Abstract

The difficulty of understanding the second language experienced by the learner is caused by several factors. Factors such as learning methods, second language structure, environment, and motivation learners. By nature, a person's speaking skills are strongly influenced by listening ability. This study aims to (a) determine the effect of process approaches on improving the basic speech skills of foreign speakers (b) to know the application of process approach in improving Indonesian speaking skills for foreign speakers of basic level, and (c) to know the methods and learning strategies undertaken foreign speakers of basic level in improving Indonesian speaking skills. This type of research is a classroom action research. The subjects of this study are foreign students attending regular classes of basic Indonesian language learning at UNY, UMY students, and UGM. Sources of data in this study were obtained from research subjects and resource persons. Data collection was done by interview, observation, and documentation study. The research technique used is the test technique includes pretest and posttest. The data collection tool used is an evaluation instrument. The results of this study indicate that through the process approach, Indonesian speaking skills for foreign speakers can increase. In addition, the adoption of a process approach in improving Indonesian speaking skills for foreign speakers is done by observing the types of words that are difficult to pronounce, intensive mentoring in pronunciation, modeling, and pronunciation practice. Keywords: process approach, speaking skills, foreign speakers Abstrak Kesulitan pemahaman mempelajari bahasa kedua yang dialami pembelajar disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor. Faktor tersebut seperti metode pembelajaran, struktur bahasa kedua, lingkungan, dan motivasi pembelajar. Secara alamiah, keterampilan berbicara seseorang sangat dipengaruhi oleh kemampuan menyimak. Penelitian ini bertujuan (a) mengetahui pengaruh pendekatan proses terhadap peningkatan keterampilan berbicara bahasa Indonesia penutur asing tingkat dasar (b) mengetahui penerapan pendekatan proses dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara bahasa Indonesia bagi penutur asing tingkat dasar, dan (c) mengetahui metode dan strategi belajar yang dilakukan penutur asing tingkat dasar dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara bahasa Indonesia. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa asing yang mengikuti kelas reguler pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia tingkat dasar di UNY, mahasiswa UMY, dan UGM. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini diperloleh dari subjek penelitian dan narasumber. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara, observasi, dan studi dokumentasi. Teknik penelitian yang dipakai adalah teknik tes meliputi pretest dan posttest. Alat pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah instrumen evaluasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa melalui pendekatan proses, keterampilan berbicara bahasa Indonesia bagi penutur asing dapat meningkat. Selain itu, penerapan pendekatan proses dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara bahasa Indonesia bagi penutur asing dilakukan dengan mengamati jenis kata yang sulit diucapkan, pendampingan secara intensif dalam pengucapan, pemodelan, dan praktik pengucapan secara langsung. Abstract

The role of technology media as a stimulant in the industrial era 4.0 has developed rapidly and varied to affect various aspects of life in all circles, including early childhood. One affected aspect of life is language. The influence on the linguistic aspect is felt by children, especially at an early age. This study aims to determine how the influence of digital media broadcasts on Carrie TV’s YouTube channel on language development and acquisition in early childhood. This research utilized the observation method by observing language attitudes in early childhood and recording speech in communication activities. The observation technique was carried out by recording the distribution of words uttered by early childhood. Moreover, a comparison of the spoken vocabulary was made between the children who watched the Carrie TV channel and those who did not watch it. The word distribution recorded was adjusted to the children’s vocabulary skills in general based on their language development stage. The results revealed that childhood who watched the Carrie TV channel possessed more vocabulary than those who did not watch it. The children’s vocabulary could be categorized into basic words, conjunctions, affix words, and word combinations.
