Abstract

Traditional Islamic boarding schools or Pesantren in Indonesia are experiencing rapid development. To assist their educational funding, Islamic boarding schools create a business unit in the form of a cooperative called kopontren (hereinafter referred to as Islamic business unit). This study aims to discover what business model should be applied in Islamic boarding schools and what factors lead to the success of Islamic boarding school’s businesses. The case study was carried out by analyzing statistical data on Islamic boarding schools in West Java and conducting in-depth interviews with business actors from six Islamic boarding schools. In addition, the researchers directly observed the schools to determine the business activities and donations that exist. Validation was done by triangulating the data from business actors and academicians who were directly or indirectly involved in the Islamic boarding schools’ businesses. To strengthen the findings, the researchers analyzed the data using qualitative data analysis software called NVivo. The theory of business model, business unit, and Islamic boarding school was used as the basis of this research. This study discovers the efforts made by Islamic boarding schools in meeting their daily operational needs by applying the sharia business model. Through the Islamic business unit, the schools try to take advantage of the existing potential in their environment, participate in training and mentoring programs from the government, and establish cooperation with their networks.

Abstract

Abstract

Digital transformation has become an important strategy for micro and small enterprises (MSEs) to increase competitiveness in the digital economy era. However, many micro business actors still face various challenges in adopting digital technology, especially related to digital literacy, limited resources, and understanding of digital marketing strategies. This study aims to analyze the digital transformation process in micro and small businesses in the street food sector in Bandung, a city known as one of Indonesia's culinary destinations with high street food diversity. This study uses a qualitative case study approach. The research data were obtained from students' field assignments in the digital entrepreneurship course, in which students conducted observations and semi-structured interviews with micro-business actors to identify problems related to digital business transformation. The data were analyzed using a thematic analysis to identify problem patterns and digital transformation strategies that emerged from various micro-business cases. The study's results show that most business actors still rely on traditional methods such as word-of-mouth promotion and direct sales. Some businesses have begun adopting digital technologies such as social media, instant messaging, and digital payments, but their use remains partial and has not been integrated into a comprehensive business strategy. This study also found that student involvement through project-based learning can act as a catalyst in digitizing micro businesses. This study contributes to the literature on digital transformation in micro enterprises by highlighting the importance of digital literacy, digital marketing strategies, and collaboration between universities and local business actors in supporting the business transformation process towards a digital ecosystem.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines creative entrepreneurship practices among undergraduate students and investigates how university support is perceived in relation to the continuity of campus-based creative ventures. Adopting a descriptive-exploratory design, data were collected through online questionnaires from 150 respondents comprising 120 undergraduate student creativepreneurs and 30 institutional stakeholders, including lecturers, mentors, and entrepreneurship program managers. The findings indicate that student creativepreneurship is characterized by the use of individual creativity, digital literacy, social media, and digital platforms in initiating and operating creative ventures. At the same time, respondents reported recurring challenges related to academic pressure, time management, managerial capability, financial limitations, and uneven institutional support. Comparison of student and stakeholder perspectives further highlights a gap between the formal availability of university entrepreneurship support and how such support is experienced in terms of relevance, continuity, coordination, and integration with academic structures. Rather than establishing causal relationships, the study identifies descriptive patterns that position campus-based creativepreneurship as a multilevel process involving individual capabilities, peer-community dynamics, and institutional support mechanisms. The study contributes to the Discussion on student entrepreneurship in higher education by emphasizing the importance of integrated academic support, continuous mentoring, and institutional coordination in supporting the continuity of student-led creative ventures.
