Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to reveal Complementary Therapies (CT) use among adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Aceh, Indonesia, and to determine the reasons of using the CT.Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was undertaken using a self-reported questionnaire. One hundred and fifty four adult patients with T2DM has been completed the questionnaire. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the data.Results: Herbs as a part of biological based therapies were the most popular of CT use among subjects in this study (100%) followed by mind-body intervention (94.2%), manipulation and body based methods (19.5%) and alternative medical methods (3.9%). The reasons for using each CT based on the belief in effects of CT on lowering blood sugar (100%), maintaining healthy body (76.6%), and relieving symptoms of DM (35.7%). Relatives and friends (98.7%) were main resources to obtain the CT information, and the family members (91.0%) were main support of CT use. While, the nature (89.0%) was the easiest source to access a CT product, followed by local markets (36.4%).Conclusion: This study found that herbs were believed by all subjects could reducing blood glucose, maintaining healthy body, and relieving symptoms of DM. Family members and easy to access the CT products from nature took the important role in influencing a person to use CT. More experimental studies examining effects of each CT especially herbal medicine and mind-body intervention are needed in the future.

Abstract

Online learning has a negative impact on students who cannot use online learning support facilities, of course this has an impact on reducing learning outcomes. This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing digital literacy on students' science learning outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The type of research used is correlation. The population of this study was 348 people. Data collection methods used were questionnaires and science learning outcomes tests that had been tested for validity and homogeneity. The data analysis used is simple linear regression, but previously a prerequisite test was carried out. The results showed the calculation of the correlation coefficient of 4.412 is greater than 2.034 with a significance value of 0.000 smaller than the alpha value of 0.05, the coefficient of determination of 0.371 x 100% of 37.1%. So, there is a positive and significant effect of the application of digital literacy on students' science learning outcomes.

Abstract

Smoking is one of the preventable causes of death. Indonesia is a country with the highest percentage of smokers in the world, thus threatening the health, safety and economic welfare of the people. One of the most important efforts to prevent these effects is to stop smoking. Quitting smoking will benefit all ages, quitting earlier will have greater benefits. Research objective: To describe motivation and plans to stop smoking among young people in Aceh. Materials and Methods: This study was an exploratory qualitative study conducted on smoking college students (15-24 year old group) with a total of 35 participants. Research will be carried out in Aceh in 2022.Data collection was carried out by way of Focus Group Discussion (FGD) which was divided into 5 FGD groups. The results of the FGD were then transcribed, followed by coding and determining the theme. Results: The results of this study obtained 4 themes: motivation to stop smoking, barriers to quitting smoking, reasons for failing to quit smoking, and method to quit. Motivations to stop smoking include smoking is harmful, increasing spending, and health. Barriers to stopping smoking include smoking has become a habit and addiction. The reason for failure to quit was reported because of a friend who was a smoker. The method chosen to quit smoking spontaneously. Conclusion: To stop smoking must be based on self-desire then supported by other external factors.

Determination of the sample in this study using the random sampling technique. The data collection methods used are questionnaires and science learning outcomes tests. The instrument used has gone through the stages of testing the validity and reliability of the instrument. The data analysis used in this research is simple linear regression analysis, which previously carried out several analysis prerequisite tests in the form of normality and homogeneity tests. The results showed that the calculation of the correlation coefficient of 4.412 is greater than 2.034 with a significance value of 0.000 less than an alpha value of 0.05, a coefficient of determination of 0.371 x 100% of 37.1%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is a positive and significant effect on the application of digital literacy on students' science learning outcomes.
