Abstract

Natural disasters, such as landslides, can cause significant psychological impacts, such as anxiety. Anxiety is a mental disorder characterized by feelings of fear, worry, restlessness, and physical symptoms such as increased blood pressure, trembling, and headaches. This study aims to identify the factors that influence the level of anxiety among communities in landslide-prone areas, particularly in the Parongpong District, West Bandung Regency. The study uses a quantitative correlational method with a cross-sectional approach. The research population consists of the community in Parongpong District, with a sample of 70 individuals selected using purposive sampling techniques. The variables analyzed include age, gender, educational background, experience of being affected by a disaster, disaster training, and length of residence. The analysis of 70 respondents with diverse characteristics (26 males and 44 females) shows that most respondents experience mild anxiety, with an average score of 6 on the GAD-7 scale. Of the respondents, 49 (70%) experienced mild anxiety, 16 (22.8%) experienced moderate anxiety, 1 (1.4%) experienced severe anxiety, and 4 (5.7%) did not experience anxiety. Factors such as age, gender, educational background, experience of being affected by a disaster, disaster training, and length of residence did not show a significant relationship with the level of anxiety (p > 0.05). These findings are consistent with previous research that shows the psychosocial impacts of landslides, but with relatively low anxiety levels in the Parongpong District. This study recommends the integration of mental health programs into disaster mitigation policies and an increase in community preparedness. A holistic approach involving the government, health workers, and the community is needed to build resilience against disasters, not only physically but also psychologically.

Abstract

The nursing education and clinical placement programs, along with healthcare systems globally, have been substantially affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. This study explores the emotional experiences and response strategies of nursing students during clinical placement amidst the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Fourteen nursing students in their final year participated in the study. The study identified two main themes and associated subthemes: emotional responses (including fear, anxiety, uncertainty, and confidence) and coping strategies (including maintaining physical health, adhering to safety protocols, maintaining a positive outlook, nurturing spiritual well-being, and building self-confidence). The emotional responses highlight the challenges faced by nursing students during clinical placement, particularly fear and anxiety about contracting the virus, uncertainty, and confusion. However, some students also felt confident in their ability to navigate the challenges of clinical placement and had a sense of duty and purpose in serving their patients during the pandemic. Coping strategies employed by nursing students included maintaining physical health, adhering to safety protocols, maintaining a positive outlook, nurturing spiritual well-being, and building self-confidence. The study underscores the importance of recognizing and addressing the emotional impact of the pandemic on nursing students and the need for effective support mechanisms to help them cope with the challenges of clinical practice. Educational programs that promote mental health and well-being and practical training on infection control and safety protocols can help nursing students cope with the challenges of clinical placement during pandemics.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: caring merupakan pokok dan fondasi dari profesi keperawatan. Untuk dapat membangun perilaku caring maka perlu dibentuk sedari dini guna meningkatkan kompetensi mahasiswa keperawatan dalam menjalankan asuhan keperawatan. Faktanya, beberapa studi menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa perawat memiliki tingkat kepedulian yang rendah. Tujuan: penelitian memiliki tujuan untuk mengidentifikasi perilaku caring mahasiswa keperawatan di UNAI. Metode: penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari mahasiswa S1 dan D3 keperawatan dari tingkat 1 hingga 4 di Universitas Advent Indonesia. Sebanyak 229 responden terlibat dalam penelitian ini, dipilih melalui metode purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah Caring Behavior Inventory 42 yang dikembangkan oleh Wolf (CBI-42). Hasil: analisa menunjukkan bahwa berdasarkan ke lima kategori Wolf , Professional Knowledge and Skill mendapat rata-rata tertinggi sebagai mahasiswa terhadap perilaku caring (3.700 ± 0.3669) dan yang terendah pada kategori Attentiveness To The Other's Experience (3.539 ± 0.3806). Tingkat perilaku caring mahasiwa keperawatan berdasarkan masing-masing karakteristik seperti jenis kelamin, usia, tingkat pendidikan, tingkat jurusan dan status anak pertama, kedua dan ketiga menunjukkan tinggi peduli yang tinggi. Kesimpulan: baik tingkat peduli mahasiswa keperawatan terhadap 5 aspek caring Wolf dan berdasarkan tiap karakteristik responden dalam kategori caring yang tergolong tinggi karena memiliki mean lebih dari nilai median (Me =2,5). Dengan mempertimbangkan dampak yang signifikan dari perilaku caring tersebut, disarankan kepada semua mahasiswa untuk terus mempertahankan dan meningkatkan perilaku caring mereka. Hal ini bertujuan agar perilaku caring yang mereka tunjukkan selama menjalani praktik maupun dalam ranah pekerjaan nantinya dapat memberikan kepuasan kepada masyarakat. Selanjutnya, diharapkan bahwa gambaran tentang perilaku caring mahasiswa ini dapat menjadi acuan bagi lembaga pendidikan dalam merancang kurikulum pembelajaran dan kompetensi sehingga dapat meningkatkan kualitas pelayanan kepada pasien. Introduction: caring is the core and foundation of the nursing profession. to be able to build caring behavior, it needs to be formed early in order to improve the competence of nursing students in carrying out nursing care. In fact, some studies show that nursing students have low levels of caring. Objective: The study aimed to identify the caring behavior of nursing students at UNAI. Methods: This study used a quantitative descriptive approach. The research subjects consisted of S1 and D3 nursing students from level 1 to 4 at Universitas Advent Indonesia. A total of 229 respondents were involved in this study, selected through purposive sampling method. The instrument used was the Caring Behavior Inventory 42 developed by Wolf (CBI-42). Results: The analysis shows that based on Wolf's five categories, Professional Knowledge and Skill gets the highest average as a student towards caring behavior (3.700 ± 0.3669) and the lowest in the Attentiveness To The Other's Experience category (3.539 ± 0.3806). The level of caring behavior of nursing students based on each characteristic such as gender, age, education level, major level and the status of the first, second and third child shows a high level of caring. Conclusion: both the level of caring of nursing students towards Wolf's 5 aspects of caring and based on each respondent's characteristics in the caring category which is classified as high because it has a mean of more than the median value (Me = 2.5). Considering the significant impact of caring behavior, it is recommended that all students continue to maintain and improve their caring behavior. This is so that the caring behavior they show during practice and in the realm of work can later provide satisfaction to the community. Furthermore, it is hoped that this description of student caring behavior can be a reference for educational institutions in designing learning curricula and competencies so as to improve the quality of service to patients. Abstract

