Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini merupakan salah satu cara menghadapi persaingan terutama dalam bidang pendidikan dengan adanya Masyarakat Ekonomi ASEAN (MEA) di awal tahun 2016. Salah satu lembaga pendidikan yang memiliki visi untuk menyiapkan tenaga kerja dan wirausaha yang dibutuhkan dunia usaha dan industri yaitu Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK).  Keaktifan pendidik dalam menggunakan bahasa Inggris menjadi tolak ukur motivasi peserta didik. Oleh karena itu, tujuan kegiatan ini untuk memberikan pelatihan bagi para guru yang mengajar mata pelajaran non Bahasa Inggris dan staff SMK Ibu Pertiwi I Jakarta Barat akan pentingnya pengetahuan dan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris berkenaan dengan percakapan sehari-hari dan istilah-istilah dalam bidang Tata Boga. Dengan menggunakan metode bermain peran (role play) dengan tema “Daily Conversation at School” disertai dengan terjemahannya dan juga materi percakapan mengenai Tata Boga yang difokuskan kepada makanan khas dari Indonesia, Asia dan Barat serta peralatan dapur yang dilakukan dalam 3 x pertemuan (1 x 2 jam), diharapkan para guru SMK mata pelajaran non bahasa Inggris dan staff SMK Ibu Pertiwi I berperan aktif menggunakan bahasa Inggris setidaknya untuk percakapan sehari-hari (daily conversation) di lingkungan sekolah. Kata Kunci: Keterampilan Berbicara Bahasa Inggris, Metode Bermain Peran

Abstract

Language as the basic right of children is the most important thing to build their characters that required from their closest environment, family. Mother is the first person who will put and create the children's characters. The use of positive language by a mother will build on children's positive characters. Therefore, this research aims at determining the use of positive language by mothers in Majelis Taklim Baitul Hasan Jagakarsa, on children education to build their positive behavior. This research employing a cross-sectional survey method with attitudinal questionnaire of ten questions with the total respondents of 118 people. By implementing the formula of positive language, mothers will hopefully understand more the use of positive language on children education.

Abstract

In this research study, the writer would like to describe “The Meaning Analysis of “To Dianeme” in Robert Herrick's Poem (Semiotic Approach in Literature Analysis)”. Descriptive qualitative method is used by the writer for the study and also received most of the source from the internet for the related subject as references. The finding of this poem there are two meaning which can be found in “To Dianeme” such as heuristic like denotative meaning and hermeneutic like connotative meaning. As the main source of data consists of one short story which entitled “To Dianeme” in Robert Herrick's Poem and the secondary data used from reference books and internet.Keywords: Meaning, Semiotic, Literature, Heuristic, Hermeneutic.

Abstract

Translators always faced difficulties in translating. In order to manage, the translator would need to use strategies to produce effective and natural translation. In this study, the researcher was to find out the difficulties or problems and the strategies in the process of translation from English into Indonesian from the text in a novel titled Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks. The researcher was to annotate the words, phrases, clauses, and sentences that she has translated. This area above, namely annotated translation from English into Indonesian, was chosen by the researcher in order to widen her experience in translation which was in line with her study and to detect the problems emerging during the process of translation. The research result was that the translator found some difficult problems in translation such as Lexical, Grammatical, Communication and Cultural problems in translating the words, phrases, clauses and sentences. In order that the message of the SL text could be accurately translated into the acceptable TL equivalence, she did not merely or literally translate them by retaining the forms remaining the same way as the TL text. And to reach the acceptability of the TL equivalence, certain annotated procedures of translation were required.Keywords: Annotated translation, Lexical, Grammatical, Communication and Cultural problems in translating

Abstract

Dalam menerjemahkan akan terjadi penambahan atau pengurangan (berupa kata, tanda baca), sehingga hasil terjemahan tidak bisa sama persis dengan bahasa sumber. Hal ini disebabkan adanya perbedaan struktur dan aturan dari masing-masing bahasa, maka aturan dari satu bahasa belum tentu berlaku juga untuk bahasa lain sehingga terjadi pergeseran baik bentuk maupun makna. Tujuannya adalah untuk menjelaskan pergeseran bentuk dan makna yang terdapat pada lirik lagu Zain Bikha pada album The Passing Traveler dari bahasa Inggris ke bahasa Indonesia dan untuk menjelaskan jenis-jenis pergeseran bentuk dan makna yang terdapat pada lagu tersebut. Metode penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif berdasarkan pendekatan komparatif dalam membandingkan hasil terjemahan peneliti dengan teks bahasa sumber yang ditemukan. Hasilnya adalah terjadi pergeseran bentuk dan makna pada lagu Zain Bikha, pergeseran bentuk lebih dominan dari pada makna. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa 31 data mengalami pergeseran: 28 data mengalami pergeseran bentuk seperti pergeseran tataran, struktural, kelas kata, unit, serta intra-sistem, dan 3 data lainnya mengalami pergeseran makna seperti pergeseran makna spesifik ke generik atau sebaliknya dan dari sudut pandang budaya. Penelitian ini penting karena dapat membantu peneliti untuk mendeskripsikan jenis-jenis pergeseran yang ditemukan dalam lirik lagu tersebut berdasarkan teori Catford.

Abstract

Kurangnya perbendaharaan kosakata dan ketidakmampuan dalam mengucapkan suatu kata merupakan tantangan signifikan bagi siswa tunarungu, dimana keduanya menjadi elemen krusial dalam proses komunikasi. Tujuan dari Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM) dalam bidang pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah memanfaatkan musikalisasi puisi untuk meningkatkan kosakata siswa tunarungu di SLB-B Frobel Montessori yang dibantu dengan media ajar berbentuk flashcard. Metode yang digunakan berupa ceramah, demonstrasi, dan praktik serta penggunaan media ajar flashcard. Metode penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dalam bentuk Pre-Experimental Design dengan jenis One Group Pretest-Posttest. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa pengujian data melibatkan uji hipotesis telah sesuai diterapkan pada siswa tunarungu dan diharapkan dapat efektif meningkatkan kosakata mereka. Dengan demikian, program PKM pengabdian masyarakat berhasil memecahkan masalah siswa tunarungu dalam meningkatkan kosakata.

Abstract

This study analyzes Kompas.com’s news coverage of the Papua conflict and human rights issues during the 2024 Presidential Debate to examine media neutrality through Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) integrated with Teun A. Van Dijk’s model. The analysis covers three dimensions: micro (text), meso (discursive practice), and macro (social practice), using a qualitative descriptive method. Data from 21 news excerpts reveal that social and political contexts are clearly represented, focusing on the strategies of the three presidential candidates in addressing human rights and conflict issues in Papua. The findings highlight the importance of realizing the Papua-related commitments made during the debate by the elected president, given the rising trend of violence and the unresolved justice issues in the region. The study demonstrates that media coverage, even by a leading news outlet such as Kompas.com, carries the potential to influence public perception regarding sensitive political and social issues. At the micro level, the language and lexical choices in the news articles often convey subtle ideological positions, including the framing of human rights violations and conflict events, which may reflect both explicit and implicit biases. At the meso level, discursive practices, including editorial decisions, headline constructions, and sourcing patterns, contribute to the shaping of narratives, highlighting certain aspects of the candidates’ statements while minimizing others. Meanwhile, at the macro level, the broader societal and political context, including historical grievances, regional tensions, and national political dynamics, provides the backdrop against which news coverage is produced and consumed, indicating the complex interplay between
