Abstract

International schools partnering in the "Tech & Talk" program face challenges in actively using English and integrating technology into teaching. Although teachers have a basic understanding of English, they often struggle with spontaneous communication, clear instructions, and interactive discussions, which can lead to a passive learning environment. Despite having access to digital devices, many educators hesitate to use them effectively due to unfamiliarity or lack of training. Traditional teaching methods still dominate, limiting the potential of technology to create engaging and student-centered learning experiences. The "Tech & Talk" program aims to address these issues through practical workshops, increase teachers' confidence in using English for classroom interactions, and encourage them with practical digital teaching strategies. By enhancing language skills and technological proficiency, the program aims to accelerate a more dynamic and efficient learning environment.

Abstract

This community service project investigates the transformative potential of Pixton, a digital comic creation tool, in fostering creative writing skills within a community setting. The initiative seeks to empower individuals through engaging workshops that leverage Pixton as a means to unlock and express creativity. Utilizing a participatory action research approach, the project assesses both the quantitative progress in creative writing proficiency and the qualitative impact on participants' engagement and self-expression. The workshops are designed to provide a supportive space for community members to explore their narrative voices using Pixton, encouraging collaborative storytelling. Through a synthesis of pre and post-assessment data, reflective journals, and participant interviews, the project aims to contribute valuable insights into the role of digital tools in community-based creative initiatives, ultimately fostering a sense of empowerment, expression, and community cohesion.

Abstract

This study examines students' perspectives on plagiarism, academic integrity, and AI-generated plagiarism in the context of AI-assisted academic dishonesty. The use of semi-structured interviews with five university students, who were caught employing AI tools in their study, helps to clarify how tech advancements and academic pressures get intertwined in students' lives for making decisions and giving their ethical opinions. The results indicate that students, in general, have a clear line between AI-produced text and conventional plagiarism, regarding AI as a positive facilitator and not a negative source of misconduct. Their view of academic honesty is shaped by the amount of work, the fear of not performing well, and the unclear rules from the university concerning the use of AI that is acceptable. The same students also mentioned that the AI's power of convenience, fast processing, and personal contact made the misuse of it very easy and also helped to gain acceptance of it among friends. Eventually, the study assert that the problem of AI-assisted dishonesty can only be solved through a combination of institutions' clearer policies, institutions' supportive learning environments, and teachers' practices that responsible and ethically integrate AI in higher learning.

Abstract

The world of education continues to advance in line with this increasingly sophisticated era. Technology has now spread into various fields of learning, including learning to write. Various applications and tools have been created to support writing skills. Among them are Chat GPT and Grammarly, which are available as AWE tools and have been widely used by students as a medium to support writing. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore students' views on the use of AWE in supporting writing skills. A number of previous studies have analyzed the use of AWE in writing skills, but few have tested it using a phenomenological approach, and most were conducted outside Indonesia, where students have different experiences, needs, and backgrounds. This study addresses this gap by involving eight English Education students from Mercu Buana University in Yogyakarta. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, in which data is obtained through a semi-structured interview process with participants focusing on seven aspects, namely usage, usefulness, empowerment, critical thinking, evaluation, challenges, satisfaction, and recommendations. Recent findings show a positive view of the use of AWE in writing skills. Students view AWE as quite useful and able to increase confidence and critical thinking. However, there are several limitations to this tool, so its use is considered less than optimal.

Abstract

Siswa memerlukan media pembelajaran yang dapat membantu siswa mengurangi kecemasan matematika dan meningkatkan efikasi diri. Tujuan penelitian yaitu mengembangkan modul untuk mengurangi kecemasan matematika dan meningkatkan efikasi diri siswa pada materi peluang. Penelitian Research and Development ini menggunakan model ADDIE dengan lima tahap pengembangan yaitu analisis, desain, pengembangan, implementasi, dan evaluasi. Sumber data dan subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah ahli materi, ahli media, guru, dan 1328 siswa dari 24 SMP di Kota Yogyakarta. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu wawancara, observasi, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), dan angket. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa produk yang dikembangkan yaitu modul materi peluang untuk mengurangi kecemasan matematis dan meningkatkan efikasi diri siswa layak digunakan dalam pembelajaran matematika. Pengambilan keputusan kelayakan produk didasarkan pada hasil analisis penilaian dari validator, ahli materi, dan ahli media yang menunjukkan bahwa modul sangat valid dan berpeluang menurunkan kecemasan matematis dan meningkatkan efikasi diri siswa.Students need learning media that can help students reduce mathematics anxiety and increase self-efficacy. The aim of the research is to develop a module to reduce mathematics anxiety and increase students' self-efficacy in opportunity material. This Research and Development research uses the ADDIE model with five development stages, namely analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. The data sources and subjects in this research were material experts, media experts, teachers, and 1328 students from 24 junior high schools in Yogyakarta City. The data collection techniques used were interviews, observation, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), and questionnaires. The results show that the product developed, namely the opportunity material module to reduce mathematical anxiety and increase students' self-efficacy, is suitable for use in mathematics learning. Decision making on product feasibility is based on the results of assessment analysis from validators, material experts and media experts which show that the module is very valid and has the opportunity to reduce mathematical anxiety and increase student self-efficacy.
