Abstract

This present study aims to find out how an English teacher carries out Edmodo in summative assessment and to find out students’ perceptions doing online assessment through Edmodo in EFL classroom. This basic interpretive study involved thirty students of one of senior high schools in Karawang. The data were collected from the subject of this research directly even via google form and whatsapp by using some instruments, such as: observation sheet, interview guideline, and questionnaire. The present study used semi-structured interview for three interviewees via whatsapp. The researchers also distributed close-ended questionnaire via google form to thirty students. Then, it was analyzed by using Miles and Huberman’s method of data analysis. The finding indicated that the teacher conducts an online assessment using Edmodo with appropriate procedures. Edmodo leads teacher and students’ technological knowledge and Edmodo renders the test practical and motivating. The students perceived Edmodo well as summative assessment although there was a few negative assumption. Most students would prefer to be evaluated through Edmodo instead of the traditional test or paper-based test.  Keywords: keyword Edmodo, online assessment, summative assessment

Abstract

This study aims at presenting the teacher's belief on teaching philosophy as a teacher professionalism platform. It explores how the teacher perceives teaching philosophy as a teacher professionalism platform and in what ways teaching philosophy assists the teacher to refine his teaching. The research design of this study is basic interpretative study. It is used to identify the extent to which teaching philosophy is understood and practiced by teachers. There are general pattern findings of this study. The first finding is English teachers' perceived teaching philosophy builds reflective teachers. The second findings refers to reflected activity that copes with the teacher in refining suitable ways in facilitating students to learn. Teaching philosophy potentially assists teachers in teaching by providing various activities. Thus, it supports the teacher to be a professional English teacher.

Abstract

Learning writing has been conducted by using various methods. Collaborative writing is one of method that used in writing learning practice. Studies about collaborative writing reveal that online collaborative writing is effective to promote students’ writing quality. There are many previous studies have explored the students’ perception, effectiveness, and benefits of collaborative writing. However, the study about students’ emotional engagement in collaborative writing is limited. This study aims to explore students’ emotional engagement during online collaborative writing through Google Docs. The exploration of students’ emotional engagement is beneficial to understand students’ feelings and emotions during the learning process. Classroom Action Research is used as the research design of the study. Participant of the research is four eleven grade high school students. The research was conducted at the SMA Negeri 1 Cikarang Barat in three weeks. Semi-structured interview and documentation were used for collecting the data. The result of the study showed that online collaborative writing through Google Docs involves students to learn writing enthusiastically. Online collaborative writing also involves students cognitively by acquiring new vocabulary during the online collaborative writing activity.

Abstract

The spread of Covid-19 is affecting education systems around the world and transform the learning from face-to-face to online learning. Interaction is important pattern to share knowledge between teachers and students. Previous research has said that interaction could also encourage students to master the subject matter. This study aims to describe the EFL teachers’ perception towards classroom interaction during Covid-19 pandemic especially on how the interaction between teacher-student, student-teacher, and student-student synchronously which is assisted by Google Meet. The research method used in this study is descriptive case study and taking data by conducting observation, interview, and documentation. Based on research result, teacher perceive online classroom interaction in balance emotion, exploratory talk tends to be implemented in online classroom interactions, Indirect talk of asking questions is the dominant online classroom interaction.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the use of Edmodo in formative assessment and students' perceptions on the use of Edmodo writing. This study uses a basic interpretive design. An English teacher and seven students participated in this research. It used observations, interviews, and documentation to collect data to answer these two research questions. The findings showed that the Edmodo-assisted writing formative assessment builds teacher technological pedagogy, and content knowledge. The students’ responses are viewed from cognitive aspect. Furthermore, the students can improve and explore the ability to writing skills. From the emotional perspective, the students feel more enjoyable and enthusiastic when doing a formative test. Whereas in the affective perspective, the students seemed more interested in assessment manually by the teacher through individual correction analysis.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to discover how Kahoot emotionally engages students’ feelings in the EFL classroom. The research was conducted to one of senior high in Pebayuran which included five students from MIPA’s tenth grade. This research uses descriptive case study as research design. The data is gathered through semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The interview has been done via WhatsApp call. The questionnaire was distributed via a WhatsApp group and using a 5-point Likert scale. The documentation is a photograph of students in learning activities. This study employed thematic analysis which included six steps to analyze the data. Those six steps are familiarizing the data, generating initial codes, searching for themes, reviewing themes, defining and naming data, and producing the report. As a result, it was found that Kahoot positively engages students' emotionally. It presented that Kahoot makes the learning joyful, students felt enjoy, interested, happy, motivate, and enthusiastic. However, there are challenges in using Kahoot. It found that students’ anxiety of limited times and technical problems of internet connection.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic cannot be avoided at this time. Various policy changes began to be implemented, one of which was the online learning policy in all educational institutions, and one of them was the Vocational High School (SMK). During online learning, various kinds of obstacles arise, and of course, it is felt by vocational students. These obstacles give rise to various views of vocational students. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the perceptions of vocational students during online EFL classes. This study focused on six students of class XII Office Administration who participated in the study. This study uses a narrative inquiry research design. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Observations were made during four meetings in learning through Google Meet calls. Interviews were conducted via Google Meet calls. And documentation in the form of photos of students in online learning activities. This research uses thematic analysis by Braun and Clark (2006), which includes six steps to analyze the data. The results of the study found that learning English online for vocational students had many obstacles. These obstacles include the lack of teachers using different media when doing online learning, being too fast and lacking in detail in delivering knowledge, students being lazy to learn because they are too dependent on translator applications, and problems with the students' or teachers' internet connections. However, there are advantages to online learning. The advantage is that they feel more courageous in expressing their opinions in the ongoing learning activities.