Palliative care, as an approach that enhances the quality of life for patients with life-threatening diseases, requires deep understanding and a positive attitude from nursing students. It prevents and alleviates suffering through early identification, assessment and appropriate treatment of pain and other problems, whether physical, psychosocial or spiritual. This study aims to examine the relationship between the knowledge and attitudes of nursing students towards palliative care. The method used is a cross-sectional descriptive design with a sample of nursing students from Universitas Advent Indonesia. This study involved 93 respondents selected through convenience sampling technique. The instruments used are the validated Palliative Care Quiz for Nursing (PCQN) and Frommelt Attitudes Towards Care of the Dying (FATCOD) questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and chi-square test with SPSS version 26. The results show that the majority of students have good knowledge of palliative care and a positive attitude towards end-of-life care. Bivariate analysis reveals a significant relationship between knowledge and attitudes towards palliative care (p=0.012). These findings affirm the importance of integrating palliative care education into the nursing curriculum to prepare nurses with adequate knowledge and positive attitudes. This study has implications for nursing education in enhancing the quality of palliative care education and suggests further research with a broader sample to generalize the results. Perawatan paliatif, sebagai pendekatan yang meningkatkan kualitas hidup pasien dengan penyakit yang mengancam kehidupan, memerlukan pemahaman mendalam dan sikap positif dari calon perawat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji hubungan antara pengetahuan dan sikap mahasiswa keperawatan terhadap perawatan paliatif. Metode yang digunakan adalah desain deskriptif cross-sectional dengan sampel mahasiswa keperawatan dari Universitas Advent Indonesia. Penelitian ini melibatkan 93 responden yang dipilih melalui teknik convenience sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah kuesioner Palliative Care Quiz for Nursing (PCQN) dan Frommelt Attitudes Towards Care of the Dying (FATCOD) yang telah divalidasi. Analisis data dilakukan dengan statistik deskriptif dan uji chi square menggunakan SPSS versi 26. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya integrasi pendidikan perawatan paliatif dalam kurikulum keperawatan untuk mempersiapkan perawat dengan pengetahuan yang memadai dan sikap yang positif. Penelitian ini memberikan implikasi bagi pendidikan keperawatan dalam meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan perawatan paliatif, serta menyarankan penelitian lebih lanjut dengan sampel yang lebih luas untuk menggeneralisasi hasil.

