Abstract

Application of Guided Inquiry Learning Model to Improve Student Competency in Biology Learning at SMAN 2 XIII Koto Kampar. The classroom action research was motivated by the low competence of students in aspects of attitudes, knowledge and skills. The purpose of this study was to determine improving student competence of grouping plant in class X IPA 2 SMAN 2 XIII Koto Kampar through the application of guided inquiry learning model. This research was conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisting of planning, implementation, observation and reflection. This study begins with a pre cycle before the cycle I. Subjects were 26 students of SMAN 2 X IPA 2 class XIII Koto Kampar. Data obtained using the competency attitude instrument observation sheet of religious and social attitudes, including: faithful, honest, discipline, cooperation, tolerance and mutual cooperation. A knowledge data was collected with quiz and test questions at the end of the cycle.  The skills data was collected with observation sheets of practices and product. The results showed an increase in the competence of the students after the applied application of guided inquiry learning model. An increase in the average value of attitude competence of the first cycle of 3.15 and the second cycle of 3.49. The competence of knowledge showed an increase from the first cycle of students who pass as many as 22 people (84.62%) in the second cycle students who pass as many as 24 people (92.31%), while competence of skills to practice skills in the first cycle of 3.16, and the second cycle of 3.30. And then, product skills in the first cycle of 3.04 increased in the second cycle of 3.30.Keywords: Grouping Plants, Guided Inquiry, Student Competence

Abstract

This research aims to produce a valid and practical Socio-Scientific Issue (SSI) based student worksheet (LKPD) on grade VII science learning in junior high school.  There are three issues discussed, namely the issue of Unlicensed Gold Mining (PETI) in Kuansing, the issue of waste and the issue of Forest and Land Fires (KARHUTLA). The development research method uses the Plomp model which consists of the preliminary research phase, the prototyping phase and the assessment phase. In the initial investigation phase, a needs analysis is carried out to see the importance of the issues used as the basis for the development of  LKPD. The LKPD prototype manufacturing stage was designed based on SSI with validation by experts consisting of lecturers and teachers. Large group test assessment stage on 31 students to see the practicality of the prototype. LKPD validation results are very valid with an average score of 3.4, very practical with a score of 82.9% by the teacher and very practical 81.4% by students. It can be concluded that LKPD based on SSI is valid and practical to be applied in junior high school science learning.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and explore metacognitive strategies that can be integrated into electronic modules to improve Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The initial research was conducted on 49 respondents from students majoring in Biology Education. The data collection instrument used a metacognitive test with 5 indicators: 1) Design what 2) elaboration; 3) Identify 4) Implement 5) Troubleshooting. The results of the metacognitive ability test show that in indicators 1 and 5 there are 53.06% and 40.81% who have metacognitive abilities. The results of the needs analysis are used as the basis for developing electronic modules by integrating metacognitive strategies in the form of analogies, mnemonics, and discrepant events. This research is Research and Development (R&D), this research develops a metacognitive-based e-module that refers to the ADDIE model, in this paper the data obtained from research up to the development stage. The results of the validity test by the validator showed that the metacognitive-based e-module obtained a score of 3.8 with a very valid category. The resulting e-module has the potential to improve students' higher-order thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the environmental literacy profile of junior high school students in Pekanbaru, Indonesia. This study used a survey method with sampling technique by cluster random sampling. The survey was conducted by performing a Test Question and a Middle School Environment Literacy Survey (MSELS) to 372 students. The parameters of this study consisted of  ecological knowledge, cognitive skills, attitudes and behavior. The data analysis technique was in the form of descriptive analysis using the average score of achievement of each parameter. The results of this study indicate that the environmental literacy of junior high school students in the  Pekanbaru obtained an average value of 61 (with range of 100). The achievement of environmental literacy parameters for ecological knowledge, cognitive skills, attitudes and behaviors amounted to 48, 29, 73 and 71, respectively. Environmental literacy of junior high school students in Pekanbaru is included in the medium category where knowledge and attitudes contribute to environmental literacy.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of motivation to learn science in terms of the use of platforms in online learning. The research was carried out at Junior Hight School (SMP) Negeri Singingi, Kuansing Regency, Indonesia for the 2021-2022 Academic Year. This research is quantitative descriptive. The type of data obtained consists of primary data and secondary data. The instrument used to measure the level of student learning motivation is using a questionnaire. This learning motivation questionnaire was prepared with reference to the aspect of learning motivation which consists of 8 aspects. The results of learning motivation on the concentration indicator get an average of 64.56% in the medium category, the curiosity indicator on average 64.83% in the medium category, the average spirit indicator 62.14% in the medium category, the average independence indicator at 70.25% in the high category, the average readiness indicator is 77.50% in the high category, the average enthusiasm and encouragement indicator is 64.68% in the medium category, the indicator of never giving up is on average 66.67% in the medium category, and the average confidence indicator is 79.18% in the high category. The results of the study concluded that the overall student learning motivation was categorized as good.