Abstract

This study aims at investigating the ways Pre-service English Teacher (PET) uses English in the classroom. Observation data described how PET used English in one of Junior High School in Karawang. The results showed there were three findings emerged. Firstly, the use of English was practiced in stimulating students at the pre-lesson stage. Secondly, the PET tended to use Indonesian in main lesson. Finally, in the post-lesson stage English was used more dominantly but Indonesian is more dominant in the reflection stage.

Abstract

Online learning has been mainly discussed and used in today’s situation during covid-19 pandemic. It challenges teachers to adapt and serve proper interactive and effective learning. However, a few study that concerns on how teachers design online learning. This present study aims at exploring an EFL teacher online learning design. This study is a narrative inquiry design that collects data from comprehensive semi-structured interviews. The interviews was transcribed and analyzed thoroughly. The data were interpreted through thematic analysis and theoretical lenses. The finding of this study revealed that the teacher prioritizes on students’ needs as learning guidance, students’ communicative practice is emphasized through video call and WhatsApp group. This online design assisted students to actively engage and to be autonomous learner.

Abstract

Disrupsi revolusi industry 4.0 menghadapkan para santri pada realita kehidupan abad 21 yang penuh dengan uncertainly (ketidakpastian), complexity (kerumitan), fluctuity (fluktuasi), ambiguity (kemenduaan) yang berdampak terhadap kehidupan manusia. Tujuan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah membentuk jiwa kepemimpinan yang bertujuan agar santri mampu melaksanakan pengamalan nilai-nilai Al-Qur’an disertai kecakapan abad 21 (4 C). Pengabdian dilaksanakan melalui metode pelatihan kepada 20 santri Pondok Pesantren Al-Hidayah Purwakarta dengan menerapkan protocol kesehatan. Materi terbagi menjadi lima sesi mengenai: 1) Way of My Life and Be My Self: Konsep hidup Bahagia berlandaskan Al-Qur’an); 2) Tantangan Global dan skill abad 21; 3) Kepemimpinan Transformasional; 4) Dinamika Kelompok; dan 5) Sharing dan tanya jawab. Pelatihan dilaksanakan secara edukatif dengan penuh humor, interaktif dan menyenangkan disertai beberapa contoh kasus yang melatih kemampuan peserta menganalisis dan mengembangkan keterampilan 4 C. Penyampaian materi disertai dasar ayat Al-Qur’an sebagai landasan ilahiyah dan spiritual. Peserta secara umum merasa sangat puas dengan pelatihan dan merasakan kebermanfaatan bagi pengembangan pengetahuan, skill, motivasi, dan semangat untuk siap menghadapi tantangan di abad 21 dengan menjadi pribadi yang ber-Qur’an. Lebih lanjut, 80% peserta menilai sangat perlu adanya keberlanjutan pelatihan di masa mendatang.
