Abstract

Abstract

AbstractSolving non-linear equations is not always an easy thing to do. Mathematical problems related to non-linear equations can be solved by using numerical methods, and this involves the use of computers. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the numerical method was carried out online without using campus facilities such as computer laboratories equipped with tools and software. Therefore, this study aims to create a template for executing numerical methods with algorithms in Microsoft Excel to find solutions to nonlinear equations. This is because Excel is an application that is user-friendly and accessible nowadays, even on smartphones. Through this template, students become more aware of the use of formulas in excel and better master the algorithms of numerical methods. This study applies a development research model. The result of this study is a template for executing numerical method algorithms in Ms. Excel, especially for finding solutions to equations with one variable. In addition, students gain a very good understanding of numerical method algorithms as well as expertise in using Microsoft Excel. Thus, numerical methods can also be executed on applications that are very easily accessible to the academic community, namely Microsoft Excel. All students admitted that the application of numerical methods with algorithms in Microsoft Excel is necessary.

Abstract

Triangulation is the process of breaking down an n-sided polygon into triangles and it is necessary in deciding the optimal count and the position of guards in the Art Gallery Problem (AGP) There is a theoretical limit that has been established which states that the number of required guards needed to keep an eye on such a polygon is ⌊n/3⌋ and this research considers this as the limit. Among various triangulation methods, Ear Clipping and Minimum Weight are two primary approaches frequently used to achieve optimal solutions. Nonetheless, its comparison with other methods, more particularly the amount of guards required for the maximum theoretical figure, is still a gap in literature. The aim of this research is to create an AGP simulation program and test it against the theoretical upper bound, determining the number of guards required. 228 simple polygons with vertices varying between 10 and 110 were utilized in this research. The polygons were classified into three groups based on the ratio of convex to concave vertices: less concave vertices, equal amount of concave and convex vertices and vice versa. Result study shows that the Ear Clipping method is significantly superior to Minimum Weight in reducing guard requirements. Practically speaking, these advancements are important for the design of engineering systems such as surveillance systems and the surveillance of public spaces. In the context of building security system design and monitoring of large areas, these conclusions are of utmost importance.

Abstract

Developing a secure and reliable remote electronic voting (e-voting) application presents critical challenges, particularly in ensuring system integrity, security, and user trust. This study focuses on designing and evaluating an e-voting system for student leader elections, with the objective of addressing the key factors that influence voter confidence. The development process followed structured phases: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Key concerns, such as transparency, voter anonymity, prevention of duplicate voting (singularity), and result integrity, were addressed. A survey was conducted with 1,000 randomly selected students to assess their primary concerns and level of trust in the system. Results indicate that transparency, singularity, integrity, and anonymity are the most crucial requirements for an e-voting system. To enhance trust, efforts were made from the design phase through socialization, including educational campaigns, application demonstrations, and user training. Rigorous testing was conducted by internal developers and external stakeholders, followed by a public trial. Out of 3,527 survey respondents, 68.04% expressed trust in the application, deeming it “feasible” for adoption. However, areas such as transparency and feedback mechanisms require further improvement to fully address user concerns. This study contributes to the e-voting field by underscoring the importance of user involvement and extensive testing in developing a trustworthy system for student elections.
