Abstract

Cerpen Kuntowijoyo selama tiga tahun berturut-turut memperoleh predikat “Cerpen Terbaik Kompas”, tahun 1995 dengan cerpen “Laki-Laki yang Kawin dengan Peri”, tahun 1996 dengan cerpen “Pistol Perdamaian”, dan tahun 1997 dengan cerpen “Anjing-Anjing Menyerbu Kuburan”. Ketiga cerpen itu kemudian dihimpun dalam kumpulan cerpen yang diberi judul Hampir Sebuah Subversi (Kuntowijoyo, 1999). Kriteria pemilihan terbaik itu bukan tanpa alasan. Ketiganya memakai gaya bahasa yang bersahaja. Unsur permainan dan bermain-mainnya dengan kata tidak terlalu kentara. Hal ini sangat membantu kemungkinan terbangunnya seni wantah oleh Kuntowijoyo. Dalam “Pengantar Penulis”, Kuntowijoyo menulis, “Secara jujur harus dikatakan bahwa saya menulis begitu saja, yang saya rasa baik, tanpa resep-resep” (1999: xii). Kuntowijoyo hampir selalu menggunakan ciri simbolis dalam karya-karyanya, dan berusaha mengangkat realitas kehidupan ke dalam cerita yang tampaknya biasa. Judul-judul cerpennya telah menyiratkan tema yang diangkat ke dalam karya-karyanya. Namun, judul-judul itu pun simbolis sehingga mengandung pemaknaan yang sangat dalam, begitu juga cerpen “Rumah Yang Terbakar” yang terdapat dalam kumpulan cerpen Hampir Sebuah Subversi. Cerpen “Rumah Yang terbakar” sebagai salah satu cerpen pilihan Kompas yang dibukukan bersama 24 cerpen lainnya selama 1994 - 1998 sangat sarat dengan unsur simbolisasi. Namun, semuanya itu merupakan representasi dari potret masyarakat Indonesia masa Orde Baru yang berhasil digambarkan oleh Kuntowijoyo. Secara simbolis pula makna yang dikandungnya dikemas dalam gaya bahasa yang sederhana, menarik, pas, dan enak dibaca.

Abstract

"> AbstractThis study aims to determine the meaning of priyayi and its shift in Umar Kayam’s Para Priyayi. The theoryused in this study is the theory of hegemony Gramsci. The method used is descriptive and analytical methods. Descriptivemethod is used to describe the social aspects of novel Para Priyayi, while analytical methods is used to analyze novel ParaPriyayi combining hegemony Gramsci. Para Priyayi containing values and meanings shift of Javanese noble. In addition,the values infiltrated by the author; Umar Kayam as humanists, academics, writers, the Javanese, also gives hiss own view.The emergence of multiple views, of course, establishes and leads a fight existing value of each character in the story. Theprocess happen allegedly contained negotiation among values. It is seen in moving process of humble class toward nobleclass. The process of negotiation among characters is represented in figures Sastrodarsono and Lantip or the fights amongpeople in noble class their self. Such processes continue to be made to reach consensus and truth together.Keywords: priyayi, the humble, the transformation of values, concencuss, negotiation, and hegemonic analysis

Abstract

This study is aimed at discussing The Naked Traveler 1 Year Round-The World Trip written by Trinity using literary theory about travelling proposed by Carl Thompson. The goal is to get more obvious depiction about the world as described by the author. This research uses qualitative method with descriptive data in forms of written and spoken words by subjects observed alongwith their observable behaviour. This research also uses analytic descriptive method by describing facts observed and followed by analysis. Analysis is conducted through sufficient elaboration and explanation. The result shows that The Naked Traveler 1 Year Round-The World Trip contains Trinity’s daily notes when travelling in Southern American countries. His writing contains elements of adventure by direct observation to the life of society in 9 countries: Brazil, Chille, Peru, Equador, Colombia, Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico and Guatemala, where he lives with local people and makes journey to world’s exotic tourism spots. Besides, the visited places are described in a subjective way, due to the close and near visibility having influence on the author. Abstract

Various kinds of ways to criticize gender inequality and women received a patriarchal culture, onethrough literary works. In Sali: Kisah Seorang Wanita Suku Dani (SKSWSD) an ethnographic novel,the author tried to criticize the gender inequality that is represented by women figures in the story so asto form the image of Dani women. This ethnographic novel SKSWSD background during the monetarycrisis, the conditions of civilization and progress began to enter and thrive in Wamena. At that time,there is still growing strong patriarchal culture in the Dani. Dani women live a hard life in the midst ofa patriarchal system. Dani women's double burden as indigenous actors, namely taking care ofdomestic and earn a living.

