve into three main questions: the implementation of rukyatul hilal activities in East Java, the influence of geographical and topographical conditions of the locations, and the mapping of rukyatul hilal locations in East Java. Research data were measured and observed directly and indirectly using Google Earth with area sampling and non-probability sampling techniques. Research findings reveal that: first, rukyatul hilal is carried out at the beginning of each Hijri month by most observers at several locations during important months such as Ramadan, Shawwal, and Dhul Hijjah with the naked eye, while other locations use optical aids with low success rates; second, geographically, most rukyatul hilal locations in East Java are located near the equator with the main obstacle being disturbances from fog pollution, dust, clouds, rain, and other atmospheric particles; and third, out of 23 active rukyatul hilal locations in East Java mapped: a) locations categorized as observatories, with two observatories that do not fully contribute to moon observations, b) other hilal observation locations categorized as locations located on the north and south coast, with five locations that do not fully contribute to hilal observations, and c) other hilal observation locations categorized as locations located at high altitudes, with seven locations contributing to the implementation of hilal sighting and three locations dominating the production of hilal visibility more than once.

Abstract

Sambora Village is one of the villages located in Toho District, Mempawah Regency. Sambora Village is inhabited by various tribes, ranging from Dayak, Malay, Madurese, Batak, Javanese, Bugis and Chinese. The activity partners in this PKM are the Sambora Village community, especially fish farmers and the public. Regarding the problems faced by partners, the solution is socialization and training regarding value fish hatcheries in tarpaulin ponds. The output target of this PKM activity is for partners to increase their knowledge and technical skills regarding fish hatcheries using tarpaulin ponds in their yards. The Community Service activities carried out consist of 3 stages, namely stage one is orientation, stage 2 is the implementation of socialization, and the last stage is monitoring and evaluation. At the orientation implementation stage, problems were found related to the need for fish seeds that grow quickly and are easy to adapt to the cultivation environment. The seeds used should come from quality brood stock and locally produced products. Socialization was carried out on the advantages of the fish hatchery method using tarpaulin ponds, comparisons were given with the hatchery method carried out in earthen ponds. Introduction to a type of tilapia fish that has good egg and sperm productivity. Implementation of monitoring and evaluation to provide input on seeding practices that have been carried out by partners and provide input regarding problems faced. After carrying out the three stages of PKM, the results showed that all training participants had increased their knowledge and abilities regarding tilapia fish hatchery. Before the training, 50% already had knowledge about tilapia fish hatcheries, but only 10% knew how to care for tilapia seeds in tarpaulin ponds. After socialization and training, all participants or 100% knew and were able to implement tilapia fish hatchery in tarpaulin ponds.

Abstract

Abstract

The Islamic calendar unification effort has long been undertaken by MABIMS (Ministries of Religious Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore) through new criteria approved in 2019: a minimum crescent height of 3° and a minimum elongation of 6.4°. Since 2021, Indonesia and Malaysia have both adopted these criteria in their respective Islamic calendars, although the implementation stages differ between the two countries. This is due to challenges, particularly related to weather conditions, crescent observation technology, and human resource capacity. This paper aims to explore regulatory policies related to the implementation of the new MABIMS criteria, including analyzing the dynamics of their implementation. Data were collected and analyzed qualitatively using a deductive-inductive thinking model and a phenomenological approach. This study found that Indonesia and Malaysia have shown a strong commitment to implementing the MABIMS criteria in their respective Hijri calendars. Still, the Indonesian Government establishes a policy for the beginning of the Hijri month with a moderation paradigm because it must involve mass organizations and local wisdom values. In contrast, the Malaysian Government establishes a policy centrally, uniformly and institutionally through the JAKIM authority. In addition, the Indonesian Government integrates the hisāb and rukyat methods in a decentralized manner so that sometimes there are differences in determining the beginning of the month of Ramadan, Shawwal and Dzulhijjah in the Community. While the Malaysian Government applies it centrally, uniformly and applies to all states. In addition, Indonesian Muslim citizens accept the Government's determination, although with differences in determining the date, while Malaysian Muslims accept the Government's determination simultaneously and uniformly across all states