Abstract

Water pollution from manufacturing waste and air pollution from forest and land fires are major environmental issues in the Siak district. This research aimed at gathering empirical data by implementing a real-action project based on SSCS learning to enhance sustainability awareness of Junior High School. This quasi-experiment was carried out in two groups of students in 7th grade of SMPN 1 Koto Gasib, Siak, Riau Province. The experimental class used the SSCS learning model with the ESD approach and the control class applied the scientific learning model. Indicators of sustainability awareness comprise: 1) Sustainability Practice Awareness; 2) Behavioral and Attitude Awareness; and 3) Emotional Awareness. Real-action project that is implemented by the teacher in this research is conducted to promote sustainability awareness in the form of a water purification model, planting pollution-absorbing plants, and creating Eco-brick flower pots. Data analysis uses inferential statistics, namely the T-test using SPSS-26 software. The analysis results of sustainability awareness indicate that students in the experimental class get a higher average of 76%, with the high category. Meanwhile, students in the control class get an average of 65% in the medium category. The T-test analysis of sustainability awareness gets a significance value of 0,002.  0,05, which indicates that there is a significant difference between experimental and control classes. The implementation of SSCS learning model using ESD approach can enhance the students’ sustainability awareness through environmental problem-solving activities, as well as building knowledge, behavior, and attitudes of love for the environment.

Abstract

This research was conducted for analyzing Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) of biology prospective teachers in Riau Province. The study was carried out to fulfill Indonesian Government’s policy on Indonesian Qualification Framework (IQF) 6-Level. This development research aimed to analyze, design and develop a model to enhance the competency and competitiveness of Education College graduates to meet their professional, social and industrial needs. This paper discussed a preliminary study of the developed models for strenghtening the prospective teachers from Biology Education Departement, conducted through a survey of 243 students from four different colleges of education in Riau Province. The data were collected through a test and interview. The instruments used contained seven variables of knowledge, namely Technology, Paedagogy, Content, Technological Paedagogy, Technological Content, Technological knowledge and TPACK. The instruments was improved through their validity and reliability test. The TPACK performance of Prospective Biology teachers seemed low. Based on the need analysis two products will be generated. First, a lesson design and the second was a work books. This study had an implications for increasing the competence of biology education graduates. The lesson design and competency test instruments could be used for College of Biology Education and teacher professional education in developing competency test for selection system. The TPACK workbook could be used as teacher enrichment in sustainable profession development such as classroom action research, learning innovation contest, and science teacher olympiad.

