Abstract

Introduction: Prediabetes is a metabolic condition characterized by elevated blood glucose levels that do not yet meet the criteria for type 2 diabetes. Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT), which includes daily physical activities outside structured exercise, plays a crucial role in energy expenditure and glucose metabolism. Adolescents are particularly vulnerable to sedentary lifestyles, which may increase the risk of prediabetes. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between NEAT and prediabetes among adolescents at SMAN 1 Menganti, Gresik. Methods: A correlational analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving (n =101) students aged 15–18 years. NEAT was assessed using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation and daily activity questionnaires, while prediabetes status was determined via fasting blood glucose measurements. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s Rank Correlation, with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The results revealed a significant negative correlation between NEAT levels and prediabetes status r = 0.751, p = 0.009. Adolescents with lower NEAT levels had higher fasting blood glucose levels, indicating a greater risk of prediabetes. Conclusion: Enhancing NEAT through daily physical activities outside structured exercise may serve as an effective preventive strategy to reduce prediabetes risk among adolescents. School-based interventions promoting movement throughout the day are recommended to improve long-term metabolic health.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease that has a high prevalence globally and often causes serious complications such as diabetic foot ulcers. Diabetic foot ulcers are one of the leading causes of nontraumatic amputations and significantly affect the quality of life and health of diabetic patients. Treatment of diabetic foot ulcers is a challenge for healthcare because it involves various factors that hinder the healing process. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of topical propolis as an adjuvant in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers. Methods: Data were analyzed from quality studies indexed in the SCOPUS Quartil 1 database. Data visualization is done using Forest plots. Results: The results of the analysis showed that topical propolis made a significant contribution to the healing process of diabetic foot ulcers. Topical administration of propolis increases connective tissue deposits. It promotes better tissue regeneration, as well as reducing oxidative stress, which is a major contributor to the pathogenesis of diabetic foot ulcers. Conclusion: Topical propolis offers a new and promising approach to the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers. With its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties, propolis can speed up the wound healing process, improve patients' quality of life, and reduce the economic burden associated with diabetic foot ulcer treatment. Although more research is needed to understand the mechanism of action of propolis thoroughly, these results lend support to the potential of propolis as an effective adjuvant therapy in the management of this chronic disease.

Abstract

Abstract: The increasing incidence of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in Indonesia has led to various chronic complications, one of which is diabetic foot ulcers that can result in amputation if not properly managed. The elderly, as a population group experiencing a decline in physiological function, are at higher risk of developing this condition. Therefore, preventive efforts through education and comprehensive diabetes management training are essential. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of elderly individuals in managing diabetes and performing diabetic foot care independently. The program was conducted over two days, from November 13–14, 2024, at the Kalanganyar Village Hall, Sedati District, Sidoarjo Regency, East Java. The methods used included health education sessions, interactive discussions, demonstrations of diabetic foot examination and care, and diabetic foot exercise sessions. The target participants were elderly individuals registered in the Posyandu Lansia (elderly health post) group of Kalanganyar Village. The results showed an increase in participants’ understanding of diabetes definition, risk factors, complications, and proper techniques for diabetic foot care. Moreover, participants were able to demonstrate diabetic foot examination and appropriately select footwear. This activity had a positive impact on raising awareness among the elderly about diabetes management and the prevention of diabetic foot complications. It is expected that similar programs will continue with the support of healthcare professionals and local authorities to promote healthy and happy aging.

Abstract

LBP is an abbreviation for Low Back Pain, or in Indonesian known as lower back pain or lower back pain, which is a feeling of pain, soreness, or stiffness in the back area between the last rib to the buttocks, which can be caused by problems with the muscles, nerves, spine, or surrounding soft tissue. Several factors associated with the occurrence of low back pain include muscle problems, heavy activity, incorrect posture, spinal structure problems (pinched nerves, spinal stenosis, scoliosis, spondylolisthesis), arthritis, injuries, infections, tumors, kidney stones, and other medical conditions such as endometriosis and stress, triggered by risk factors such as obesity, lack of exercise, and age. Based on observations and observations in the fishing community in Gisik Cemandi Village, it was found that more than 60.7% of fishermen suffer from low back pain. Through a community service program, outreach and education about low back pain and low back pain exercises were carried out, aimed at increasing public knowledge about low back pain and low back pain exercises. The education and Low Back Pain exercises that have been carried out have had a positive impact on the health of the community in the area where previously the community did not understand how to prevent and the signs and symptoms of low back pain, as well as the movements of Low Back Pain exercises.