Abstract

Nursing students' preparedness to respond to disasters is a key element in disaster management. This study aims to evaluate the disaster preparedness perception among nursing students at Advent Indonesia University in disaster management. Employing a descriptive quantitative design, this research utilized the Disaster Preparedness Evaluation Tool (DPET) section on Disaster Preparedness Perception. The respondents consisted of 101 nursing students from Advent Indonesia University, selected using convenience sampling technique. The study's findings indicate that the disaster preparedness perception level is in the moderate category, with an average score of 3.65. Students displayed high interest in disaster preparedness education but had limited access to practical resources and information. In terms of preparedness skills, students showed a good understanding of triage principles in disaster situations but lacked confidence in taking on leadership roles during disasters. Family preparedness for disasters revealed that most students had taken proactive steps, indicating effective communication and planning among family members. There is a need to develop the disaster education curriculum in nursing with practical elements such as disaster simulations and structured leadership training. This aims to enhance awareness and readiness among students in facing disasters. Further research is recommended to evaluate training modules that align with the context of disaster preparedness. Nursing students at Universitas Advent Indonesia generally have a moderate level of perceived disaster preparedness. This indicates that while students have demonstrated awareness and understanding of disaster preparedness through training and education, there is still a need to improve the practical aspects and application of this knowledge in real situations. Kesiapsiagaan mahasiswa keperawatan untuk merespons bencana adalah elemen kunci dalam penanggulangan bencana. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi persepsi kesiapsiagaan mahasiswa keperawatan di Universitas Advent Indonesia dalam penanggulangan bencana. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain deskriptif kuantitatif dengan menggunakan kuesioner Disaster Preparedness Evaluation Tool (DPET) bagian Persepsi Kesiapsiagaan Bencana. Responden berjumlah 101 mahasiswa keperawatan Universitas Advent Indonesia yang dipiilih dengan menggunakan teknik convenience sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa tingkat persepsi kesiapsiagaan bencana berada pada kategori sedang dengan nilai rata-rata sebesar 3,65. Mahasiswa menunjukkan ketertarikan yang tinggi terhadap pendidikan kesiapsiagaan bencana, namun memiliki akses terbatas ke sumber daya dan informasi praktis. Dalam hal keterampilan kesiapsiagaan, mahasiswa menunjukkan pemahaman yang baik tentang prinsip-prinsip triase dalam situasi bencana, tetapi kurang percaya diri dalam mengambil peran kepemimpinan saat bencana. Persiapan keluarga untuk bencana menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa telah mengambil langkah proaktif, dengan indikasi adanya komunikasi dan perencanaan yang efektif antar anggota keluarga. Kurikulum pembelajaran bencana pada keperawatan perlu dikembangkan dengan elemen praktis seperti simulasi bencana dan pelatihan kepemimpinan. Hal ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran dan kesiapan mahasiswa dalam menghadapi bencana. Disarankan penelitian lanjutan untuk mengevaluasi modul pelatihan yang sesuai dengan konteks kesiapsiagaan bencana.