The purpose of this thesis is to point out the main character’s independence in Qaisra Shahraz’s The Holy Woman, and to identify measures that she has undertaken to fight for her independence in confronting the tradition in Pakistan. Using descriptive qualitative methods and feminist studies, it is learned that the main character is a common but strong woman who must serve as a “Holy Woman” and “marry” the Quran. Because of the old tradition and culture that still exist in Pakistan, the main character gradually develops her traits and becomes a dynamic character accordingly. Abstract This research discusses sexual sadism disorder as the form of the main character’s psychopathicpersonality in the novelFifty Shades Darker by E.L. James. The purpose of this research is to denote the characteristics of psychopath and to analyze the process and the cause that lead the main character to behave psychopathically. The research is conducted by means of descriptive analysis method. The result of this research shows that the main character has a psychopathic personality disorder in the form of sexual sadism disorder based on behaviors that denotes psychopathic characteristics, such as charm, egocentric, lack of remorse, lack of empathy, deceitful and manipulative, shallow emotions, impulsive, poor behavior controls, need for excitement, lack of responsibility, early behavior problems, adult antisocial behavior. The psychological trauma in his childhood and the experience of sexual intercourse with Elena in the past of the main character is the process and the cause in the formation of the main character’s sexual sadism disorder. This study examines the personality dynamics of the character, Lucas, in the novel Miracle on 5th Avenue by Sarah Morgan. The purpose of this study are: 1) Describing the character, Lucas, who experienced personality dynamics. 2) Describing the causal factors, the impact on the character and the completion of the personality dynamics of the character Lucas based on the psychoanalysis theory of Sigmund Freud. The presentation methodin this research is qualitative descriptive method, namely data analysis in the form of descriptive literature. The results of the study are described as follows: (1) Lucas is a criminal book writer whose life is suffering from being abandoned by loved ones and work pressures. (2) As a result of the causes of the conditions of his life, the personality dynamics of the character Lucas occur, starting from anxiety, life instincts (eros), and death instincts (thanatos). Anxiety comes when the anxiety and despair that are felt due to being abandoned by his beloved wife give rise to death instincts in the character Lucas to end his life. However, the presence of Eva, the character who is able to change Lucas’s life, dominated his life instincts by the id system in the form of his desire or libido towards Eva and also his efforts to survive for a better life. The topic of this research is related to the character change experienced by the main character in the novel Assassins Creed: Forsaken by Oliver Bowden. This research uses the descriptive analysis research method with the literature study technique which produces findings in the form of intrinsic elements such as characterization, plot, conflict, and setting. Extrinsic elements, namely psychological theories, through the perspective of psychoanalysis, are used to find out the factors that cause the character changes to occur in the main character. Other findings in this research also include character change caused by an event and interaction with other individuals.Keywords: Changes of Character; Main Character; Change Factor.

The research "Correlation between The Elements of Racism with Spades Card Game in the Poem by Terrance Hayes “We Should Make a Documentary about Spades” " aims to find the correlation between the Spades game and the problem of racism in the studied poetry. This research uses descriptive methods and qualitative approaches to find correlations that have been mentioned previously. This study shows in several lines, the problem of racism experienced by the black race is described by the Spades card game. This study shows that the use of the Spades card game in the poetry is closely related to slavery during colonialism and the problem of discrimination against the black race during The Great Depression. The connection between the racial issues in these two periods with the Spades card game is in the connotation of the word Spades itself which is related to slavery that occurred during the colonial period and the Spades card game which is exclusive to the black race.Keywords: Spades; Racism; Correlation; Discrimination

Abstract This research, is an analysis on the main character’s struggle to obtain her freedom based on The Underground Railroad, a novel by Colson Whitehead. The purpose of this research aims at the displaying modes of oppressions that the main character has to undergo as a dark-skinned slave secretly trying to find ways to escape. The data are analyzed with qualitative descriptive analysis method involving the intrinsic aspects and the theory of forms of oppression by Iris Young. In support of this study, library research technique is used for additional sources. The research results in the identification that the main character has to undergo fivefaces of oppression: exploitation, marginalization, powerlessness, cultural imperialsm, and violence. Eventually, it turns out that both internal and external factors have brought her a success in escaping from slavery and in winning her freedom. This study discusses about the fight against gender-based discrimination in Yale Needs Women novel by Anne Gardiner Perkins. In the novel, discrimination is derived from heteronormative attitudes in the community. Biased heteronormative opinions are widespread throughout the community. The existence of these attitudes is nothing more than a continuation of the patriarchal ideologies inherent in cultural and political systems for centuries. This research uses qualitative analysis methods and contains a number of intrinsic elements in the form of characters and characterizations, settings, and plot as well as extrinsic elements, namely the perspective of cultural studies focused on patriarchal concepts and feminism. The results of the research prove that gender discrimination can be eradicate and women should fight to get their rights back.Keywords : discrimination; patriarchal concepts; feminism.

Byronic hero is a type of Romantic Hero that was popular in the Romantic period in the 19th century. The purpose of this research is to identify Loki as a Byronic Hero in Loki: Where Mischief Lies by Mackenzi Lee. This research uses qualitative analysis methods with a structuralism approach, which focused on intrinsic elements of the novel such as character and characterization, conflicts, and symbols. By applying Michael Riffaterre’s theory of semiotics, this research describes the character traits of Byronic Hero through heuristic and hermeneutic readings on Loki’s character describes the meaning of the symbols "godseye mirror" and "norn stones" on Loki's character, and also matrices and hypograms in the novel. The results of the research prov that Loki is a Byronic Hero in Loki: Where Mischief Lies. Keywords: Byronic Hero; heuristic and hermeneutic readings; matrices; hypograms.

This research discusses the struggle of the main character to get freedom in the novel The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Daré. The objective of this research is to reveal the gender-based discrimination in the form of subordination experienced by the main character. In addition, this research also shows the main character’s efforts to terminate the subordination and free herself from it. This qualitative research uses descriptive analysis method as well as library research through feminism perspective. The research finding reveals that the main character experiences gender-based discriminations in the form of subordination but eventually succeeds in getting her freedom.Keywords: freedom, subordination, feminism, struggle, female main character.

This article is entitled The Impact of Psychological Trauma on The Life of The Main Character in The Novel Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeymanâ€. This study aims to determine the factors and impacts of psychological trauma on the life of the main character (Eleanor). The method used in this research is descriptive method and uses library research data analysis techniques by describing the intrinsic and extrinsic elements that are contained in the novel. The theory used is Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis. Psychoanalytic theory is used with the aim of knowing the personality state of the main character by looking at her past history. The results of this study show that the house fire that was deliberately carried out by her biological mother had an effect on Eleanor's personality and life.Keywords : trauma; impact of trauma; main character; psychoanalysis.