Abstract

This paper discusses the objectification of women in five Indonesian folklore, i.e. “Putri yang BerubahMenjadi Ular” (North Sumatra), “Putri Mambang Linau” (Riau), “Putri Tujuh” (Riau) , “Ning Rangda”(South Kalimantan), and “Dewi Luing Indung Bunga” (South Kalimantan). The discussion concernsthe explanation of the objectification of women and the objectification of women in the form of fiveIndonesian folklore that. In essence, objectification of women is triggered by the presence of apatriarchal culture that put men as sex first (first sex) and women as the second sex (second sex). Thishas implications for the positioning of men and women as active subjects as passive object. Theconstruction appearing and embedded in social and cultural life , and there are also in the literature.Oneof its example is in the folklore.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify the elements of language style found on Top Coffee product advertisements. This study also aims to describe the meaning and function of the language style used in the advertisement as a representation of love for local products. In addition to linguistic factors, this study also identifies the symbolic meanings contained in advertising posters. This research is descriptive qualitative. The data collection technique was carried out by observing and taking notes on Top Coffee's product advertisements in print and television media. The data obtained were then analyzed using a stylistic approach, to analyze linguistic factors, and semiotics to analyze the visual elements in advertising posters. The results of this study indicate that the three advertisements for Top Coffee products use a conversational style based on word choice; simple language style and noble and powerful language style based on tone; anticlimactic, parallelism, and climax based on sentence structure; synecdoche, metaphor, metonymy, and hyperbole based on whether or not the meaning is direct. Meanwhile, advertising visualization includes typography, advertisement stars, logos, product displays, colors and patterns, batik motif fibers that represent local products and their love for them. This advertisement uses the spirit of nationalism that is built from its consumers as a tool to promote its products through the style of language and symbols contained in the poster.Tujuan penelitian ini ialah mengidentifikasi unsur gaya bahasa yang terdapat dalam iklan produk Top Coffee. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan mendeskripsikan makna dan fungsi gaya bahasa yang digunakan dalam iklan tersebut sebagai representasi kecintaan terhadap produk lokal. Selain faktor kebahasaan, penelitian ini juga mengidentifikasi makna-makna simbolis yang terdapat pada poster iklan. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif-kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik simak dan catat terhadap iklan produk Top Coffee di media cetak dan televisi. Data-data yang didapatkan kemudian dianalisis menggunakan pendekatan stilistika untuk mengetahui faktor kebahasaan dan teori semiotika untuk menganalisis unsur-unsur visual pada poster iklan. Dari hasil penelitian ini, ditunjukkan bahwa tiga iklan produk Top Coffee menggunakan gaya bahasa percakapan sebagai berikut: (1) berdasarkan pilihan kata: gaya bahasa sederhana, gaya bahasa mulia, dan gaya bahasa bertenaga; (2) berdasarkan nada: antiklimaks, paralelisme, dan klimaks; (3) berdasarkan struktur kalimat: sinekdoke, metafora, metonimia, dan hiperbola; dan (4) berdasarkan langsung tidaknya makna. Sementara itu, visualisasi iklan meliputi tipogafi, bintang iklan, logo, tampilan produk, warna dan corak, serta serat motif batik yang merepresentasikan produk lokal dan kecintaan terhadapnya. Iklan ini menggunakan semangat nasionalisme yang dibangun dari minat konsumen sebagai alat untuk mempromosikan produknya melalui gaya bahasa dan simbol-simbol yang terdapat pada posternya.

Abstract

The use of appropriate language by speakers has been proven to be able to convey messages clearly to the speech partners that they want, and it can even further change the behavior of the speech partners. This can be exemplified by the use of persuasive language in outdoor media. In order to get considerable attention, outdoor media installation is usually installed in a strategic location. The billboards that are installed, for example, are designed to be large and permanently installed within a certain period of time. The information displayed in billboards is arranged with the right diction, special sentence structure, and has a strong persuasive impact supported by an attractive design. Unfortunately, not all community members have the ability to make representative billboards. Community service activities in Nyangkringan village are aimed to develop two abilities, namely the ability to use language effectively and also to design attractive and informative-persuasive billboards. After receiving adequate guidance, the community service activity participants have been able to create billboards that are memorable and informative-persuasive. The installation of billboards at a later stage of the project indicates a significant change in behavior due to increased public awareness of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is hoped that with the abilities that they already have, in the future, the community service participants can make the necessary outdoor media according to their designation.====Pemakaian bahasa penutur secara tepat telah terbukti dapat menyampaikan pesan dengan jelas kepada mitra tutur yang dikehendakinya, bahkan lebih jauh lagi dapat mengubah perilaku mitra tutur. Hal ini dapat dicontohkan dengan pemakaian bahasa persuasif di media luar ruang. Agar dapat memperoleh perhatian yang cukup besar pemasangan media luar ruang biasanya dilakukan di lokasi yang strategis. Baliho yang dipasang, misalnya, didesain berukuran besar dan dipasang secara permanen dalam rentang waktu tertentu. Informasi yang dipajang di dalam baliho disusun dengan diksi yang tepat, struktur kalimat khusus, dan berdampak persuasif yang kuat didukung dengan desain yang menarik. Sayangnya, tidak semua anggota masyarakat memiliki kemampuan membuat baliho yang representatif. Aktivitas pengabdian kepada masyarakat di Dusun Nyangkringan kali ini ditujukan untuk mengembangkan dua kemampuan, yakni kemampuan menggunakan bahasa secara efektif dan mendesain baliho yang menarik dan informatif-persuasif. Setelah mendapat bimbingan yang memadai, peserta kegiatan pengabdian dapat mewujudkan baliho yang mengesankan dan informatif-persuasif. Pemasangan baliho pada tahap selanjutnya mengindikasikan perubahan perilaku yang signifikan atas meningkatnya kesadaran masyarakat terhadap pandemi Covid-19. Diharapkan dengan kemampuan yang telah dimiliki pada masa depan, para peserta pengabdian dapat membuat media luar ruang yang diperlukan sesuai dengan peruntukannya.

