Abstract

The endurance component, namely Vo2max, is the part of physical fitness that supports important conditions. In terms of physical fitness, especially endurance, there is a need to develop test equipment to support and improve the performance requiring VO2max. This research was aimed to develop an instrument prototype, namely the Modified Vo2Max Test, using Ultrasonic sensor with lamp (LED 3 x 3 12VDC) and Buzzer (Piezzo 3-12 VDC). The set of this instrument consisted of four slaves. The placement of each LED sub-device depended on the need of the user. The basic circuit included sensors, WiFi modules, RGB LEDs, and a doorbell. The function of the sensor was to detect objects in the sensor area. The RGB LEDs acted as a signal when the sensor received stimuli. In addition, this instrument was made to facilitate the user movement in adding their skills according to their blindness. The valid test results showed an (rxy) value of 0.886. Compared to the table of r = 0.282, the value of rxy was higher with a sig value of 0.000 0.6. It concludes that the modified Vo2Max test is reliable. This Vo2max Futsal Prototype product is useful for players to examine their VO2max and physical fitness.

Abstract

The low proficiency in freestyle swimming skills among beginner students aged 10–11 years at the Marlin Swimming School Club in Purwakarta Regency is attributed to a conventional, instructor-centered training approach that lacks sufficient progression and variation. This study aims to improve freestyle swimming skills through the application of a structured practice assignment method. The method used was the Kemmis and McTaggart spiral action research model, conducted over 10 sessions (8 intervention sessions) with 20 beginner students. Data collection utilized an observation sheet covering five skill aspects (body position, leg movement, arm movement, breathing, coordination) on a 1–4 scale. The results showed an average score increase from 9.00 to 15.00 (a 66.7% increase). A paired t-test confirmed a statistically significant improvement (t=11.23, df=19, p<0.001). A total of 95% of the students (19 out of 20) met the passing criteria (score ≥12). In conclusion, the structured practice assignment method is effective in improving the freestyle swimming skills of beginner students. Further research with an experimental design and a control group is recommended to generalize the results.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a machete skills learning model for Pencak Silat athletes aged 15–18 years by collecting empirical evidence regarding its outcomes. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach combined with a pre-test–post-test experimental design. Data were analyzed using an independent samples t-test with SPSS software to determine the effectiveness of the developed learning model. The effectiveness test involved 75 Pencak Silat athletes aged 15–18 years from Ciomas District, Serang Regency, Banten Province, Indonesia. The participants received the intervention over 16 training sessions using the developed machete skills learning model. Performance was assessed using a standardized machete skills test that measured the accuracy and execution of deep strikes and deep slashes. The experimental group showed an improvement in mean scores from 0.22806 on the pre-test to 0.23786 on the post-test. Similarly, the control group improved from 0.60788 to 0.65368. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups (p = 0.003, p < 0.05), indicating that the learning model produced a significantly greater improvement than conventional training methods. These findings demonstrate that the developed machete skills learning model is effective in improving the machete skills of beginner Pencak Silat athletes aged 15–18 years and can be recommended as an alternative training model for coaches and practitioners.
