Abstract

This study aims to determine the ability of solving mathematical problems of junior high school students in Kabupatan West Bandung with indicators of students' mathematical problem solving abilities that are used to identify known elements, questioned and adequacy of elements, selecting and implementing strategies to solve mathematical problems, interpret the results according to the initial problem , making a mathematical model of a situation or everyday problem, using mathematics meaningfully. This research was conducted to 31 students in one of Junior High School in Ngamprah Village, West Bandung Regency using qualitative descriptive method. Instruments used in the form of 5 items about students' mathematical problem solving abilities on the material quadrilateral and triangle with interviews to students. The conclusion of this research is the ability of mathematical problem solving of junior high school students in Ngamprah Village is still low.

Abstract

The ability of mathematical communication is contained in the curriculum and objectives of mathematics learning. Through mathematical communication is expected to improve students abilities of mathematical concepts. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of mathematical communication ability of junior high school students on the material system of two linear equations. This research is a descriptive research with qualitative approach. The study time was held in the even semester of the academic year 2017/2018. The subjects of the study were students of SMP class VIII in Cimahi city as many as 33 students. Data collection methods used are test methods, observation and documentation. Based on the results of data analysis showed the students mathematical communication ability of SMP on linear equation system two variables were obtained: (1) students ability in reflecting real objects, drawings and diagrams into mathematics idea with percentage of 81,08%; (2) students ability to explain ideas, situations and mathematical relations both orally and in writing using real objects, images, graphs and algebraic expressions with percentage of 33,33%; (3) the ability of students to declare daily events in language or mathematical symbols or to construct an event mathematical model of 18.18%; (4) students ability in explaining and making math questions studied for 7.58% and (5) students ability in making conjectures, formulating arguments, formulating definitions and generalizations of 7.58%.

Abstract

Keterampilan membaca pemahaman peserta didik tergolong cukup rendah. Hasil pelaksanaan pratindakan memperlihatkan bahwa nilai rata-rata membaca pemahaman peserta didik yakni 74,3% dan sebanyak 55% tuntas serta 45% belum tuntas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memaparkan peningkatan keterampilan terkait membaca pemahaman suatu teks informasi pada peserta didik di kelas III jenjang sekolah dasar melalui pengaplikasian model Problem Based Learning. Penelitian tindakan kelas dengan menggunakan model Kemmis dan M.C Taggart dipilih sebagai metode penelitian. Subjek penelitian ini ialah peserta didik kelas III di SDN Baros Mandiri I. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan tes keterampilan membaca pemahaman teks informasi, observasi, wawancara, dan angket. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan: 1) Siklus I mencapai ketuntasan sebesar 76% atau sekitar 22 peserta didik telah mencapai KKM dan 24% belum tuntas atau sekitar 7 peserta didik belum mencapai KKM; dan 2) Siklus II mencapai ketuntasan sebesar 93% atau sekitar 27 peserta didik telah mencapai KKM dan 7% belum tuntas atau sekitar 2 peserta didik belum mencapai KKM. Dapat diambil simpulan bahwa implementasi dari model Problem Based Learning mampu meningkatkan keterampilan membaca pemahaman teks informasi pada peserta didik kelas III jenjang sekolah dasar.

Abstract

The development of a problem-based learning model is urgent so that learning can be better tailored to children’s characteristics, with the hope that children will gain good conceptual and affective understanding. Teachers still face several challenges when applying the PBL model. The purpose of this study is to examine the development process and feasibility of a problem-based learning model assisted by interactive PowerPoint and Quizizz to enhance students’ conceptual understanding of IPAS and their self-confidence, as well as to assess the effectiveness of this model and these media in improving students’ understanding and self-confidence in IPAS lessons. This study utilized the R&D method. The research subjects were third-grade elementary school students in three different classes for the pilot test. Data were collected through observation, tests, questionnaires, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using Excel for the validation of observation results and questionnaires, SPSS for test questions and questionnaires, and Miles & Huberman for observational data. The research results showed that the average score on the validation test of the teaching materials was categorized as very good. Regarding the test results on conceptual understanding, there was an increase from an average of 72.81 before the intervention to 83.53 afterward. The average score for students’ self-confidence was 68.00 before the intervention and increased to 85.61 afterward. During the dissemination session, the researchers shared their findings with fellow teachers and recommended the use of the developed model and media in instruction, citing several benefits and noting that the approach aligns with the characteristics of elementary school students; it appears that teachers are eager to try applying it.
