Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of Interactive Flat Panel learning media in improving elementary school students’ engagement in Salawati District, Sorong Regency. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The study was conducted in three elementary schools, namely SD Inpres 34 Sorong Regency, SD Inpres 46 Sorong Regency, and SD Inpres 20 Sorong Regency. The data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving principals, teachers, and students as data sources. The data analysis techniques consisted of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by source triangulation and technique triangulation. The findings show that the implementation of Interactive Flat Panel was carried out through three stages: lesson planning, lesson implementation, and learning evaluation. In the planning stage, teachers prepared teaching modules, visual media, learning videos, and interactive quizzes. In the implementation stage, teachers utilized IFP features to present learning materials in a more attractive, interactive, and collaborative way. In the evaluation stage, teachers used question-and-answer activities, digital quizzes, reflection, and formative assessment. The use of Interactive Flat Panel was found to improve students’ engagement, as indicated by their increased willingness to ask questions, answer questions, participate in group discussions, express opinions, maintain learning focus, and demonstrate self-confidence during learning activities. Supporting factors in the implementation of IFP included the availability of devices, principal support, teacher competence, access to electricity and internet, and students’ enthusiasm. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors included limited internet access, varied teacher competence, limited digital learning materials, and technical problems with the device. Therefore, Interactive Flat Panel can serve as an effective interactive learning medium to create active, engaging, and student-centered learning.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Upper respiratory tract infections (URTI) in young children remain a public health issue worldwide. In September 2025, it was reported that more than 50% of students were experiencing URTI symptoms such as coughing, fever, the flu, and others; as a result, school officials decided to conduct online instruction to break the chain of URTI transmission at the school. This community service activity aims to improve teachers’ literacy and provide students with experience regarding URIs and their prevention using the Digi-ISPA-Kit, as well as to implement digital attendance tracking for monitoring student health at school. A pre-experimental design (one-group pre-post) was used to measure teachers’ knowledge levels. The educational activities for teachers involved 12 teachers; improvements in teachers’ knowledge were measured using pre-post assessments and analyzed with the Wilcoxon test. Measurement of students’ knowledge was conducted solely by assessing their ability to identify ARI symptoms and illustrate the human respiratory system. The results showed a significant increase in teachers’ knowledge of ARI (p = 0.003); in addition, teachers were also able to complete the digital attendance system. Students enthusiastically participated in the community service activities and were able to list the symptoms of ARI and identify the human respiratory system; they were also able to practice proper handwashing techniques. Interventions using interactive methods and simple technology can address the lack of knowledge among teachers and students regarding acute respiratory infections (ARIs) and the absence of a symptom-based digital attendance system. This initiative has the potential to be implemented on an ongoing basis through the school’s commitment and continuous teacher support, supplemented by the enrichment of digital content and the integration of health-related material into the learning process; furthermore, this initiative can be replicated in other schools. Keywords: Education on Acute Respiratory Infections, Early Childhood, Digital Attendance.
