Abstract

There are many cases of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in the community that cannot be rescued, because they did not get the proper and fast action due to ignorance and incompetence of the community. The purpose of this training was  increasing the knowledge, attitudes, intentions, and abilities of the community in identifying and handling SCA in Cileles Village, Jatinangor District. The community service activities were integrated with student’s KKN activities. This activity was carried out starting from the initial assessment related to the CPR ability of  the community, socialization to KKN students, preparation of materials and learning media, the implementation of socialization and training activities for the community, and also this evaluation. At the implementation stage, 33 training participants participated. Pre-test and post-test measurements were carried out with the response rate as much as 90.9%. As much as 53.3% of respondents had never received information about cardiac arrest, and 93.3% had never received information about CPR before. After training, the respondents' average knowledge score was 75.7. On the attitude aspect, before training, 90% of respondents supported the implementation of CPR and after training, 96.7% of participants supported the implementation of CPR. Meanwhile, before the training, no participants intended to do CPR if they found victims of SCA, but 100% of participants intended to do CPR after training. There was an increase in knowledge, attitudes, and community intentions related to the handling of cardiac emergencies, especially cardiac arrest. This was an indication that CPR will be carried out by respondents if they found victims of SCA. Similar training needs to be conducted periodically to prevent the decline in knowledge or skills related to CPR actions. Keywords: Pemberdayaan Masyarakat, Kegawatdaruratan, Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

Abstract

We often found emergency condition on children in elementary school which can lead death. Teachers should have good knowledge and favorable attitude toward first aid so they can give right intervention on emergency condition. The objective of this activity was to improve attitude and knowledge of elementary school teachers toward it. This activity be held on training program includes lecture, discussion, and practice. Result showed there was any improvement of elementary school teachers’ attitude and knowledge score. Reevaluation and retraining should be held to improve significant score of teachers’ attitude and knowledge so do their skill toward first aid on children emergency condition in elementary school. Keywords: first aid, emergency condition, elementary school teachers, children

Abstract

The high and varied disasters occur in Indonesia, requiring the government and the whole community to be ready for disaster. In the Faculty of Nursing Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad), there is a group of students who do extracurricular activities to provide health aid called PNC. Training needs to be done to enhance the role of PNC as well as increasing the participation of students in the disaster relief program. This training resulted in increased knowledge and attitudes of PNC members on disaster management, and also increased the knowledge and attitude related to the role and function of students in disaster management effort. In addition, other additional results related to the effectiveness of training methods for PNC members successfully obtained. The methods compared were lecture and discussion (LD) compared with LD plus simulation and FGD methods. It is measured by using the quasi experimental method with pretest-posttest control group design. Data analysis used Mann Whitney test. The result showed that there was no difference in knowledge and attitude (p = 1,000) in both treatment groups (p = 0,424). Which means that there was no difference between LD method and LD plus simulation and FGD method. Keywords: Training, Disaster Management, Padjadjaran Nursing Corps (PNC)

Abstract

The purpose of this scoping review is to identify how the application of EWS to detecting acute deterioration in adult patients in general ward hospital. The method used was a scoping review and the literature has been obtained from searches derived from four databases originating from PubMed, Scopus, Sage, and CINAHL. The results showed that the implementation of EWS consisted of 6 components (vital sign recording, EWS scoring and reading, EWS protocol, clinical response based on escalation protocol, information assistance process using bundle communication (SBAR), medical emergency team (MET) system activation). Seven main of vital sign have to measured are respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, oxygen supplementation, temperature, pulse, systolic blood pressure, and level of consciousness. Persistence and additional commitment since 2009 were identified as significantly increasing benefits during the implementation of EWS instruments to improve patient outcomes. This success was obtained from experience that can increase the knowledge and competence of nurses. Changes in the risk of the EWS score can be read by nurses as an indication of clinical deterioration that requires stabilization interventions. Innovations have also been carried out since 2013 which have been successfully implemented in various countries, especially in 2019 and 2021 which are called EWS electronic. Based on this study, EWS proved to be accurate in detecting deterioration in patients. Therefore, to improve the implementation of EWS nurses must have good knowledge, because in implementing EWS requires critical thinking, and the ability to analyze numerical score classifications as a basis for decision making. Abstract

Background: Children are a vulnerable group when experiencing a disaster. This vulnerability occurs because children's knowledge about disasters is very minimal, making children feel unprepared for disasters. The physical, psychological and social impacts caused by disasters are very dangerous for children's future development.Purpose: This study aims to determine interventions that can be done to improve children's knowledge related to disaster preparedness. Methods: The literature search used PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct, and EBSCOHOST Journal databases. Articles were analyzed based on the criteria of publication year 2017-2022, English and Indonesian language, randomized controlled trial and quasi experimental research designs and research results according to the topicResults: Six articles were obtained that discussed interventions to improve children's knowledge about disaster preparedness. There are several ways found in these articles, including disaster simulations with picture books, educational games, pop-up fairy tales, and animated videos, disaster awareness videos, and smartphone-based counseling. Conclusion: Education related to disaster preparedness for children can be obtained through various media, such as picture books, educational games, pop-up fairy tales, and animated videos, disaster awareness videos, and smartphone-based counseling. This knowledge can make children more prepared in the face of disasters.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how to provide nutrition that effectively maintains the balance of blood glucose levels and glycemic control. This study uses a narrative literature review method by entering keywords into the Pubmed, Science Direct, CINAHL, Wiley, and ProQuest databases. The results showed that from the search results of 569 articles and obtained ten relevant and qualified pieces, then extracted using the DSVIA method. Provision of nutrition with the continuous method can lower the average blood glucose or reduce the incidence of hyperglycemia. Then the intermittent process significantly reduces hypoglycemia during the meal period, prevents hypoglycemia during the fasting period, and can reduce insulin requirements. In conclusion, enteral nutrition needs to be modified so that nutrition and insulin administration time can be practical and effective in controlling critical sugar levels.
