Abstract

ENGLISH COMMUNICATION LITERACY FOR INDUSTRIAL WORKER IN KARAWANG. Communication competence in using English for industrial workers in multinational companies will add value to employees and company. Multi-national companies are companies that are managed collaboratively by citizens from several countries. So that, in daily activities it is possible to use the national language or foreign languages. However, not all employees at the level of high, middle, or ordinary employees are competent to communicate in English. This training is designed to provide workers knowledge to communicate in English. Based on a discussion with a representative of the workers, even though the worker was of a multi-national company, he did not get language training carried out by the company, so workers often carry out learning independently using available media. However, due to the absence of a communication partner, his efforts were not maximally successful. There are several activities phases carried out in this program, namely 1) designing activities oriented towards building workers' English competence, 2) preparing activities and communication tools with partners, 3) implementing online learning activities, and finally evaluating activities. The data obtained is the emergence of engagement in worker communication using English. The results shown are: 1) Participants have been able to initiate simple communications in English. 2) Participants have been able to hold short talks individually; and 3) Participants have been able to communicate monologically using short English orally.

Abstract

In an ELT environment, English debate is a good extracurricular activity. As a result, it is becoming a noteworthy event in school or university. The goal of this study is to investigate an English teacher's debate teaching approach in an Indonesian high school. The training method utilized was crucial since it improved students' understanding of the knowledge acquisition process (Wegner e. al., 2013). Observation, interviewing, and documenting were used to obtain data, which was then reviewed qualitatively using a case study technique. The findings revealed that the instructor used successful teaching strategies to help the students' debate team win the competition. Regular debate practice, brainstorming, using the 3M concept, and encouraging students were among the teacher's training strategies. Meanwhile, the students' reaction has been positive.

Abstract

The main focus of this research is the application of rewards in vocabulary learning. The purpose of this study was to determine the application of the reward method by the teacher in learning vocabulary. The researcher used a qualitative approach with a descriptive case study design. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and documentation. To analyze the data, the researcher followed the steps described by Miles & Hubberman. These steps are: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions/verification. Through this investigation, the researcher found that when applying the reward method in vocabulary learning, the teacher did 6 stages. That is preparing the material, explaining the material, giving questions or games, giving rewards to students who take lessons well and answer questions correctly, providing opportunities to answer questions for students who are not focused, and adjusting the number of questions to the amount of the reward given.

Abstract

In the growing digital era, the use of technology in the learning process is very important to increase students' learning motivation. This study aims to investigate factors influencing students' difficulties in writing descriptive text and to find out students' responses to the use of the Canva application as a medium for learning writing in senior high school. This research uses a case study method with a qualitative approach. The subjects of this study were students of class X MIPA 5 at a high school in Karawang. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, interview, and document analysis of students' work. In the interview, the researcher involved 5 students. The results showed that students gave positive responses to the use of Canva as a learning medium for writing descriptive text.

Abstract

Pendidikan Al-Qur’an memiliki peran penting dalam membentuk karakter santri serta meningkatkan keterampilan membaca dan memahami Al-Qur’an. Rumah Qur’an Bunda Saudah sebagai salah satu lembaga pendidikan nonformal di Desa Duren menghadapi beberapa kendala dalam proses pembelajaran, seperti keterbatasan tenaga pengajar dan kurangnya fasilitas pendukung sehingga pembelajaran menjadi kurang efektif. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk membantu agar santri Rumah Qur’an Bunda Saudah dapat meningkatkan kefasihan dalam membaca Al-Qur’an. Sasaran kegiatan ini adalah santri yang berjumlah 126 orang santri yang aktif belajar di lembaga tersebut. Kegiatan yang dilakukan meliputi sosialisasi tentang penggunaan mushaf rasm utsmani Madinah. Hasil pengabdian masyarakat menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan iqra’ dan mushaf Rasm utsmani Madinah memberikan kemudahan bagi santri dalam mengenali tanda baca, memahami kaidah tajwid, serta meningkatkan ketepatan dalam melafalkan huruf hijaiyah. Selain itu, interaksi yang positif menciptakan suasana belajar yang lebih kondusif dan menyenangkan. Berdasarkan hasil kegiatan ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan iqra’ dan rasm utsmani Madinah berpengaruh pada kemampuan membaca santri, juga meningkatkan keterlibatan pengajar dalam memberikan bimbingan yang lebih sistematis. Dengan adanya pendampingan secara langsung, pembelajaran menjadi lebih terstruktur dan dapat diadaptasi sesuai dengan kebutuhan santri dan kondisi pembelajaran di Rumah Qur’an Bunda Saudah.

