Abstract

The purpose of this research is 1) to know the ability to write text of critical responses of students of class IX SMPN 10 Bengkulu Utara, 2) to know the ability to write text of critical responses of students of class IX SMPN 3 Bengkulu Utara and 3) to know the difference of writing ability of critical responses between students Class IX SMPN 3 North Bengkulu and students of class IX SMPN 10 North Bengkulu. This research uses quantitative descriptive method. The population of this research is the students of IX class SMPN 3 Bengkulu Utara and the students class IX SMPN 10 Bengkulu Utara, the sample is taken as many as 100 students. Data collection techniques use critical capability writing text tests. The data analysis technique used is unpaired T-test. The results showed that the ability to write text critical responses in students of class IX SMPN 3 Bengkulu North categorized enough and students class IX SMPN 10 North Bengkulu good category. There was no significant difference between students of IX class 3 of SMP 3 Bengkulu Utara with students of class IX SMP 10 Bengkulu Utara. From the results of this study as for suggestions submitted for both schools are more understanding of the structure of text, language rules, and spelling of Indonesian so that the writings of students more qualified. Keywords: Differences, Writing Capabilities, Critical Response Texts

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of Indonesian language learning in the class XI SMA Negeri 2 Kota Bengkulu. This research uses qualitative approach with descriptive method. Techniques used in collecting data are observation, document recording, and interview. The results showed that Indonesian teachers of class XI SMA Negeri 2 Kota Bengkulu carry out Indonesian language learning with the steps as in the Curriculum 2013, namely; 1) preliminary activities, 2) core activities, and 3) closing activities. Some suggestions the author wishes to convey are: 1) the teacher should improve the understanding of the Curriculum 2013 by attending seminars, workshops, training on Curriculum 2013 or studying books Curriculum 2013; 2) School parties should regularly conduct training or seminars of Curriculum 2013; 3) for the researcher, there is a need for further research regarding the implementation of learning for schools using the Curriculum 2013.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the improvement of speaking skills using storytelling techniques and making speeches by students of the Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program, FKIP University of Bengkulu. The research method used is a classroom action research method with the Hopkins model which was implemented in two cycles. Each cycle is carried out through four stages including the planning stage, the action stage, the observation stage, and the reflection stage. The data sources of this research were 34 students of the S-1 Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program, Bengkulu University, semester II class A. The data of this research are in the form of students' performances in making speeches and telling stories. The data collection technique is in the form of a speaking test, namely making speeches and telling stories. The data analysis used the mean formula and the final analysis was qualitative. The results showed that there was an increase in speaking skills using storytelling techniques and speaking to students. This can be seen from the process and learning outcomes in the first cycle with an average score of 71.88 in the good category, increasing in the second cycle with a score of 81.18 for the very good category. In particular, this increase occurred in storytelling skills with a score of 72.9 in the good category, and speech with a score of 70.85 in the good category, increased in cycle II for storytelling skills with a score of 80.7 in the very good category and speaking with a score of 81.65 in the very good category. . This improvement in speaking skills was followed by an increase in student activity in the learning process in cycle I with an increasing active attitude in cycle II being very active in an attitude of integrity, independence, discipline, responsibility, and honesty.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the ability to write short story texts for students of the Indonesian Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Bengkulu University. The scope of this research covers aspects of (1) the relevance of the content to the theme, (2) the structure of the text, (3) the choice of words (diction), (4) narrative style sentences, and (5) mechanics. This study uses a descriptive method and a simple quantitative approach. The data collection used a short story writing test technique. The research sample used a purposive sampling technique, namely 33 students in the 5C semester of S-1 Indonesian Language Education Study Program, Department of Language and Arts Education, FKIP Bengkulu University. Data analysis used the mean formula and qualitative final analysis. The results of the study showed that the ability to write short stories for undergraduate students of Indonesian Language Education FKIP Bengkulu University was categorized as good (mean score 81.68). That is, students already have adequate skills in writing short stories although they still need to be improved in order to achieve maximum results. In particular, the ability to write short stories in four aspects has been achieved in good categories, namely (1) the suitability of the theme with the content, (2) the structure of the text, (3) the accuracy of word choice of diction, and (4) the mechanical aspects or spelling of Indonesian, and (5) aspects of narrative style sentences are categorized as very good. As for the contribution of each aspect to students' short story writing skills, namely the contribution of aspects (a) structure of 29.26%, (b) narrative style sentences of 21.33%, (c) relevance of theme to content of 20.14%, ( d) diction or word choice by 19.81%, and (e) mechanics by 9.45%. Meanwhile, the highest contribution was obtained from the aspect of the structure of the text.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the structural and socio-cultural aspects of the novel Alita @ Heart by Dewie Sekar through the analysis of genetic structuralism. The approach used is a sociological approach using genetic structuralism analysis. The object of this research is the novel Alita @ Heart by Andrea Hirata. Data obtained by reading and note-taking techniques. The research instrument is the researcher assisted by data tabulation which explains the problem boundaries. The data were analyzed by the following steps: 1) reading and understanding the novel, 2) identifying the data, 3) examining the structural elements contained in the novel, 4) examining the social and cultural conditions of the people who lived at the time the literary work was created, 5) examining the background the author's social and cultural life that influences his world view on the creation of the novel, and 6) draw conclusions from the data obtained. From the results of this analysis, it can be seen that in the structural aspect, the grooves consist of open grooves, middle grooves, peak grooves, and closed grooves. In this novel there are four main characters, namely Alita, Yusa, Abel, and Gading. While additional characters include Mama, Papa, Delita, Dayana, Lee, Juno, Ava, Rama, and Aldo. The settings used include offices, kiosks, restaurants, homes, Bali, Surabaya, and Jakarta. Then, the time setting used is the past and everyday. In the aspect of social and cultural conditions of the people of Jakarta that is raised in this novel is the condition of the people who are trapped in a life full of busy work activities, traffic jams, and love.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the improvement of speaking skills through speech practice and speaking practice using online learning videos for students of the Indonesian Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Bengkulu University. This research uses the Hopkins CAR procedure which is taken in two cycles. Each cycle is carried out through four stages, including the planning stage, the action stage, the observation stage, and the reflection stage. The data sources for this research were 40 students of S1 Indonesian Language Education in the even semester of 2020-2021. The research data is in the form of performances in the practice of making speeches and telling stories in learning practice videos. Collecting data using speaking test techniques by way of practicing speeches and storytelling and observation techniques to observe student activities in the online learning process. Data analysis used the mean formula and qualitative final results. The results showed that there was an increase in students' speaking skills which was carried out by practicing speeches and practicing storytelling through the use of online learning videos. This is evidenced by the process and learning outcomes in the first cycle with an average score of 75.6 in the good category, increasing in the second cycle with a score of 85.8 in the very good category. This improvement in speaking skills was followed by an increase in student activity in the learning process in the first cycle with an active attitude category with an average of 4.28 increasing in the second cycle to being very active with an average of 4.72, in discipline, responsibility, working together (collaborating), independence, and honesty are all categorized as very active.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to describe comprehensively the greetings variation in Bengkulu Malay Language. The problems include: a) greetings types, and b) the characteristics of variation levels in the usage. The method used was descriptive qualitative with naturalistic approach. The results show that based on the types, the use of greetings in Bengkulu Malay Language is divided into eleven types. They are: greeting as pronouns, proper name, kinship, designation, subject, possessive pronouns, demonstratives, alias, zero conditional, address, and expertise. While the characteristics of variation levels are divided into two: formal characteristics which are used to show respects, and informal characteristics which are used to show a close relationship.