Abstract

This study aims to provide sympathetic insight for who are interested in short stories in Indonesia through the perspective of Linda Hutcheon historical postmodernism. Through this research, we can find a description of story facts and the ideas of the author that are realized through the center and the periphery, along with the contextualization aspects of the short story A.A. Navis’ Robohnya Surau Kami to nowadays society. This research also contributes to literary works appreciation to educational institutions, academics, the society of literary enthusiasts, and the wider community in the form of short story research with the perspective of Linda Hutcheon’s postmodernism so that it is expected to increase the quantity of practice in postmodernism studies. The methodology used in the short story Robohnya Surau Kami using Linda Hutcheon's postmodernist theory is a descriptive method of analysis, by describing the facts which are then analyzed. The analysis does not merely describe but also gives sufficient understanding and explanation. Robohnya Surau Kami by A. A. Navis is a monumental work A. A. Navis containing religious elements. In his work, A. A. Navis presents inner experiences about the concept of the religious life of small communities in Indonesia. This short story is an outstanding and popular work as it is considered as a rare religious literature; AA Navis does not merely tell about worship and devotion to God, but also humanitarian values in Indonesia loaded with caring and tolerance so that it is necessary to trace the facts of the story in the short story, identify the center and the periphery that triggers conflict, and the implications of its contextualization of society in the present.

Abstract

Teaching Indonesian as a curriculum compulsory subject (MKWK) in university implies some challenges, considering the teaching is intended for students who have yet to study language theoretically and conceptually formally. This research is reflectively aimed at describing teaching challenges and possibilities. Methodologically, this study involved the researcher as an Indonesian language teacher in a university using a reflective-introspective way to gather data based on his experience. The results of this study are as follows: The students have various scientific backgrounds that are substantially and culturally different. Conditionally, they do not study Indonesian historically, culturally, theoretically, and methodologically. This implies that the orientation of teaching Indonesian needs to be formulated. Indonesian as MKWK is taught functionally for language purposes in higher education. Language as a signifying medium becomes a verbal or oral communication tool to disseminate knowledge. Thus, the teaching materials are also adjusted elementary to the scientific background of each student. This allows the establishment of relations between Indonesian as a subject and other disciplines. Thus, awareness of this aspect of teaching makes it possible to place Indonesians not as "additional" but as "significant" learning in universities.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkap penggambaran manusia, ritual pesugihan, serta motif ekonomi dan politik dalam cerpen “Anjing-Anjing Menyerbu Kuburan” karya Kuntowijoyo. Penelitian stilistika ini bersifat deskriptif kualitatif interpretatif. Data penelitian ini diperoleh dengan teknik simak-catat dan studi pustaka terhadap teks-teks sosial dan kultural. Analisis data dilakukan dengan pembacaan hermeneutik. Hasil penelitian menemukan adanya beragam gaya bahasa, yaitu personifikasi, metonimia, epitet, simile, tautotes, epizeuksis, pleonasme, perifrasis, hipalase, paradoks, apostrof, hiperbola, polisindeton, dan asindeton. Ekonomi dan politik sebagai motif ritual digambarkan dengan simbolisme, oksimoron, epizeuksis, dan metafora. Melalui gaya bahasa, tokoh utama digambarkan sebagai manusia desa yang hidup di perdesaan. Lingkungan desa digambarkan secara partikular dan panoramik pada suasana malam yang dingin. Pelaksanaan ritual perjalanan menuju kuburan, penyebaran beras kuning, penggalian kuburan, dan semadi di hutan. Namun, ritual tersebut gagal karena kehadiran ajing-anjing. Ritual pesugihan dilakukan karena motif ekonomi, yaitu kemiskinan, harga diri, dan martabat, serta motif politik, yaitu resistansi terhadap dominasi kota, relasi patron-klien, dan relasi kuasa. Dalam penggambaran itulah pengarang memakai berbagai gaya bahasa untuk merepresentasikan keindahan bentuk dan memaknai isi.
