Abstract

This research is about the ability of Students in Using EnglishConjunction. The aim of this study is to measure the ability of second year students ofSenior high school in using English conjunctions. The samples of this research were57 second semester students of senior high school. The determination of the sampleswas done randomly. In collecting the data, they were given a set of test inunderstanding the usage of conjunction. The number of items are 40, they weredivided into two parts, the first part (completed the paragraph in using coordinatingand subordinating conjunction) and the second part (complete the sentence in usingcoordinating and subordinating conjunction). In processing data the writer used thestatistical procedure such as, the range score, the interval width, the interval class, thefrequency distribution, and arithmetic mean ( X ). From the data analysis the meanscore of second semester students of senior high school is 60,15. It is considered thecriteria of value in this research is not enough. It is recommended to the researchwhich relates to the ability of second semester students of senior high school in usingconjunctions or other the same level can be continued by other researchers so that theunbreakable problems can be solved in the future.

Abstract

This essay discusses about some strategies in teaching literature in English classroom, focusing on teaching poems, prose, and plays. There are some strategies can be applied by the lecturer in teaching literature in English classroom. First of all, the lecturer should prepare the material presented to the students in the class. Secondly, lecturer can set some questions. Thirdly, always ask "why". Fourth, add fuel to the fire. Fifth, add history to the material. Sixth, involve every single student. Seventh, grade the thought, not the content. Eighth, give appropriate homework. Ninth, emphasize references. Tenth, read out the work of other scholars and finally, enjoy the experience. Then some possible way and solution are suggested in teaching literature as the example as follows; first, strategies and procedures in teaching poem entitled “Richard Cory” by Edwin Arlington Robinson , second, strategies and procedures in teaching prose entitled “Sorry, wrong number”, third, strategies and procedures in teaching play entitled “Sense and Sensibility.”

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the competence of teachers teaching English in terms of competence in learning management, namely lesson planning, learning implementation, assessment of learning outcomes, and implementation of follow-up learning outcomes. In analyzing the data used inequality evaluation model. The research subjects were English teachers at the Saree State Vocational High School. The results of the study indicate that the teacher has planned an interesting, creative, innovative learning plan and is in accordance with the time allocation and according to the characteristics of the students; in the implementation of learning, English teachers have implemented effective learning in accordance with the time allocation; in assessing learning outcomes, teachers have not used the learning outcomes assessment instruments in the lesson plans; while in the follow-up of learning outcomes, teachers have not used student learning outcomes to make further lesson plans.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam belajar kosakata bahasa Inggris dan menjelaskan bagaimana menerapkan metode teka-teki kata kepada siswa dalam situasi pandemi covid 19. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan observasi dan tes. Tes digunakan sebagai instrumen utama. Dalam menganalisis data digunakan metode kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Data observasi dianalisis secara kualitatif dan data hasil tes dianalisis dengan metode kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah Siswa Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP) Kartika XIV-1 Banda Aceh. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Selama situasi pandemi COVID-19, jumlah siswa yang menghadiri pertemuan belajar sedikit berkurang. Dan penerapan Word Search Puzzle telah berhasil meningkatkan motivasi dan pemahaman siswa dalam pembelajaran Kosakata Bahasa Inggris siswa di SMP Kartika XIV-1 Banda Aceh.

Abstract

This study aimed to know the obstacles faced by the teachers while distance learning at Junior High school Banda Aceh. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. The research participants were the three English teachers. The instrument of collecting the data used in this study was an interview. The objectives of this research were to know the teachers' readiness when distance learning and to know the obstacles faced by the teachers while distance learning. The result revealed that three Englishteachers' readiness is good because their preparation when distance learning is still well. The teachers actively shared the lesson on a group in Whatsaap, ensuring students understandind. The teachers are open to the students if they do not understand the teachers available to meet them one by one. The obstacles of three English teachers are coming up from the student because the students sometimes do not have a mobile phone to study or there is no quota, the students often forget their class, so they miss the lesson and the teachers are questions themselves whether the lesson is accepted well of the students or not. However, the teachers tried their best to ensure the teaching and learning process is run well.

Abstract

The aim of the research to find out if the use of Mediated Instruction of Text (MIT) strategy in reading skill can improve the eight grade students’ ability of SMP Negeri 13 Banda Aceh in mastering reading skill. This research is conducted by using pre-experiment with one class; pre-test and post-test design.  The population of this research is the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 13 Banda Aceh.  The total population of this study is 121 students who are composed of five classes; VIII1, VIII2, VIII3, and VIII4. Every class consists of about 30 students. Since the population was rather big thus writer takes  sample for this study. The sample of this research was class VIII1 at second grade of SMP Negeri 13 Banda Aceh. The class consisted of 30 students. The researcher used purposive sampling technique in choosing sample. The researcher chooses the students of class VIII1 because the students’ ability of the class is better than the other classes.  The data are taken through test.  The data gotten are analyzed by using gain score (GS). The result of this research shows that Gain Score (GS) score is 0.24.  It means there is a difference between the students’ ability in mastering reading skill before and after they are taught by using MIT strategy and the difference is 0.24 points or 24%. Therefore, the students’ ability in mastering reading skill increases 0.24 points or 24% after they are taught by using MIT strategy. Based on the result of the study, the English teachers of SMP Negeri 13 Banda Aceh should use MIT strategy in teaching reading skill because it can increase the students' ability in mastering reading skill.Key Words: Impact, Mediated Instruction of Text Strategy, Reading Skill

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam rangka mengembangkan kemampuan berbicara siswa pada siswa kelas satu SMAN 2 Banda Aceh melalui kegiatan role play. Metodologi yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas dan subjek penelitian adalah 34 siswa kelas II SMAN 2 Banda Aceh. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi dan tes. Hasil observasi menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan role play memberikan kemungkinan untuk mengungkapkan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara dan meningkatkan komunikasi yang lebih baik. Selanjutnya, hasil pre-test tindakan menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata pre-test adalah 47,47. Hanya ada tiga siswa atau 13,04 % siswa yang mendapat nilai lulus kriteria tingkat ketuntasan minimal (KKM). Sementara itu, peneliti menemukan bahwa rata-rata hasil post-test kedua siswa adalah 69,15, juga menunjukkan bahwa dua puluh dua siswa (95,65%) yang lulus kriteria tingkat ketuntasan minimal (KKM). Dalam hal ini, skor tersebut menunjukkan keberhasilan penelitian tindakan kelas pada siswa kelas I SMAN 2 Banda Aceh.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dengan judul Pelatihan Komunikasi Interpersonal untuk Komunikasi Efektif pada Generasi Milenial. Kegiatan ini berlangsung secara online.Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk menambah dan meningkatkan pengetahuan serta kemampuan komunikasi yang efektif pada lingkungan masyarakat utamanya pada Generasi Millennial. Sasaran kegiatan ini adalah perwakilan Generasi  Millennial dari seluruh Indonesia sejumlah 138 orang peserta. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah Ceramah, Diskusi, Permainan Games serta Evaluasi terhadap efektivitas program mencakup empat level evaluasi, yaitu Reaksi ,Kognitif , Perilaku Metode evaluasi dan  Hasil dengan praktik secara langsung  dan pendampingan.Para peserta sangat antusias mengikuti kegiatan ini dan Berdasarkan hasil pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan maka diperoleh kesimpulan terdapat pengaruh dari proses pelatihan Komunikasi Interpersonal untuk Komunikasi Efektif pada Generasi milenial