Abstract

Community service activities are carried out using the Penthahelix method. The stages of implementing the Pentahelix method in service activities with Enhanced Spelling Application material in the Class B Physics Study Program are: (1) establishing good communication and collaboration with all Pentahelix parties, (2) creating a clear, measurable and beneficial activity program for all parties, in this case the program used as service material is the EYD application for student writing purposes, (3) Use creative and innovative methods to attract student interest, (4) monitor and evaluate student activities when carrying out the use of the application periodically to ensure its effectiveness, (5) documenting service activities and results well. The results of service activities show that AI has the potential to revolutionize education, and the Unib Physics Study Program is at the forefront of exploring this potential. The implementation of AI in the Unib Physics Study Program has produced several positive benefits, and this program can become a model for other programs at other universities. However, there are also several challenges that need to be overcome before AI can be widely adopted in education.

Abstract

The 'Berasan' tradition in Rejang traditional weddings in Bengkulu Province shows significant dynamics in its development. Because it is a cultural system of community life, this tradition is important to understand so that it is widely known and studied in depth by experts, both within and outside Bengkulu Province. This study aims to describe the dynamics of the 'berasan' culture related to its history, system, ceremonial structure, meaning, and shifting patterns of variation in Rejang traditional weddings in Bengkulu Province. This study uses an ethnographic survey method and a qualitative approach. Data collection from informants (who meet the requirements for the study of oral traditions) through interviews and documentation in the form of words, sentences, symbolic actions, and objects or equipment used as well as secondary data, such as texts, traditional manuscripts, and videos of the 'Berasan' procession. Data analysis techniques are carried out through the stages of listening, viewing, and recording as well as transcribing, analyzing, and interpreting data according to the problem and drawing conclusions. The results of the research "Dynamics of the 'Berasan' tradition in Rejang traditional weddings in Bengkulu province" can be stated that: (1) the history of the origins of the 'berasan' tradition as a hereditary legacy from ancestors or since the existence of the ancestors of the Rejang tribe in Bengkulu; (2) the 'berasan' tradition system as an essential procession in Rejang traditional weddings; as a continuation of the introductory relationship between the man (bachelor) and the woman (girl), (3) the structure of the 'berasan' tradition is a deliberation process to formalize the engagement through a meeting of the man's family with the woman's family, witnessed by traditional figures, village heads, and religious scholars, in order to decide various matters related to the implementation of the 'marriage contract' and the wedding party, (4) the meaning of 'berasan' as a symbol of the value of the certainty of the relationship between the man (bachelor) and the woman (girl), a symbol of commitment to silaturahmi in perpetuating the relationship between the two new families, and a symbol of 'respect' as a form of appreciation for the woman's family, and (5) there is a pattern of variation in the shift in the 'berasan' tradition (culture), such as (a) simplification of the procession time (flexibility), (b) simplification of the use of symbolic equipment (such as tools), (c) shift in the use of language (from Rejang to Indonesian), and (d) differences in the use of technology and (e) variations in the rules for implementing the tradition 'berasan' in various places, in Bengkulu
