Abstract

Aflatoxin is a toxic compound from the fungus A. flavus which can cause a decrease in chicken productivity. This study aims to evaluate the effect of bentonite clay and activated charcoal in chicken feed as aflatoxin binders based on histopathological and immunological features in chickens. A total of 60 chickens were randomly divided into 4 groups (G0, G1, G2, and G3) each group consisted of 15 chickens. G0 as a control without the addition of aflatoxin to the feed. Groups G1, G2, and G3’s feed were added with 106 ppb of aflatoxin. G2 was treated with 5g/kg bentonite clay, G3 was treated with 5g/kg activated charcoal. Chickens were vaccinated with Newcastle Disease (ND) on day 5. On days 14 and 28 serum was collected from the specimens for titer antibody testing. At the end of the study the chickens were dissected, the liver was taken for a histopathological test. The results of the aflatoxin level in the G0, G1, G2, and G3 groups were 10.5, 106, 19.1, and 23.95 ppb, respectively. Microscopic changes show the negative effects of aflatoxin on the liver organ. Group G0 did not show any histopathological changes, Group G2 and G3 showed several mild histopathological changes, whereas group G1 was the most severe. The antibody titers against Newcastle Disease (ND) of 4-weeks old chickens in G0, G1, G2, and G3 were 64, 4, 32, 32 HI units, respectively. The G0 treatment group has a protective titer against ND disease. Group G1 has the lowest (non-protective) ND antibody titer. Whereas the G2 and G3 groups both have protective titers against ND disease. Based on this study it was concluded that the administration of bentonite clay and activated charcoal was able to produce better immunological and histopathological features than the control group.

Abstract

Mastitis merupakan radang pada glandula mammae (ambing) ternak perah. Mastitis tipe subklinis sering dikaitkan pada kejadian mastitis di peternakan ruminansia kecil seperti kambing perah (kambing Peranakan Etawah, Saanen, dan Sapera). Patogen utama yang berperan dalam kejadian mastitis ini adalah genus Staphylococcus. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk melakukan identifikasi bakteri Staphylococcus sp. dan Staphylococcus aureus sebagai penyebab mastitis subklinis pada kambing perah dengan menggunakan metode polymerase  chain reaction (PCR). Tahapan metode yang dilakukan adalah ekstraksi DNA dengan teknik spin-collumn system terhadap 26 isolat bakteri yang telah dilakukan uji biokimia sebelumnya dan amplifikasi gen spesifik 23s rRNA Staphylococcus sp. dan Staphylococcus aureus, serta methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), dilanjutkan dengan visualisasi menggunakan UV-transluminator. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa sebanyak 12 isolat sampel teridentifikasi Staphylococcus sp. dan 1 diantaranya teridentifikasi Staphylococcus aureus. Isolat yang teridentifikasi Staphylococcus aureus bukan termasuk MRSA.

Abstract

Livestock in Indonesia are mostly smallholder farms which have the following characteristics, including small scale businesses and using simple technology. One effort to overcome these problems is to carry out technological transformation. The introduction of technology for the maintenance of Peranakan Ettawa (PE) goats has been given to farmers, but not many of these technologies have been adopted by farmers who have certain characteristics. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of farmers who influence the technology adoption rates of Ettawa Peranakan goat breeding. The materials used were Peranakan Ettawa breeders who were members of the Mantep Makaryo, Subur and Tirto livestock groups in the village of Hargotirto, Kokap District, Kulon Progo Regency. The method used in this study is the survey method. The study was conducted from April to October 2018. The analysis used in this study is multiple linear regression analysis, namely the analysis used to determine the factors that influence the rate of technology adoption. The total respondents used in this study were 74 breeders. The results of the analysis showed that at the same time the characteristics of breeders, age, education level, number of family dependents, experience of breeding, number of lactation PE goats, and scale of ownership of PE goats had an influence on 67.20% goat maintenance technology adoption. Partially showing a significant effect (P <0.01) is the experience of farming, education level (P <0.05) while the number of dependents shows the effect on technology adoption (P <0.1). Keywords: Adoption, Characteristics of breeders, PE Goats