Abstract

Independence in learning is very necessary for the application of online learning. Students as learners must have Self Directed Learning. This study aims to develop independent learning resources to facilitate student learning independence. Development research using the ADDIE model is carried out until the development stage. Needs analysis is conducted on 49 Biology Education Students with data collection instruments using the SDL test consisting of 5 question indicators: 1) Identifying learning needs; 2) Set up study routines and discover concept mappings; 3) Using concept/outline mapping as a useful understanding various information; 4) Self-assessment, honing potential; 5) Can explore self-ability. The test results show that in indicator 1 there are 9 students (18.37%) and indicator 5 as many as 11 students (22.45%) who have SDL abilities. The results of the needs analysis become the basis for the development of interactive electronic books through features such as material summaries, images, animations, videos, references (links and barcodes), interactive exercises, keywords, interest facts, practice questions, formative tests, and reflections. It is hoped that this interactive e-book can increase the independence of undergraduate and PPG students in studying biotechnology material as a source of independent learning.Abstrak Kemandirian belajar sangat diperlukan dalam penerapan pembelajaran daring. Mahasiswa sebagai pembelajar harus memiliki kemandirian belajar (Self Directed Learning/SDL). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan sumber belajar mandiri untuk memfasilitasi kemandirian belajar mahasiswa. Penelitian pengembangan menggunakan model ADDIE penelitian ini dilakukan sampai tahap development. Analisis kebutuhan, dilakukan pada 49 orang Mahasiswa Pendidikan Biologi dengan instrumen pengumpulan data menggunakan tes SDL terdiri dari 5 indikator pertanyaan: 1) Mengidentifikasi kebutuhan belajar; 2) Mengatur rutinitas belajar dan menemukan pemetaan konsep; 3) Menggunakan pemetaan konsep/garis besar sebagai metode yang berguna untuk memahami berbagai informasi; 4) Menilai sendiri, merefleksikan dan mengasah potensi; 5) Bisa mengeksplor kemampuan diri. Hasil tes menunjukkan pada indikator 1 sebanyak 9 orang (18,37%) dan 5 sebanyak  11 orang  (22,45%) yang memiliki kemampuan SDL. Hasil analisis kebutuhan menjadi dasar untuk pengembangan buku elektronik interaktif melalui fitur-fitur barupa ringkasan materi, gambar, animasi, video, referensi (link dan barcode), latihan interaktif, key word, interesring fact, latihan soal, tes formatif dan refleksi. Diharapkan e-book interaktif ini dapat meningkatkan kemandirian mahasiswa S1 dan PPG dalam mempelajari materi bioteknologi sebagai sumber belajar mandiri.

Abstract

The assistance for the Guru Penggerak (Mover Teachers) Community through the open class movement based on lesson study at SMPN 23 Pekanbaru was carried out from May to mid-September 2022, involving 32 teachers who acted as model teachers and observers. This assistance is carried out based on the Lesson Study (plan-do-see) stage. Implementation of the open class movement was conducted in four subjects: Science, Mathematics, English and Islam. In the Plan stage, the core team discusses lesson design, innovation, and agrees on a schedule and division of tasks. In the Do stage (open class), the model teacher carries out learning which is attended by observers and committee representatives. During learning activities, observers observe student learning activities. The See stage (reflection), the whole teams evaluate the implemented learning. The mentoring result show that students appear to be active and enthusiastic about learning. Teachers can work with colleagues to implement classroom learning by focusing on active, creative, effective, innovative, and fun learning. This Open Class Movement will be continued in five subjects so the entire community of subject teachers can work together in the learning community to improve the quality of learning in the Independent Curriculum Implementation, especially by the Mover Teachers.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to improve student’s science literacy skills by using 5E Learning Cycle model. The treatment was conducted collaboratively for the topic ‘Structures and functions of plants’ involving Biology lectures, pre-service teachers, and the science school teachers of SMPN 21 Pekanbaru in August 2018. The focus of the observation was on science literacy and learning activities of students, both individually and in groups. Science literacy including scientific, procedural and epistemic knowledge was measured through worksheets. While the aspects of explaining scientific phenomena, evaluating and design scientific investigations, interpreting data, and the evidence were measured using an assessment sheet performance. Curiosity, scientific argumentation and environmental awareness were measured using the observation sheet. Learning activities carried out inside and outside the classroom had a positive impact on literacy skill science. The data showed the students individually or in groups could answer questions in the worksheet, more actively engaged, more enthusiastic and more curious when observing, identifying and grouping plants using real objects around school environment. Some questions arose from students when identifying corn and carrot plants about vegetative and generative structures. Overall, the implementation of 5E Learning Cycle model can improve students' scientific literacy in learning science at SMPN 21 Pekanbaru
