Abstract

Although the material on My Regional Cultural Heritage has an important role in strengthening students’ understanding of local cultural identity, the use of less varied instructional media still results in low student interest and active participation in the learning process. This study aims to develop gamification-based HISTO-LADDER instructional media for the My Regional Cultural Heritage material for fifth-grade elementary school students and to determine its level of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. This study used a Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research participants consisted of media experts, material experts, fifth-grade teachers, and fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 1 Klagen. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and tests, and were then analyzed to determine the level of media validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The results showed that the HISTO-LADDER media obtained an average validity percentage of 86.85%, categorized as very valid, and an average practicality percentage of 86%, categorized as very practical. The effectiveness test results showed an improvement in students’ learning outcomes, as indicated by an increase in the mean pre-test score from 57.9 to 75.8 in the post-test and the results of the Paired Sample T-test with a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05). These findings indicate that gamification-based HISTO-LADDER media are feasible for use as innovative instructional media for the My Regional Cultural Heritage material. The conclusion of this study affirms that HISTO-LADDER media are very valid, very practical, and effective in improving students’ learning outcomes. The implications of this study provide alternative instructional media that are more engaging, interactive, and contextual for elementary school teachers in supporting local culture-based learning.

Abstract

Instructional media play an important role in helping elementary school students understand abstract concepts through concrete and contextual learning experiences. However, instruction on needs and wants remains dominated by lecture methods and textbook use, resulting in low student engagement and suboptimal learning outcomes. This study aims to develop KARPERA (Budget Planning Cards) instructional media and analyze its validity, practicality, and effectiveness in improving the learning outcomes of fourth-grade elementary school students. The study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which comprises the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The research subjects were fourth-grade students at SDN Bandar Lor 3, Kediri City. Data were collected through interviews, observations, documentation, validation questionnaires, response questionnaires, and learning outcome tests. The findings indicate that KARPERA media met the validity criteria based on expert assessments, was practical based on teacher and student responses, and was effective in improving learning outcomes on the topic of needs and wants. This study concludes that KARPERA media is suitable for use as an innovative instructional medium that supports contextual learning. These findings provide a practical contribution for teachers in delivering more active and concrete learning and support the development of financial literacy among elementary school students from an early age.

Abstract

Although digital instructional media have been widely developed for various subjects in elementary schools, the development of a Digital Pop-Up Book specifically containing material on the human circulatory system and evaluated in terms of validity, practicality, and effectiveness remains limited. This study aims to develop and analyze the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of Digital Pop-Up Book media on the human circulatory system for fifth-grade elementary school students. The study employed a quantitative approach using the Research and Development (R&D) method and the ADDIE model, which comprises the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The study involved 21 fifth-grade students at SDN Bandar Lor 3, Kediri City, one fifth-grade teacher, and media and subject-matter expert validators. Data were collected through observations, interviews, validation questionnaires, teacher and student response questionnaires, and learning outcome tests in the form of a pre-test and post-test. Validity and practicality data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis, whereas the effectiveness of the media was analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test with the assistance of SPSS version 25. The findings indicate that the Digital Pop-Up Book media achieved a validity level of 97%, placing it in the highly valid category. The practicality level reached 98% based on teacher responses and 98.7% based on student responses, both of which were classified as highly practical. The Wilcoxon test yielded a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that the use of the media was effective in improving students’ learning outcomes. This study confirms that Digital Pop-Up Book media is suitable for use in teaching the human circulatory system.
