Abstract

To reduce pollution caused by fuel spills during the refueling process, this research designs and implements an automatic fuel filling device on a wooden boat with a capacity of 6 GT. This system consists of the JSN-SR04T ultrasonic sensor unit, an automatic pump, Neopixel-based LED visual indicators, and a microcontroller as the control center. This tool is designed to automate the fuel transfer process from the dock tank to the ship's tank without the need for manual intervention, thereby increasing operational efficiency and safety. Laboratory tests show that the system has high accuracy, with a Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) value of 0.30 cm, equivalent to an accuracy level of 99.39% in measuring the fuel surface height. In field tests on the Sungai Ungar–Batam route, this device was able to fill 75.76 liters of fuel in 9 minutes and 29.15 liters in 3 minutes automatically. The system is capable of detecting fuel levels, activating the pump when needed, and providing real-time visual notifications. The system's performance is affected by turbulence in the tank when the ship is moving, which reduces the stability of the sensor readings. Therefore, the use of sensors that are more resistant to dynamic conditions and the expansion of testing on larger capacity ships will be the next direction for development.

Abstract

The suitability of technology can only be assessed in the context of the overall process of social and economic development. Means of assessment include technology assessment where one examines the broad impact of a technology, and socio-economic opportunity analysis where one starts from social needs and looks for technological solutions. The integration and balance of different levels of technology is as important as the selection of individual technologies. Superior Engineers in the 21st Century do not design for the community, but design with the community and enable design by the community. With the right training and education, engineers can help change communities for the better by equipping community members to meet their own needs and implement their own design responses. Higher Education Institutions are present in society and have a very big role in building the nation, Higher Education also occupies a strategic position in making changes in society through the function of transforming Human Resources (HR), Science and Technology (IPTEK) and social through the implementation of Tridharma activities which includes education, research and community service. With this background, the Raja Ali Haji Maritime University Maritime Engineering Study Program carries out Community Service in the form of Appropriate Technology (TTG) training in the form of ship model making training or known as Hydromodelling at the Hang Tuah Tanjung Uban Naval Vocational School, Bintan, Riau Islands. Abstract

The operational efficiency and safety of patrol vessels critically depend on minimizing hydrodynamic resistance and enhancing seakeeping performance. This study explores the effect of stern foils with different NACA airfoil sections on a patrol vessel. Employing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), we assessed water resistance in calm conditions and seakeeping traits in regular head seas. Based on the results obtained, the total resistance value (RT) without stern foil shows a value of 202,112 N. Findings show that stern foils lead to a considerable reduction in total resistance, with the NACA 2412 profile achieving the greatest reduction at 14.85%, followed by NACA 64-212 (14.70%) and NACA 4412 (11.67%) at 20 knots and Fn 0.418. Additionally, seakeeping assessments revealed a significant mitigation of pitch and heave motions across all foil designs, notably a marked decrease in pitch Response Amplitude Operator (RAO) at the dominant frequency of 0.13 Hz. This work provides significant contributions to the optimization of patrol vessel design through advanced hydrodynamic additions, contributing to better fuel economy and greater operational stability in challenging maritime environments.