Abstract

Calon guru Bahasa Arab melakukan praktek mengajar di kelas menjadi tantangan. Mereka mengerjakan banyak hal seperti  rencana, proses dan evaluasi pembelajaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggali tantangan yang mereka hadapi saat praktek mengajar di sekolah.  Penelitian  ini menggunakan desain inkuiri naratif.. Data penelitian diambil dengan menggunakan jurnal reflektif yang ditulis oleh partisipan. Data menunjukkan bahwa calon guru Bahasa Arab memiliki tantangan yang kuat. Hal-hal yang ditemukan dan dianggap belum memenuhi kompetensi mengajar dalam hal analisis kurikulum, penyusunan perangkat pembelajaran, pengelolaan kelas dan pekerjaan administrasi guru. Berdasarkan temuan  calon guru menghadapi permasalahan diantaranya adalah lemah dalam menganalisa kurikulum, belum mampu menyusun perangkat pembelajaran dengan, belum mengelola kelas, dan belum bisa mengerjakan administrasi guru secara baik. Oleh karena penelitian ini memiliki keterbatasan cakupan baik data dan partisipan, penelitian mendatang sebaiknya dapat menambah data atau partisipan dan fokus pada proses yang dilakukan oleh praktikan dalam mengajar.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore students’ perceptions and challenges in learning vocabulary through the Spelling Bee method at an equivalency education institution. The research employed a qualitative case study approach involving students from a non-formal education program. Data were collected through interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed that students generally had positive perceptions toward the implementation of the Spelling Bee method. The activity increased students’ motivation and interest in learning English by creating a fun, interactive, and engaging learning environment. In addition, the method helped students improve their vocabulary mastery, pronunciation, and spelling skills through repeated practice and active participation. Some students also reported that the method supported them in constructing simple sentences, although difficulties in grammar and sentence structure remained. Despite the positive outcomes, several challenges were identified, including anxiety and nervousness during the activity, difficulty in spelling and pronunciation, limited vocabulary knowledge, and challenges in constructing sentences. The findings also highlighted the importance of teacher and peer support in helping students overcome learning difficulties. Overall, the study concludes that the Spelling Bee method is an effective and enjoyable strategy for vocabulary learning in equivalency education, although additional instructional support is still needed to maximize students’ language development.

Abstract

Reading is an ability that everyone must have, reading is also a bridge to new knowledge. In fact, students often struggle with reading such as identifying texts, finding the main topic, extracting information, grasping the overall meaning, and connecting text events to real life. This study aims to explore the implementation of the KWL (Know, Want, Learn) strategy in teaching reading comprehension of narrative texts and student perception in learning reading narrative text at junior high schools in Karawang. The KWL strategy is used to help students understand narrative texts more deeply, with stages that include identifying prior knowledge, learning objectives, and reflecting on the understanding gained. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method to analysed the data found. The participants used in this research amounted to 8 students. besides that, the data collection technique uses 3 ways, namely observation, interview, and documentation. The findings show that the KWL strategy is helping in students organize information and improve their understanding of the text, some students also said that this strategy really helped students and understand the material. However, challenges such as low student interest in reading and limited learning media are obstacles in the implementation process. However, students' perceptions of the KWL strategy are positive, where students feel more actively involved in the learning process and are more motivated to read narrative texts. Therefore, the results show that KWL strategy helps students organize information and improve their understanding of the text. Although this strategy is effective, there are challenges such as students' low reading interest and limited learning media. However, students' perception of KWL strategy remains positive, and helping where they feel more engaged and motivated in the learning process.