Abstract

Abstrak  Kegiatan pengabdian pada periode ini bertujuan untuk mengintroduksikan teknik pemeliharaan ayam buras yang berorientasi agrobisnis. Pada tahapan awal, kegiatan dimulai dengan penyuluhan (sosialisasi) untuk membekali masyarakat dengan pengetahuan manajemen pemeliharaan ayam kampung buras, aspek nutrisi, perkawinan, perkandangan, penyakit, vaksinasi, dan sanitasi kandang. Tahapan kedua meliputi pendampingan secara aktif dalam peningkatan keterampilan masyarakat dalam budidaya praktis, dengan pendekatan praktek lapangan secara partisipatif. Selanjutnya, masyarakat sasaran membuat kandang demplot sebagai percontohan di lokasi kegiatan. Tahapan realisasi dilakukan dengan praktek pemeliharaan ayam buras selama 2 bulan. Masyarakat sasaran dibekali bibit ayam, peralatan kandang, pakan, dan obat-obatan untuk memulai kegiatan pemeliharaan.  Program sosialisasi telah dilakukan secara bertahap, sehingga memudahkan masyarakat untuk memahami manajemen pemeliharaan ayam buras dengan konsep agrobisnis yang menerapkan good farming practice meliputi aspek nutrisi, brooding, perkandangan, penyakit, vaksinasi, reproduksi dan sanitasi kandang. Tahapan pembuatan demplot kandang budidaya ayam sebagai gambaran kandang dan metode pemeliharaan yang baik. Tahapan pembuatan kandang ini mengedepankan aspek pastisipatif dari masyarakat. Metode pemeliharaan yang disasar bersifat semi intensif. Sebagai bagian dari motivasi kepada masyarakat, tim juga telah memberikan bantuan anakan ayam (DOC) sejumlah 1000 ekor yang dibagikan merata kepada masyarakat. Metode pemeliharaan semi-intensif sangat efektif digunakan untuk budidaya ayam buras bagi masyarakat Desa Janten, Temon, Kulon Progo.   Kata kunci : ayam buras, Semi-intensif, Produktivitas AbstractThe service activity carried out aims to introduce agribusiness-oriented domestic chicken maintenance techniques to the community. In the initial stages, efforts were made to increase public knowledge and awareness about integrated agribusiness such as: nutrition, artificial insemination, housing, disease, vaccination, and sanitary enclosures. The second stage involves the target community to make a demonstration plot as a pilot at the location. The realization stage was carried out with the practice of raising domestic poultry for 2 months. The target community is equipped with chickens, cage equipment, food, and medicine to start maintenance activities. These socialization programs were introducing the agribusiness system that applies good farming practice such as: nutrition, brooding, housing, vaccination, reproduction and sanitation enclosures. The stages of making chicken cage demonstration plots were carried out in one of the community houses as a pilot. It is hoped that this demonstration plot can provide a pretty good picture of the stable and maintenance methods. The team has also provided 1000 heads of day old chicken (DOC) with the targeted maintenance methods are semi-intensive. This semi-intensive maintenance method is very effective to be used for the cultivation of free-range chicken. For the people of Janten Village, Temon, Kulon Progo.

Abstract

Jumlah angka kelahiran anak sapi yang lambat menyebabkan populasi ternak sapi khususnya di Indonesia masih sedikit. Salah satu cara untuk meningkatkan jumlah populasi dan angka kelahiran pada ternak sapi ini dapat dilakukan melalui inseminasi buatan. Namun demikian, penggunaan alat inseminasi buatan juga tidak akan selalu berhasil apabila informasi masa birahi pada ternak sapi tidak akurat.Peralatan inseminasi buatan yang terintegrasi dengan kamera endoskopi yang terintegrasi dengan metode capture foto, video, dan suhu diperlukan untuk melaksanakan tahapan-tahapan sebelum dan sesudah dilakukannya peletakan semen sperma pada ovarium, yaitu masa birahi dan deteksi kehamilannya. Rancang bangun alat insiminasi buatan ini yang disebut sebagai IB-G2 ditekankan agar petugas penginseminasi lebih fokus dengan memposisikan layar on board.IB-G2 berhasil dibuat dengan spesifikasi  processor 1.4 GHz, memory 1GB, LCD layar sentuh warna 3.5" 320x480 Dots, kamera 640x680p, dan dengan sensor suhu jangkauan -55 to 125 °C. IB-G2 ini diharapakan berkontribusi membantu inseminator pada khususnya dan peternak pada umumnya agar populasi sapi di peternak meningkat.

Abstract

Paper-based products play a vital role in various aspects of modern life, ranging from educational and office needs to industrial and e-commerce applications. This study aims to analyze the impact of implementing risk assessment and safety culture on improving Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) performance in companies through a systematic literature review method. The research process involved identifying five relevant journal articles from various academic databases using strict inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data and findings from the selected literature were then collected, analyzed, and synthesized to gain a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between risk assessment, safety culture, and OHS performance. The results indicate that comprehensive risk assessment implementation and strong safety culture development significantly contribute to improved OHS performance. These findings are particularly relevant for the pulp and paper mills industry, which faces high workplace risks. The study recommends that companies adopt a systematic approach to risk manajement and consistently develop safety culture to create a safer work environment and support smooth business operations.