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara dukungan keluarga dengan tingkat stres mahasiswa program DIII Keperawatan Universitas Advent Surya Nusantara dalam penyusunan karya tulis ilmiah. Studi ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan desain cross-sectional dan melibatkan 47 mahasiswa tingkat akhir sebagai responden yang dipilih menggunakan teknik total sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner Perceived Social Support from Family (PSS-Fa) untuk mengukur dukungan keluarga dan Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) untuk mengukur tingkat stres mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas mahasiswa (83%) mendapatkan dukungan keluarga yang baik, sementara 17% lainnya melaporkan dukungan keluarga yang kurang baik. Sebagian besar mahasiswa mengalami tingkat stres sedang (51%) dan tinggi (40%), sedangkan hanya 9% yang mengalami stres rendah. Analisis statistik bivariat menggunakan uji Pearson Chi-Square menunjukkan adanya hubungan yang signifikan antara dukungan keluarga dan tingkat stres mahasiswa, semakin tinggi dukungan keluarga, semakin rendah tingkat stres yang dialami mahasiswa. Namun, penelitian ini juga menyoroti bahwa selain dukungan keluarga, faktor lain seperti tekanan akademik, lingkungan sosial, dan kesiapan individu turut berkontribusi terhadap tingkat stres mahasiswa. Peneliti selanjutnya dapat menggali lebih dalam mengenai variabel lain yang turut memengaruhi tingkat stres mahasiswa, seperti faktor kepribadian, manajemen waktu, atau dukungan sosial dari teman sejawat. This study aims to analyze the relationship between family support and stress levels among students in the Diploma III Nursing Program at Universitas Advent Surya Nusantara during the process of writing scientific papers. The study employs a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design and involves 47 final-year students as respondents, selected using the total sampling technique. Data were collected through the Perceived Social Support from Family (PSS-Fa) questionnaire to measure family support and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) to assess student stress levels. The results indicate that the majority of students (83%) received good family support, while 17% reported inadequate support. Most students experienced moderate (51%) and high (40%) stress levels, while only 9% had low stress levels. A bivariate statistical analysis using the Pearson Chi-Square test revealed a significant relationship between family support and student stress levels. It means that the higher the family support, the lower the stress levels experienced by students. However, this study also highlights that, in addition to family support, other factors such as academic pressure, social environment, and individual readiness contribute to student stress levels. The next researchers could explore other variables that may influence students' stress levels, such as personality factors, time management, or social support from peers.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi motivasi, pengalaman, dan tantangan yang dihadapi mahasiswa laki-laki dalam memilih dan menjalani pendidikan keperawatan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain fenomenologi deskriptif. Lima partisipan dari program Sarjana dan Diploma III Keperawatan di Universitas Advent Indonesia dipilih secara purposif. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara semi-terstruktur dan dianalisis menggunakan tujuh langkah metode Colaizzi. Hasil penelitian menghasilkan tiga tema utama: (1) motivasi mahasiswa laki-laki memilih jurusan keperawatan, (2) pengalaman mahasiswa laki-laki dalam praktik dan pembelajaran keperawatan, dan (3) tantangan yang dihadapi selama menempuh pendidikan keperawatan. Temuan ini diharapkan dapat menjadi dasar pengembangan dukungan akademik dan sosial yang lebih inklusif bagi mahasiswa laki-laki di bidang keperawatan. This study aims to explore the motivations, experiences, and challenges faced by male nursing students in choosing and undergoing nursing education. A qualitative approach with a descriptive phenomenological design was used. Five participants from the Bachelor and Diploma III Nursing programs at Universitas Advent Indonesia were selected purposively. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Colaizzi’s seven-step method. The results identified three main themes: (1) motivations of male students in choosing a nursing major, (2) experiences of male students in clinical practice and learning, and (3) challenges encountered during their nursing education. These findings may support the development of more inclusive academic and social support for male nursing students.

