Abstract

This research focuses on culture shock by Thailand students in Ponorogo with two aims: (1) to elaborate on the culture shock by Thailand students in Ponorogo. (2) to investigate the way of Thailand students in Ponorogo adjust their problem with Indonesian culture. This research used qualitative design, while the data were displayed in the forms of descriptive. The researcher took four Thailand students who are studying in Ponorogo. There are one student from Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo (UMPO), two students from University Darussalam Gontor (UNIDA), and one student from Institute Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN).  The researcher used interview and documentation as the instruments for collecting the data. The results showed that there were two problems on culture shock by Thai students in Ponorogo. The problems were: the problems about the cultural difference such as language, social manner, and religious life and the problems about life change such as food, transportation and emotion. Meanwhile, the way to adjust the culture shock in Poronogo by Thai students were: learnt and understand more about host culture, accepted the cultural difference between host culture and their culture, participated in activities related with cultural difference such as summer camp. It helped them to fast adaptation in culture and language, and joined BIPA program (Bahasa Indonesia untuk Penutur Asing). That made them fast adaptation in Indonesia language and also fast adaptation with cultural difference.Keywords: Culture, Thai Culture, Indonesian Culture, Culture Shock

Abstract

2013 Curriculum considered as new curriculum in Indonesia. In this curriculum, students demanded to be active and creative during learning process. Thus, teacher also needs to be creative in arranging the teaching and learning process. This research aims at finding out (1) the teachers’ implementation of 2012 curriculum in English teaching process; (2) the teachers’ and students roles in English teaching and learning; and (3) the impact of 2013 curriculum in English teaching and learning. This research design was descriptive qualitative research. The researcher used qualitative observation and interview as the data collection technique. The subject were three English teachers of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo. The activity in analyzing data were reduction, display, and conclusion drawing or verification. The findings of the research showed that the implementation of 2013 curriculum in English teaching process did not completely successful. It showed from the data findings, there were positive and negative impact of the 2013 curriculum implementation in English teaching process at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo. The creativity of English teacher in arranging learning activities will create a good learning situation and increase the students understanding towards the learning material.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out: (1) the difficulties that faced by Visually Impaired Students (2) the learning style that used by Visually Impaired Students (3) the learning strategiess that used by Visually Impaired Students. The type of research is descriptive qualitative research in the form of case study.. There are three visually impaired students, teacher, orphanage caregiver involved in this research. In this research, the researcher used observation, questionnaire and interview for instrument. Further the data analysis used Miles and Huberman model with the steps as following: data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The result shows that the difficulties appeared because there were in inclusive class. Almost of them felt difficult when the learning process was seeing the media such as presentation or watching a visual picture or videos. To overcome it they had different strategies.. The researcher classified that One students had memory strategies, compensation strategies and social strategies. One student used affective strategies. One student used metacognitive strategies. Based on the learning style, the most of visually impaired students were auditory learners. It can seen from all of Visually Impaired Students said that it more easier when listening to the teachers but if they didn’t understand they wrote the material first on the notebook. So, the Visually Impaired Student easier to understand the material that given by the teacher through listening. Visually Impaired Student at Charitable Institution ‘AisyiyahPonorogo didn’t have visual learning style because they were totally blind.

Abstract

The aims of this research were identify: 1) The types of code switching, 2) Find out the factors influence the teachers to switch English into Indonesian or the opposite, 3) Analyze the impact of teacher’s code switching for the students. This research was held on SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo. The research design was qualitative research especially case study. Research used observation and interview as the data collection technique in this research. To analyze the data the writer transcribing interviewing, scanning material, typing up field notes, coding process, making qualitative narrative, and making interpretation the data. Based on finding, the types of code switching which was used by English teacher at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo include tag code switching, inter sentential code switching, and intra sentential code switching with different quantities. The factor influence teachers to conducted switch English to Indonesian such as the students understanding was the big factor and the students characteristic were different, they had not same ability in English. Finally, the researcher proposed suggestion to the teachers to maintain using code switching during teaching and learning English in classroom, but continue to prioritize English as the primary. They could switch Bahasa Indonesia, but when used for certain purposes only.

Abstract

The researcher encountered several problems in understanding writing in SMPN 1 Siman. Such as, students think that writing is a boring activity. The students feel that English is difficult to learn. The objective of this research study is to find out the implementation of task-based language teaching strategies (TBLT) to enhance writing achievement at SMPN 1 Siman in the academic year of 2019/2020. The subject of this research was the students of eighth grade of SMPN 1 Siman in academic year of 2019/2020, which is consisted 24 students. This classroom action research was conducted in two cycles. The researcher used three research instruments. They were observation checklist, questionnaire, and test.Based on the result of this research, the implementation of TBLT to enhance students’ writing achievement at SMPN 1 Siman. The result of observation checklist showed that the students became active during teaching learning process. It was seen from the result of observation checklist cycle 1 was 72% in cycle 2 was 80%. The result of questionnaire showed that the students more get motivation with this strategy. It was seen from the resullt in cycle 1 was 66,7% and the cycle 22 was 75,1%. The test in cycle 1 showed that there were 68.8% who got low score under basic minimum standard was 75. Then in cycle 2, who reached the minimum score based from KKM was 77,8% the researcher conclude that the result from observation, questionnaiire, and thest in cycle 2 is better than cycle 1. It meant that the study had been succesful by using TBLT  strategy.Finnaly, the researcher give suggestion for English teachers, students, and further researcher can use TBLT (task-based language teaching) strategy as alternative strategy in teaching writing. The next researcher can develop this strategy by using various media to get the better result in teaching learning process.  Key Word: TBLT strategy, Writing