Abstract

Retention refers to an individual's ability to retain or recall information, knowledge, or skills acquired through learning. Proficiency in performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is essential for high school students to enhance their preparedness for emergencies. One of the most straightforward CPR techniques for laypersons is CPR Hands-Only. This study aims to identify the factors influencing the post-training self-assessed perceived retention of CPR skills among high school students. A cross-sectional approach was employed, involving 111 high school students participating in a CPR Hands-Only training program. Participants were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using structured self-assessment questionnaires to evaluate age, gender, class level, history of witnessing heart attacks, prior CPR training, knowledge, confidence, and perceived skill retention.  Multivariate logistic regression was used for data analysis. Class level, knowledge, and confidence are found to influence CPR skill retention (p<0.05) significantly. 76.6% of participants have reported perceiving themselves as capable of retaining CPR skills, with most demonstrating moderate to high levels of knowledge and confidence. Age and gender do not have a significant impact, and prior exposure to heart attacks or CPR training also shows no notable effect on skill retention. The findings indicate that educational level, knowledge enhancement, and confidence-building are critical factors for successful CPR skill retention. Adapting training methods to these factors can improve training effectiveness and emergency preparedness, particularly in regions like Indonesia, where CPR training is not yet routinely integrated into school programs.

Abstract

Bencana alam, seperti tanah longsor, memiliki dampak psikologis yang signifikan bagi masyarakat yang tinggal di wilayah rawan bencana. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan tingkat kecemasan masyarakat di Kecamatan Parongpong, Kabupaten Bandung Barat, yang sering terdampak tanah longsor. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif korelasional dengan desain cross-sectional, penelitian ini mengumpulkan data dari 70 responden yang dipilih melalui purposive sampling. Variabel yang dianalisis mencakup usia, jenis kelamin, tingkat pendidikan, lama berdomisili, pengalaman dengan bencana, dan partisipasi dalam pelatihan bencana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas responden mengalami kecemasan ringan, dan tidak ditemukan hubungan signifikan antara faktor-faktor tersebut dengan tingkat kecemasan. Meskipun demikian, perempuan lebih cenderung mengalami kecemasan dibandingkan laki-laki. Penelitian ini memberikan wawasan penting mengenai dampak psikologis tanah longsor di wilayah rawan bencana dan menunjukkan bahwa intervensi untuk meningkatkan kesiapsiagaan bencana perlu diperhatikan untuk mengurangi kecemasan masyarakat. Temuan ini dapat dijadikan dasar bagi kebijakan mitigasi bencana yang lebih komprehensif, dengan mempertimbangkan aspek kesehatan mental.

Abstract

Background: Primary nursing is promoted globally for better continuity, accountability, and engagement,, butthere is limitede is limited evidence from Indonesia on nurses' transition from team to primary care. This study explored the lived experiences of nurses transitioning from team nursing to primary nursing in Indonesia, aiming to understand how they adapt, the barriers they encounter, and the impact of this shift on nurse–patient relationships. Methods: A qualitative approach was used, employing Van Manen’s hermeneutic phenomenology. Ten registered nurses working in medical–surgical wards of a tertiary hospital in Bandung, Indonesia, were purposively sampled. Inclusion criteria included registered nurses with experience in both team and primary nursing models. Nurses in managerial roles without bedside duties were excluded. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews lasting 45–60 minutes, conducted face-to-face or via secure online platforms. These interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and member-checked. Analysis followed Van Manen’s reflective approach, with thematic analysis supported by NVivo (QSR International, version 12) for data organization. Trustworthiness was maintained through audit trails, reflexivity, peer debriefing, and thick description. Ethical approval was obtained (No. 513/KEPK-FIK.UNAI/EC/VI/25). Reporting followed COREQ. Results: Three themes emerged: (1) Readiness and adaptation to change, where nurses emphasized mindset and gradual learning as essential to adaptation; (2) Challenges in practice and system limitations, including high nurse-to-patient ratios, administrative burden, delayed support services, and training misaligned with practice; and (3) Strengthened nurse–patient relationships, reflecting improved trust, openness, and professional accountability, which sustained motivation despite systemic barriers. Conclusion: This study reveals how Indonesian nurses manage transitioning to primary nursing. Despite systemic challenges that affect continuity and workload, nurses' commitment and strong patient ties sustain their efforts.
